Yeah' date=' believe me I understand what you're saying. I'm just getting a feeling that this team is quitting, and the FO may have to do it even if just to give the impression they're aware that this isn't really acceptable to the fans of Boston...[/quote']

I agree, but think the players would only receive the message that they are the ones in control and got what they want. Want to send a message, put Becket in the bull pen. Keep giving Pedroias playing time to Pedro. Make Lester DH- why the hell not! Send Aviles to Pawtucket. Giving the players what they want is no way to send them a message.

Your right E1, it was a run-on. Hit the Post button to fast for my own good. Wanted to get that out before folks left the thread.

Well said. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day, and now a700 has had his moment of being right.

Also, this:

"Before I forget and if I just don't get an opportunity to at some later date, I want to commend the guys like Elk and 700 and a few others who have been pretty much on point with regard to where this team was and where it was going for not gloating or making life more miserable for the more optimistic board members and I also want to commend the guys that have been steadfast in supporting a more optimistic view that have stayed with the board while the team has crumbled before their eyes."

is a long sentence. :D

That is some funny s*** right there.

Bogars would take the job but in truth at least from my perspective, V does not deserve a mid-season firing. He may not deserve a firing at all when you consider what alternatives might be available even after this season ends.

I never thought I would be sitting here, more or less defending V. However this team, this FO and this upper management has literally not left me a choice. I cannot in good conscience bang on V when so much of what is around him has been a fail on a historic level.

I don't know how much to fault Valentine for the mess. But the team is playing horrible baseball in just about every department, beating themselves in some of these games.

They gave him that little vote of confidence and they've lost 3 in a row since? Not a good omen for Bobby.

Give Pedroias spot to Pedro? Ummm no. If theres one guy on this team who actually gives his all every game its Pedroia. I'd put Pedro at SS and dump Aviles...

I'm sure Bogar would take the job. And he seems like the kind of guy who is a bit more of a John Farrell type who won't take much s*** from his players. I don't know why I feel that way' date=' he just kind of carries himself that way IMO.[/quote']

I would really like to agree with you... I'm just afraid the days of any manager taking charge of any veteran over paid guaranteed contact club house are way over. What's he going to do, yell at them, physically push them around, cut their salaries?????? I mean how is a manager going to straighten out players with guaranteed contracts making ten times more then he is and know they will be in a Sox uniform longer then he will no matter how poorly they do?

Bell I will be honest with you....I don't think that was a vote of confidence for V...think about it...is that in line with how that management group thinks? I think that was a vote of confidence for LL...he was the guy that went with V and I think JH wanted to throw some support LL's way just in case anybody thought they might smarten up and really start to address some of these issues where they live!

I never thought V was the right guy for this job and still don't think so...I am just growing sick and tired of seeing this organization fail and throw people under the bus that don't really deserve to be there in order to cover up their failures.....I am just sick to death of it. So much so that I just am not willing to see it happen to one more guy when there are so many jerks in management and among the players that need to be slapped upside the head.

Did Pedroia lead this team to be unified under the new manager, because he could have? What has Pedroia contributed with his bat? I am sure we could be a .500 team without Pedroia giving his all. Truth is he should be traded this off season while they could get a large return on his reputation. Another year of injuries and bad production and he won't be worth crap on he trade market.

Ellsbury doesn't look like an MVP.

He has sucked since return. I wouldn't sign him here long term with Bradley emergence as a better lead off hitter.

This Guardians team had lost 12 of their last 13 games. The Twins are battling for next years top 5 picks. Inexcusable to be 1-4 against these teams, even with the teams dreadful deficiencies.

49 more opportunities to frustrate the fans even more! What are we going to have to endure next?

That is a good point wyo.....will Pedey just become one more guy that they hang onto to long....keeping down guys that should be coming up.

I would like to think Pedey has enough in the tank to continue here. I would like to think he has the good sense to never put himself and his team in the position he put them in at the start of this season (i.e. keep his big mouth shut).

The simple truth is that no "team" run by players is going anywhere EVER. Management put this knuckle-headed team together but the vets could have had enough sense to recognize that they were just pouring gasoline on an the tinder and striking the match. They could have just found a way to deal with V. But No, not on a team full of guys that only care about themselves. Youk was not going to let a comment like the one V made go by without registering his displeasure because he thought the comment might directly bear on his value in the FA market. It is as simple as that. Pedey for his part completely sympathized with Youk. Leave it to a Sox vet to always side with a guy trying to maintain his FA value even if it means taking the legs out from under the manager and the team as a whole as a result.

They are all individually more important than the team which is of course the same thing as saying that each individual is more important than winning. That along with 700's "must score more than 5 to win" credo are the messages of the 2012 season.

1997 I think. If not' date=' it was 1993.[/quote']

1997. There was also a blizzard that year on April 1st (fool's day no less) that dump 2-3 foot of snow. I still remembered it well.

So, I think I'm going to hang myself at the entrance to Fenway. I imagine it won't get the point across, but it will at least make me feel better. This is excruciatingly depressing. I have tried and tried to look at the positive things this season, and tried and tried to believe that the Sox will turn around, but honestly I just don't see it anymore. I'm not going to flood every gamethread with "This team sucks" and "f*** ____", but I am losing my final shreds of optimism.

I still hope they can turn this season around. I am encouraged by Crawford and Gonzalez and very happy with Middlebrooks, Morales, Doubront, and Buchholz. I am not worried about Ortiz or Pedroia. I can't wait to see Valentine, Lucchino, or Henry gone but I doubt it will happen.

I am still going to watch every game, and cheer for the Sox. I just hope things change next season.

I can be wrong occasionally about individual players, but when it comes to the big picture I can usually tell early on if the team is good or not. If it makes you feel better E1, I was actually wrong about this team. I knew we could fall out of the race if things didn't work out perfectly with health and performance, but I didn't expect things to start crumbling on opening day. I was more right last year when I called the collapse in pretty much in the first week of September. If I tell you that the Sox are going down the drain, it ain't cause I'm a pessimist. The Sox losing is hugely painful to me as it is to the rest of you. If you don't want to take my evaluations and predictions to the bank and make some money on it that's fine, but maybe people will finally realize that I am not a crazy old cranky guy. Old and cranky.. yes, but not crazy.

Well Ted, I think is better do not go to Boston this year. It's worthless.

I do not want to sing Sweet Caroline while our team is pounded

I guess that trade makes sense if only to move Shop. But if Shop is not the deal then what do they need another outfielder for at this point?

I don't understand what everyone's huge problem is with Sweet Caroline. It's just a song they play during the 7th inning stretch. Most of the crowd gets into it. Why does it matter if they sing along with it or not? Should everyone in the stadium be looked down on for not sitting silently and sulking because the team isn't playing well? If I'm paying to go to the game, I want them to win, but if they don't I'm still going to try to enjoy myself.

I am glad they stayed and I wish more from the optimist crowd had stayed. Clearly the board has been mature enough not to degenerate into ugliness over the dif between the optimists and realists (I guess, for lack of a better term) and I would have preferred more people hang around because we all learn more from each other the more of us there are.[/quote']There's nothing to gloat about when my beloved Sox are sucking. I'm not going to fight with fellow fans when we are losing. Those who disagreed with me were hopeful and enthusiastic about their team. That's not something to criticize. I am still clinging to the slightest shred of hope about this lifeless bunch.

This team is just the most depressing thing in my life.
Several times recently I have posted that this team has ruined my Summer. Today, I found out that the 7 year old daughter of a woman at work is near death from leukemia that was very recently just diagnosed. That put things into perspective for me. If this team is the worst thing in my life, I should be very thankful.
