I always believed pitching is the key to sucess but I know no Red Sox fans that would be upset if they made that trade. Lincecum is available next year. Thats a total of 59 million. And a number 7 draft pick this year

Considering your sig, this post is highly ironic. Stanton's price should be massive, but he's not unmovable....no one is.

Reread my post. No one is unmovable, but at the moment, Giancarlo Stanton is the closest thing I've seen.

Beyeler named 1b coach.

Nice to see the Sox make a big move this off-season, I feel like this is the move to put us over the top and help us win the AL East and win the world series.

I should show you video clips of this kid Mike Trout. I bet the Angels wouldn't trade them straight up or even with multiple other pieces thrown in.

I can't help but wonder if fiscal discipline plus s***** current team will make it very hard to draw decent FAs unless it is their last resort. The last thing the sox should do is pay a 25% tax in AAV or years just to be an 85 win team.

I think that if V had somehow managed to stay on board, you could not have gotten anybody to come and play here. Not after the stuff that hit the media soon after V got the boot. I am sure that we were questioning V's voracity throughout the season. However it eventually became clear how often V was lying.....his lips were moving!

Even when V was telling the "truth" or at least the truth according to V, he continually spoke in riddles and in V code. As I had mentioned throughout the season at least to me that is just the worst possible way to run a ball club and communicate with ball players. Oddly enough V always seemed annoyed when guys could not figure out his code. Nobody wants to do that. It is a total waste of time.

Somehow V has always had himself convinced that he would be a great nightclub act. Well in fact he would be a lousy nightclub act but his insistence on bringing that approach to everything he does including managing is ridiculous. I just don't think you could get FA's to come here and play for that guy. I think the silver lining to Farrell is that at least he appears to be a straight shooter. I would think players would not shy away from playing for Farrell.

Anibal Sanchez would look good in the postseason

You did not just compare Anibal Sanchez to Pedro Martinez?

I'm seriously debating about hiring a midget to come to your house and kick you in the nuts...

I've had the same thought too. I'm not totally selling the team not being able to attract front line FA talent. But Boston doesn't have the shine it used too. I think it hurts them this off season. I think even if the team doesn't win a lot next year but shows some franchise unity and a direction this year without the circus, it will become a more desirable place to play rather quickly again.

If the circus returns next season it could have some more lingering effects.

Dying of laughter at the ridiculous claim that Anibal is like Pedro in the postseason and your reaction

Boston has a few things going for it. Tons of payroll, an elite farm system that will be ready in 1-2 years, and a hitter's ballpark which players know can help rebuild their own value in short term deal. They should be targeting hitters first, on short deals to make the team more attractive, then pitchers since they will be harder to bring aboard.

Oh ya of course they have those things going for it and most likely always will. But the circus atmosphere of the last couple seasons is what I expect might make players weary of Boston for at least this season.

I wonder if they will check in with KC on Francoeur? Can play RF, RH power that could put up comparable numbers to Ross IMO and is on the last year of his deal making 6.75M.

I can't imagine him costing a lot prospect wise. A deal could be expanded to include one of the other KC names that came up earlier in the thread. Just something to toss around on a slow day

Another slow day on Cherington Lane.

Climbing back to respectability may take paying a premium to get some big talent back at Fenway. No one wants to go play for a loser in a bad circus atmosphere. You are not going to get back to respectability, nevermind dominance, just by building from within. They f***ed up their franchise in the last 2-3 years and last year they took a sledgehammer to it. They no longer have the reputation of a professionally run organization that knows how to succeed. They have earned themselves a reputation of bumbling idiots. Not good for attracting talent.

I am waiting breathlessly for the announcement of their new minor league batting instructor.

That would do all of us a big favor.:thumbsup::harhar:B);):D

Sox apparently about to land Jonny Gomes.

a700 will be pleased.

If its true it's a nice RH option. I hope he wouldn't be the starter tho.

The Red Sox are closing in on a two-year contract with free agent outfielder Jonny Gomes, Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports (on Twitter). MVP Sports Group represents Gomes

Ok, I didn't realize he played that much for Oakland. Looks like he might be able to replicate Ross's numbers from last season or close to as a 4th OF.

Posted
He is not a very good fielder and would have to be platooned.
He's a horrible fielder, but he has had seasons where he has had some good LHP splits. Other years, I think he was a complete dud.

Ross is a horrible fielder so that might be a wash. That said I have already seen Ross in LF and don't find that completely objectionable. Ross is a one man circus in RF. If they do land Gomes for less money than the reported highway robbery Ross is looking for then that would be a good thing.
