Seattle is rumored to be preparing a 4yr $100 mil extension for him, making him the highest paid pitcher by AAV in history

If I was Felix, I'd hold out for a 7 year deal of $150M.

Agreed a 7 year deal is what he needs to hold out on. Also if the deal dont get done and he shows more no intention to sign an extension to trade him for a lot of prospects. But King Felix has a 10 team no trade clause. Does anyone know what those teams are?

No way in hell does he accept that deal. Why accept a deal of half his value to stay with a team that hasn't been to the playoffs in ten years?

6/150 is where any serious discussions with King Felix will start.

I read he wants something longer. He would be a fool to only take a 4 year deal.

Why do big names players put big market teams on their no trade clause teams?

Usually to give them leverage over the team on the list. Big market teams are have the means to sweeten the pot either with an extension or a flat bonus for waiving the clause. I don't remember who it was but I remember someone getting like 2M to waive theirs.

Well, the offer is a 4 year extension on top of the 2 years he has left on his current deal. So it does offer a lot of security. As great as he is, something could go wrong the next 2 years.

Nonetheless I imagine he'll hold out for and probably get more.

He says he wants to be a Mariner for life and they hold the next 2 yrs on him regardless at $39 mil. That would give him 6 yrs and $139 mil to go on his deal. That's about as good as you can expect. And if he blows out his arm in the next 2 yrs, he is still guaranteed to have the highest AAV among pitchers as of right now. He's got a lot of innings on a young arm and his velo has dropped a bit.

I believe it is so they can renegotiate or demand monetary compensation.

By the time Felix is available from the Mariners his arm will be shot.
He already has some miles on his arm. After another 420 innings over 2 years, you would have to wonder how many years he has left at the top of his game.

Old(ish?) news, but it looks like Farrell met with Bard, and he's found his arm slot again and gotten his power back.

If he comes back as the old Daniel Bard, which is entirely possible, and sounds almost like it's probable from the early reports, this bullpen will be beyond filthy.

Jeez, the way these articles mention it it's like it took 10 minutes and then it was all set. I wonder how much truth there is to this? Even though it didn't take 10 minutes (and it talk a decent chunk of the offseason) it still sort of feels like someone with the team should have identified and fixed this over the Summer when it was happening....what I thought the goal of sending him to AAA was in the first place. I suppose the most important part of this is seeing if any of it ends up ringing true.

Sometimes you just need to get away from the game and clear your mind, hit the "reset" button to be cliche.

By the time everything had piled on top of him last year he was probably so buried with thinking about every mechanical issue that he couldn't pitch.

The thing about Bard - he's a thrower, he's not a pitcher. Last year, we tried to make him into a pitcher. We need to just let him go out there and throw.

If MLB on the whole has taught us anything it's to expect the unexpected.

Who saw Ellsbury's 2011 coming? Answer: Nobody.

If I had to make predictions it would be 88 wins, and a spot in the wild card play in game.

1) Will Middlebrooks - .285, 36 HR, 120 RBI. Finishes in the Top 10 in AL MVP voting. Makes the All-Star team as a STARTER.

2) David Ortiz - Less than 250 AB.

3) Jon Lester - Solid, but not back to the Cy Young candidate everyone hopes for. 15-10, 3.71 ERA.

4) Clay Buchholz - Good when he's healthy, but the status quo holds. Makes 23 starts, 9-7, 4.10 ERA.

5) Felix Doubront - 16 wins, ERA sub 3.50, 8+ K/9

6) Rubby De La Rosa - Makes 10 starts, and dazzles. 7-1, 2.56 ERA.

7) John Lackey is traded at the trading deadline for pennies on the dollar.

8) Daniel Nava fills in all around the OF, at DH, and even at 1B and gets 450 AB - .291, 15 HR, 70 RBI.

9) Daniel Bard goes the way of Rick Ankiel, spends most of '13 at AAA.

I guess it took Farrell to discover Bard had lost his arm slot. How many pitching coaches did they pay last year?

One inning pitchers are basically throwers--flame throwers.

Regardless of whether they're flame throwers or just 92-94 mph "throwers", the fact remains he got away from what he was good at and tried to change too many things.

The fact that his arm slot is back in the right slot is a huge step in the right direction. I strongly believe he'll be back to his pre-2012 self going into 2013.

This team is going to win a lot of games by holding leads from the 7th through the 9th innings.

Here's a prediction:

During Spring Training, Rubby De La Rosa looks like an absolute monster and people fall in love with him.

I already liked him a lot, I'm getting a nice window seat on the wagon early.

His career got sidetracked by a green GM who didn't know what he was doing. One of the dangers of the Peter Principle.
