Swisher sucked in RF. He was like a Circus without any lights while 50 yr old coke heads are doing the flying trapeze.

Well Ross probably wouldn't gain you much. It might very well be a wash defensively.

Looks like Cody Ross is high priority for the Yanks. Undecided on this idea, he is coming off a good yr, but it was Fenway dependent

Just look at his splits, and you'll decide quickly.

Home: .298/.356/.565/.921

Away: .232/.294/.390/.684

He is a very LF dependent swinger. Not a fit at all for Yankee Stadium. It would completely eat him up.

SSS Alert: He hit .156/.152/.188 at Yankee Stadium in 2012 over 8 games, 33 PA.

OTOH, it might give us exactly what we need, a chance to groom our prospects and take a yr to step back. Nunez has been dynamite in limited time offensively, but he has been inconsistent with the glove. We also have Corban Joseph hitting very well on the farm at 2b, a position he could re-take if they decide to move Cano to 3b. Same can be said for David Adams. If Jeter can hit but cannot field come opening day and ARod is out for a length of time, I'd stash Derek Eater at SS and go with said infield. We would need to get a bat for RF, though, as our internal options arent ready for prime time come 2013

The problem for the Yankees isn't losing Arod's production. The problem here is that any trade value he once had is probably gone. 50 cents on the dollar is very optimistic-- a 37 year old steroid user with two bad hips and lots of bad other things?

They are better off paying the surgeon to screw his hip up and force him to retire lol

Anyway Jacko can do the surgery?

Breaking the Home Run record doesn't look like such a lock anymore.

I think it was a stretch before. This may be the final nail in the coffin.

The Yankees are open to trade scenarios involving Curtis Granderson, according to ESPN's Buster Olney (Twitter link). Olney notes that moving Granderson's $15MM salary would give general manager Brian Cashman more flexibility this offseason.

Seems the Yanks are in similar financial issues as the Red Sox were in last off season. The Yanks could very well be looking at a meltdown season too. Old rotation, left side of the infield is hurt, holes in the OF and not much money to fix the wholes. Not saying it's a sure thing but a lot is going to need to go right for them to compete(same for the Red Sox. don't get me wrong).

But there are some scenarios that could lead to a Yankee purge. Unlikely as it is, it's interesting to think of them cutting ties with Jeter, Pettitte, Mo, trading Cano and Arod(eating money obviously. Probably Keep CC and Tex. They would have tons of money and a few new prospect to remake the roster. Just thinking out loud, just an interesting discussion :)

Not sure nail is a strong enough word. I'm thinking a huge box of railroad spikes.

Yankees fielding offers for Granderson and are considered still in the Hamilton thing. Wouldnt that be interesting. Deal off Grandy for a slew of prospects then sign Hamilton.

A slew of prospects? He has one year left and hes more of a 25-30 HR guy then a 40+ in any stadium without a short perch in RF. He may get one or two good prospects, but I wouldn't expect a package.

How does Hamilton fit into the budget?

He doesn't.

It's Hamilton or Cano.

I'd deal Granderson to the Rangers for Olt or the M's for Walker, myself. I wouldn't sign Hamilton though.

I was just throwing that out there since it seemed to be the rumor of the day. I kinda like the fiscally responsible approach as we start seeing some fruit coming up from the minors.

I initially wanted Grandy to get dealt, but now, I think he has to stay unless we can get an OF basher for 2013. We have 3 top OF prospects who will be starting 2013 in Trenton (AA). Realistically, one should be big league ready come 2014. So signing Hamilton would be out of the question. We just need to secure enough offense to keep up with what should be a dynamite pitching staff

Chavez's deal with the D-Backs is for one year and $3MM, tweets Jack Magruder of FOXSportsArizona.com.

With Arod out I thought they'd be bringing him back.

They are talking to Youkilis.

I think he's gonna go play 1B in Cleveland. He's going to get a multi year deal. Something that doesn't make sense for the Yanks

Posted
If Youk is smart, he'll go somewhere to play 1B. It seems like most of his injuries started after we moved him to 3B.

Exactly. I could imagine him going back and playing ball with Francona as a manager again too. While I know the Yankees are in on him, I doubt they'd really want to take the risk of having another third basemen on the DL a month into the season.

You will be a 3b/DH split nearly the whole season. We don't have a set DH, so it's about getting guys who put up good ABs in the lineup. I doubt he plays more than 80 games at the position

Yesterday it was reported that Kevin Youkilis is weighing offers from multiple teams, with the Guardians in particular in hot pursuit. Here's a look at today's Youkilis rumors, with the latest coming on top... The Yankees' offer to Youkilis is for one-year and $12MM, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch (on Twitter). In case you missed it overnight, talks between Youk and the White Sox*never progressed to an advanced stage despite both sides being clear on what the other wanted.

This signing will bother me if it happens.

Just looking at the Yankees payroll commitments the next few years in light of Hal's insistence on getting it below 189 million for tax purposes, this is no secret, but the monster contracts are really tying them up.

A-Rod, Tex and CC-that's a total of 73 million for 3 players. Figure Cano for 20 million plus and you're already at close to 100 million for 4 players, without even dealing with numerous positions and with one pitcher accounted for. And remember that the 189 million includes benefits of 10 million + and the full 40-man roster. Wow!

Posted
We're gonna be an old team in 2013, but one that should have a shot. We're gonna be a mix of old and young in 2014, who knows how that will turn out. We'll go back to our ways in 2015. If the Yankees get under $189 by 2014, then they get a $50 mil refund from revenue sharing and their lux tax resets to zero. This means that it would take another 3 yrs to build back up to 50% if we're over. Otherwise, they lose that refund and pay 50% on all monies over $189 for each yr. That will likely be in the $150 mil range overall. Not chump change

 If the Red Sox were in the Yankees position you would already be throwing dirt on the coffin.

Our pitching will carry us. We'll be an old, brittle team with some damn good pitching. Come 2014, who knows what the f*** we'll be. We'll probably be $188.9 million dollars worth of total s***

Your pitching will carry you? Ok I'm not gonna jump on you too much since you do seem to realize 2013 could work out if the Yanks can squeeze enough from the old guys or go belly up.

You have a healthy CC, Pettitte for presumably more than just 12 starts, a durable Kuroda, Hughes with his stuff for the entire yr, and Nova vs Phelps for the 5 spot. Couple that with a pen that should have a healthy Mo and Joba for the whole yr and we should see a pretty solid mound presence for this team. Remember, Freddy "the corpse" Garcia started 17 games for us last yr. We won't see that this season. I also expect one more one yr pen signing a la Brian Wilson to sure up the back end. Our pitching will be rolling 3 deep in top line starters, a 4th who was pretty damn good last yr and 2 guys capable of holding their own in a rotation for the 5th spot. I am not worried one bit about our mound. It's the offense that divebombed us in the playoffs and it is decidedly worse at this juncture

Dont think Brian Wilson will shave the beard

& the Yankees wanting to give out only 1 year deals when teams will offer 2 will be hard for them to sign him

The Beard is his Trademark plus the Mohawk a clean shaven Wilson would be surprising
