Of course there's the joke that Red Sox fans root for the Sox and anyone who plays the Yankees, but does anyone here have another team they like?

I'm always pulling for the Padres, unless they play the Red Sox. They haven't been good in a long time but they play hard, they develop their players in the farm and they sell cheap tickets to the games. I've lived in Southern California for about 4 years now; I think they were good once a long time ago when their rotation was Maddux, Wells and Young but I can't remember.

Tomorrow through Sunday, my favorite team will be the Tampa Bay Rays. From the 18th through the 20th, my favorite team will be the Blue Jays. 21-23rd, Athletics. And so on until October 1st, when the Red Sox are my favorite again.

The Rockies have always been my NL team, unless they play the Sox. I also have a soft spot for the Pirates, as I've metioned before, because of the fact that almost my whole family on my dad's side comes from the area. Every time I go to visit family in Renfrew we catch at least one Pirates game. I've been to about a dozen Pirates home games and I think they've won maybe two of them.

The best one I remember was a few years ago, they lost 9-1 to the Cardinals. The run they scored was on a Darryl (Daryle?) Ward solo HR. Late in the game some dude near us made a leaning one-handed catch on a foul, stretching over the barrier in front of his seat, and everyone started cheering and yelling to the dugout to put him in the outfield.

I meant in the general long-term. The Vikings have never won a Super Bowl, the Wild have never even been to a Stanley Cup, The North Stars are in Texas now, and the Lakers haven't been in Minnesota since the 50s, according to Wikipedia. The Twins are overall, the most successful team Minnesota has had besides and since the Lakers.

Yeah, reminds me of Seattle. Seahawks are their best shot. Mariners have been bad for 10 years, and Sonics moved to Oklahoma City(Go Thunder!).

Yeah but Seattle doesn't count because it's full of hipsters. And hipsters only care about sports if they think they can be ironic about it. I bet among the 20-25 demographic in Seattle, there are more Supersonic and Pilots shirts than Seahawks or Mariners.

Nuke 'em all!

Sonics will be back. Clay Bennett and the city/NBA agreed to a Cleveland Browns type deal to keep the name, colors, and history of the Sonics in Seattle. There's already a probable owner in place and an arena deal was just agreed to. I'd say the Sonics are back in the league by 2016.

The question is, which existing team becomes the Sonics.

Nope. Think the Browns and Ravens in football. The Ravens were the Browns and moved from Cleveland, but only took existing players, staff, and equipment with them. Other than that, they were basically a new franchise, rather than just a relocated one. When the Browns were restarted as an expansion team a couple years later, the name, logo, history and all that were assigned to them.

It'll be a similar thing with the Sonics. The Thunder are a hit in OKC, so they're not going anywhere. Meaning if/when the Sonics return to the NBA, they'll have to either be an expansion team or another existing team would have to move there. It is a little confusing, yeah.

I hate the Rays, but a big part of me wants to see the Sox tank the 6 remaining games against the Rays so they can pass the Yankees and knock them out of the playoffs.

There's a lot of bad blood between the teams in the AL East. Personally, I don't like the Orioles, Rays or Yankees for obvious reasons (Orioles knocked out the Sox last year, Rays leapfrogged the Sox as a result). If I had to choose one to advance to the playoffs though, I would hope the Orioles get there
