Tough to predict anything about next year since outside of 2nd base and 3rd base I have no idea what the sox will be next year.

This is way to early to say one way or another. We have made no offseason moves whatsoever, neither have the Guardians (aside from hiring Francona). I do not know a lot about the Guardians, so I cannot really say how they are going to do. I can tell you that they will have a decent manager. As for the Red Sox, it could be a year like this past year or it could be a complete turnaround. We have the potential to have a strong offseason and be able to realistically compete in the AL East, but that depends on several factors. One thing we will need to do for next year is to avoid a lot of injuries.

Exactly.

And, kind of speaking to that, I like the Red Sox core more than the Guardians. So, gun to my head, I say Red Sox, but that could change based on either teams offseason.

I certainly do think that the Red Sox FO is more committed to winning sooner than the Guardians FO, because the Boston market requires it a lot more than the Cleveland market.

I think the Red Sox will be competitive for a WC slot next year, whereas I think the Guardians will be around a 73-75 win team.

At least the Guardians got their manager really quick. The Sox can't say that. Read some more today that the Jays are thinking hard about not letting Farrell out of his last year of his contract. If that is their way of jacking up their asking price then just walk away. Don't be stupid and give up anything of value.

With guys like Sandy Alomar, Jason Varitek, and Ryne Sandburg all available for no compensation, the Sox would be dumb to pay anything above a guy like Chris Carpenter for Farrell.

The sox won 69 games, but with the team they have under contract, they're way worse than that. I think the sox get smart, short term deals and win about 75 games next yr while building for next yr. I think the Guardians win about the same

Well, to be fair, Lester isn't a 4.82 ERA pitcher, Buchholz isn't a 4.56 ERA pitcher, and the Sox will certainly get two pitchers who outperform Cook/DiceK/Bard/Beckett.

So just with those alone, the Sox are probably an 81 win team.
