Going into the bottom of the 6th tied 3-3 with no game thread for probably the first time in the history of Talksox.

Sad, and quite frankly, f***ing inexcusable.

I had been posting in the 9/28 thread since we did not have one for 9/29...until.

We did the same thing about a week ago I think. It is pretty rare though. Stinks cause I really like the game threads.

At least we look respectable tonight....relative to the last couple of weeks anyway.

For what it's worth I thought the Yankees looked as bad as the Red Sox today.

Its hard for a lot people to see the Sox like this. Plus the only way we hurt the $pankees is if we lose. For me its just easier not watching. I sure next week it will feel like the playoffs. It will be our playoffs as we have a chance to be spoilers to the $panks. O's are in a first place with four to go.

Being able to endure the bad times makes the good times all the more sweeter.

Faithful, through and through.

Not really. Enduring the bad times just means that the jackasses running the FO have squandered the fans money, wasted our time, and taken our loyalty for granted. There is no upside.

This kid is going to be a star in our division for a long time. He's just a teenager. We have no one as good as him in our system.

Yeah, the Sox should have #3 overall draft picks more often.

BTW, while it's hard to think about Talksox not creating game threads for every game, I'm just hopeful that other people are actually living their lives too. For the past 8 years I have spent a shitload of time watching Sox games... weeknights, weekends, weekend days, all of them. They suck this year. I'm going to spend time with my 5 month old daughter and 3 year old daughter instead. It's a no-brainer and not at all reflective of my passion for the team. I hope others are in the same boat. Hell, Pedroia wouldn't watch this team if he didn't have to.

I wouldn't go too far criticizing the draft picks of the Red Sox. I mean, they've missed on a few guys, but a number of their picks have been quite good. Of all the areas to pick to criticize, drafting wouldn't be near the top of my list. As you said, FA acquisitions are at the top.

The whole organization has stunk pretty bad for the last several seasons and that includes talent evaluation. I didn't follow the draft too closely this season, but from what I have read, the Sox draft was not very highly regarded. When have we landed a talent like Trout with one of our first round picks. The Angels landed him with the 25th overall pick.

I don't see why some of you are upset. Granted, the Sox losing always sucks, but once they were eliminated mathematically, all we had to cheer for was the Yankees losing the division. Once the Yankees lost today, I was hoping the Sox would, only because it let the Orioles tie for first.

Yeah, because they've been so horrible drafting players.

They have not done anything very well except market for several years. That's how a juggernaut like the 2007 team got turned into this rubbish. I heard some stat the other day that the Red Sox were one of two teams not to have a rookie make a single start in 2012. Apparently, this has not happened for several years, and I think it is indicative of just how thin and weak our system is with regard to pitching. That's poor drafting.

24 teams passed on Mike Trout, but the Red Sox didn't--they drafted 28th that year. For all we know, the Sox could have had him #1 on their board, but couldn't have drafted him if they wanted to. Of course, he wasn't even the Angels first pick that year (they drafted Randal Grichuk immediately before Trout).

If you're talking about an all-round talent who is elite at the age of 19-20 (Harper, Trout, Upton), no, the Sox haven't drafted those guys. It's hard to draft those guys when you're picking in the 20s.

You have to go back to 2003 to find a position player who was drafted after the Sox first first-round pick who has since been an all-star (that's searching only 1st and supplemental round picks, mind you).

With their dismal performance this year, the Sox have assured themselves of their highest draft pick since 1994. They have a chance to get an all-star caliber player at that pick and it will be their most important draft pick in 20 years. They need to get it right.

Game, set, match.

The sox will also have a shot at a few extra picks should Papi walk. I dont know if Ross has compensation either, but the qualifying offer will be around $12 mil and I think the sox would rather not go that high for him
