I am along the same lines Dojji. You have to be able to treat him like an aging veteran and not a guy you have to throw out there at 3rd on a nightly basis. The sox had Ortiz and couldnt move Youk to DH. The beauty of the Yankee lineup is that we dont have an exclusive DH, so Youk can probably count on spending 60+ games or so as a part time player. I expect our DH spot to be a rotation of Jeter and Youkilis the first half of the season then a triumvirate with ARod added in the second half. Jeter may hate it, but he'll have to deal. And, it will give us a chance to see what Nunez can do with semi-regular playing time in the bigs. And, if Youk sucks, we have 3 potential replacements waiting in the wings in Nunez, Joseph and Adams. But it's good that we dont have to rely on them right off the bat

I pretty much thought the same things when Boggs went to the Yanks. He'd just come off a terrible season with the Sox. Then I had to watch him ride that damn horse at Yankee Stadium. I'll never forget that.

Just the thought of that horse ride brings a huge smile to my face :D

f*** him, he's dead to me at this point.

It's been so long, I almost forgot how awesome Emmz was lol. That's exactly what I'm gonna say if Swisher signs up there, even though we chose not to bring him back. But just like BSN07 said, they don't give a s***. This is business to them. The days of Jackie Robinson getting traded to the Giants and choosing to retire before he ever wore black and orange are long gone. It's all about the money

You cannot look at dealing away or letting a player walk and think about where they'll sign. You have to think about how that player fits in your lineup and if the salary structure can support the asking price. That's it. If those two dont line up, then you let him walk. If it helps your rival, so be it.

For the first half of the season it will work. But I think Arod is a full time DH at this point if the Yankees want to salvage anything from him . Youk and Jeter will get DH time in the first half. But the 2nd half it won't be available as much and it will force Jeter and Youk in the field on an almost everyday basis unless they are willing to not have those bats in the line up. They are going to baby Arod because they are stuck with him for 5 more years. They will probably ride Youk into the ground.

You're probably right. A-Rod isn't a full time 3Bman anymore, and needs to DH the majority of the time. I hate to say it, but if Youk's only here for 1 year, then so be it. Into the ground he shall be run.

I didn't say I disagreed with the approach. if I had all that money tied up in Arod your damn right I'd ride the one year guy into the ground. It's one of the reasons I was surprised he chose the Yankees over Cleveland.

I was shocked he didn't reunite with Tito in Cleveland. I don't understand why they signed Reynolds before Youk signed, unless Youk gave them some sort of indication he wasn't going to go there. He probably went with the 1 year deal to reestablish some value so he could get more than $9 Mil a year on a multi-year contract. I'm sure the extra $3 Mil didn't hurt either.

Over/under on number of games at 3B before the DL....I'd go under on 45 all in!

At this point Youk's main talent is taking a walk, but even his OBP has been on the wane. Glad to see him in pinstripes, just another notch on the way down for our biggest rival.

Plus, Sox pitchers know to bust him inside and not to paint corners....throw him strikes then throw him out.

I don't like this no matter what spin people put on it. It is going to be tough for me to watch.

Seeing Youkilis in a Yankee uniform will be a constant reminder of the carnage that was Bobby Valentine.

Good for Youk, if I were there, Id cheer him. He deserved better.

I agree with both of these posts. My first thought was more like the bolded part of SCM's post.

Youk was likely done in Boston regardless of Valentine. I'd rather see former Sox players as role players for the Yanks then having them at the center of the team.

You really think so? I never got that impression.

I never thought or wanted them to extend him beyond his deal. He's not aging well, which was my biggest concern. At most I thought maybe they pick up the option. But after that he was likely done.

I know what you mean. It's still gonna be weird. If he has a great season in NY, that will suck.

After his quick start post trade to White Sox, Youk's numbers tailed off. The W-Sox not bringing him back says to me that two teams think he is done as a every day player. If the $panks run him out there every day he will get injuried, and there will be a decline in his production.

They will only need him out there every day until June when A-Rod returns.

It just won't look right with Youk in pinstrips and no facial hair. Say it isn't so.

We have already been throught this with Tiant, Boggs, Clemens, and Damon. There were others (Sparky Lyle for one), but we have adjusted and learned to hate them as Yankees.

I see absolutely no reason to hate Youkilis. He played hard for the team, but in the end they didn't want him, not the other way around.

Well, I honestly hate any Yankee. Louis Tiant was possibly the only exception.

I don't hate Youk at all, in fact I still like him,he helped the Sox win 2 world series and played his ass off with the team. That being said, I'm not rooting for him as long as he is on the Yankees. I hope he has a terrible season

Well said. I feel the same.

He probably doesnt like being a Yankee either. But he has 13 million reasons why he'd take the Yankees money

That and when the club he loved and played for all his career turns their back on you and ships you outta town via trade, the ultimate bitch slap back at the former club is to go and try to win for their biggest rival. I just hope he sucks all year and has a horrible season.

There are no rationalizations, qualifications or excuses of any kind with me. Youkilis is a Yankee, therefore he is an enemy-----pure and simple. Thank you Youk for what you did for the Red Sox when you were here but I hope he has one s***** year just like his new team.
