Stewart looked good in the minors, let's see if he can keep it up.

Lineups:

Ciriaco 3B

Ellsbury CF

Pedroia 2B

Ross RF

Lavarnway C

Gomez 1B

Aviles DH

Iglesias SS

Posednik LF

^That's what I call a lineup!

That is as good a lineup as V can throw out there against a LH pitcher regardless of whether the kids are getting AB's or not.

I really hope that iglesias starts to show something with the bat in September if for nothing else than to establish some trade value.

We finally get something that resembles an MLB shortstop and you want to trade him?

Not looking to argue 700, but that's kind of the way I read it.
That's not what I said or meant. He is an asset. Hopefully, he can be the SS of the future, but the truth is that if he never shows anything with the bat, he will not be the SS of the future and he will have little trade value. I want them to maximize that asset whether it be by playing SS for the Sox or as a trade chip. I don't know what direction the Sox will take. Maybe they are going to kick the tires on Reyes, in which case they would like to move Igelsias for some value. As far as Iglesias being the first guy in a long time that resembles a major league SS, I have to say that I have seen them both, and Ciriaco is pretty darn slick at SS too.

Basically, yes. :)
No, basically, what I said is that I'd like for him to start hitting. That was the essence of my statement. If he doesn't hit, he has no value to us or anyone else.

Makes sense, I would hate to see the kid develop into something we really end up missing though, I tend to think that we don't need a great bat there if they make a few offensive tweaks elsewhere.

Iglesias having a good September is good for the Sox no matter what plans they have for him. He hits well and gains some confidence for 2013. It will make SS not look like a major whole in the off season. He hits well and they decide to go another direction then he is a bigger chip. If he hits .150 and plays a lot down the stretch who in the nation is going to live with that in 2013. He is going to get tested to because I believe 23 of the final 32 games are against teams still in the playoff hunt. That means he is going to see some good pitching. If he plays the steller D I can live with .250.

I interpreted it as hoping his bat improves to establish trade value.

I would rather his bat improve to help the Red Sox and possibly be our future SS. Good point about Ciriaco. He just worries me because he came out of nowhere. He is a hell of a Yankee killer as well. Always a good thing, no matter how awful our season is. Gotta love when the NYY lose. Just doesn't happen enough.

I hate these west coast games. My old ass just can't hang. :(

He doesn't have to hit a lot, but he needs to show something. He hasn't even shown the ability to move runners along.

I agree he needs to show more but let's give him some time. If you think about it, he really hasn't had a ton of professional AB until this year. He's had injury issues that kept him from getting more AB lower in the minors.

He's obviously not Pedroia with the bat, but Pedroia took awhile to show improvement at the plate when he first came up in 2006 and into early 2007. And we all know what happened after that.

Let's give the kid as many AB as possible and look for improvement in the approach, not necessarily at the stat line.

Well be interesting to see what happens with the relief pitchers tonight. I found V's explanation of how he planned out Ace last night totally unsatisfying. So tell me again why you used Bailey in that KC game V if you felt like it eliminated him for the Angels game last night?

Worse than that, if Ace came in for the 6th, V's plan was Ace till the end! Is V aiming for some sort of ML version of a maximum run differential rule?

Are you effin kidding me... just tuned in & Red Sox already trailing 4-0 in the 1st inning, with none out... this could be another long night. http://www.talkceltic.net/forum/images/smilies/54.gif

This is the bag of trash that we got for Youkilis. People shouldn't be expecting too much. At least we won't have to stay up late tonight.

I expected Ells to have a drop off this season from last as I really thought his last season was an anomaly. However I did not expect him to drop like a stone. I think Ells real game lies somewhere between his 2011 season and his 2012 season. Hopefully the Sox will make an offer commiserate with those kinds of numbers and if Ells takes it fine.

Tired of these contracts that the player cannot possibly live up to no matter what he does. Makes it tough on the player to want to play here I think because he can never do enough right even if he is playing pretty well.

They don't move runners as a matter of FO policy. They think it costs outs. That's the distorted view of sabermetrics.

But they did have Iggy bunting last night and he failed to do that and then failed to do anything positive that particular at bat.
