Here's what he said:

BTW, it was Spitball that had referenced the problems with 2 other managers. SBF, never did.

Can I get a GOTCHA from my fans!! Maybe from my biggest fan, Dutchy?

Check out page 2. Fred brought it up first.

This is typical. Don't let the facts get in the way of your ego. I go back to ignoring you.

Push WMB to be the best he could be? That's insane!!!!!! Having Rolen looking over Middlebrooks' shoulder would do nothing but let Will play nervous for fear that Farrell might be tempted to not to let well enough alone. Besides, I know of Rolen's past problems with managers. He couldn't get along with Larry Bowa because he was too tough, he couldn't get along with La Russa for the same reason. He criticized both managers on his way out. We don't want him, we don't need him to create any problems for Middlebrooks or give Farrell any wierd ideas. Let Rolen go elsewhere.

It is very similar to the Youkilis/Middlebrooks situation. Frazier played his way into the starting job when Rolen was injured.

It was about the Reds' budget and the inexpensive Frazier's production...and not about the tension between Baker and Rolen.

He never said that there was tension. He just said that he didn't want him back.

Here's the fact:

No word from Rolen yet, Baker ready to move on?

Jan 13, 2013

By Zach Links [January 12 at 2:35pm CST]

As Ben Nicholson-Smith wrote this week, Reds GM Walt Jocketty knows the value of adapting on the go. Jocketty had some curveballs thrown his way this winter but was able to adjust and put together a solid lineup in Cincinnati. “You have to have a plan, an initial plan, and you have to adapt,” said Jocketty. “We had several things planned last winter but you’ll have more than one plan — put it that way. You just have a basic plan and you work your way through it.” Here’s a few more notes on the Reds, courtesy of John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

  • Scott Rolen hasn’t told the club whether he wants to play or retire, but manager Dusty Baker sounds prepared to move on without the veteran. “It’s getting late,” Baker said. “Life goes on and business goes on. Since we signed [Jack] Hannahan, it’s getting crowded. Plus, (Todd) Frazier deserves a chance to play,” said the skipper.

Is it subject to interpretation? Sure, but the title certainly asked the right question.

Which has nothing to do with what SBF claimed or any rebuttals made against his claim.

There was a specific claim made. That specific claim was called out. It has never been backed up in any meaningful way, and SBF, instead of either backing up his speculation or admitting that he was just speculating, has decided to lash out like a petulant 4 year old. There's a pretty good example of same in the prior page.

If a man doesn't have the cojones to admit when he's overstated himself, he isn't much of a man. We all do it, but SBF for some reason needs to insist his **** don't stink and lash out like a little kid when people point out that yes, it in fact does.

You're just throwing out nonsense to run interference for your bud. Your argument has no place here and is in fact completely irrelevant to any other point discussed here. This discussion has nothing to do with you in any way whatsoever. Go away. Please.

Maybe you ought to take a hiatus after coming out with a thread that was absolutely idiotic in its idea. Bring Rolen in to push Middlebrooks????? I can see you haven't played much baseball or ever did any kind of coaching because if you had you would know that you never bring a veteran used to starting to back up a young promsing player who is counted on to perform......and that's what you suggested. You have right to suggest that and I have right to say it was a dumb idea.

Moreover, you still insist that I said there was tension between Rolen and Baker and if you still hold to that you obviously need more bran in your diet. Rolen DID have problems with his managers in Philly and St. Louis and those are facts. The Jan. 8 and 13 articles state that Baker was moving on and no longer had a need for Rolen----and if he really had he could have asked Jocketty to sign the guy back up. He didn't and now he is gone from the Reds-----AND WE DON'T NEED HIM!!!!!!!

You are wrong you stupid loser. He never asserted that there was friction between Baker and Rolen. He simply said that he didn't think Baker wanted him back. The article does give the strong impression that Baker was willing to move forward without Rolen and with Frazier. Increase your meds so you can read better.

Stupid loser... Funny how you are always so quick to make things personal. Then when someone calls you a name you go running to a mod... Laughable...

I totally agree, Dojji. It is not about discussing baseball. It is about them avoiding being wrong.

Actually, I can accept Fred's rants. He is over the top, but I can accept him. A.700 can never admit he is wrong, even when he is totally exposed. It is not in his character. At that point, he accuses the poster of being Dutchy. He is like a troll...only he is one of us...I guess.

I just worry they have driven off some great posters. Where is User Name? and example1 and others?

I made no assertion about the situation, so how could I be wrong? I should admit being wrong about what in this situation? Be specific.

I have to admit that I am a little surprised at the way Rolen has gone with this. He is 37....his best years are surely behind him. I could have read it wrong but it sounded like he would take the money being offered at least for a year but would not accept the backup role. That sounds like he thinks he should be in the everyday lineup somewhere or that he could be. Maybe he thinks he can get one last bite of the apple if somebody would just give him one. That seems unlikely at this point.

If Rolen is suddenly interested in playing again Jung, that's fine with me as long as it is NOT with the Red Sox. Anyone on this board who thinks he would settle for a backup role on our team is simply out of his damn mind (no name mentioned). A player who has been a regular, and in his case, a star for much of his career, would rarely be content with being a substitute. What this thread has done is start a near war between posters. Dupree suggested that we end this topic once and for all and if all agree I would be more than willing to cooperate.

Spitball, my rant came this time when Dojii kept saying that I said there was tension between Rolen and Baker. I never said that----and the guy kept saying that I did. 700 jumped in only when camp follower mvp jumped in and carried the wood and water for Dojii. Of course, keep in mind that mvp hasn't agreed with one thing I have ever posted on this board---and you can look that up if you doubt it.

As for driving off some posters, t hey went on their own Ex1 was a strong personality and he most likely had reasons for leaving and it wouldn't surprise me if he returns when the season begins. As for User, wasn't he knee deep in his studies? Why not use your influence with Doj to stop this damn thread. It has caused nothing but trouble between a lot of us, and in my opinion was a ridiculous to post in the first place. We cannot afford to block our young players by threatening them with over the hill veterans. Middlebrooks must play, when Bradley is ready he must play, when Brentz is ready he must play, when Swihart is ready he must play, and if and when DeLaRosa, Barnes and the young pitchers are ready they must be allowed to take their turns. The time is fast approaching when he have to turn the page and put some new blood on the field. Of course, that is just my opinion on the matter, but maybe you might agree with that. I know mvp won't.

Seeing you got very neatly made a fool of, not surprising that you'd be more than willing to get in one last word, then hope the thread dies. Very much within my measure of you.

As for the bolded, I don't know about specifically Rolen's case, and neither do you, but your statement is spectacularly wrong in many instances. Not all, but a significant number, of veterans are quite willing to put themselves on a big league bench in the right situation. Especially if it's the best way to make sure they're still in the big leagues at all. If Rolen is one of those, then bringing him to this team very likely makes it better.

Quite bluntly, I also want insurance against another Middlebrooks injury, that has a better chance to be a productive 3B than Brock Holt. Right now that guy is nowhere on our roster. I want that fixed. That's more important in my mind than either an LHH platoon partner for Gomes or massaging WIll Middlebrooks' poow widdle feewings and making sure he knows he's the 3B.

And if there's a park anywhere in the world that might be able to bring the righthanded Rolen back for one last year of productivity, it's Fenway.

There's a certain natural logic to the move that intrigues me, whether it happens or not, and whether you are paranoid about Middlebrooks losing playing time or not.

Start a thread when Rolen signs with us. Otherwise, drop it. BTW, he ain't coming to Fenway.

Could a mod please lock this thread? Nothing more is going to happen here aside from a few spiteful efforts to get in the last word. Might as well just let Yeszir have it.

I agree with that---but here's my question about another thread. Think some of the posters are going to get pissed off about us talking about the Civil War? As soon as I hear something about it I just can't help myself and go off the deep end, just like I do the Red Sox. Still, it's great someone else is on to it as I am. I wish a few others would climb aboard that subject, though I think many of us would have to go the PM route just in case someone gets ticked as us being off topic. What do you think?

Make it it's own thread (in the correct forum) and nobody would care.
