Well in that particular instance, JV was having real trouble finding the plate. There are instances where it makes sense to take even that goos a pitch and I suspect this was one of them.

I don't think I have ever seen such a stretch where JV threw so many balls in a stretch like that. Come to think of it, I don't know what his ball-strike percentages are tonight but he might have a higher ball-strike percentage for the game so far than I have seen from him before.

Some people are just never happy. 4 runs through 4 against the best pitcher in baseball and they bitch about Pedroia swinging at the first pitch

Also Peddy swings at the first pitch around once in every 20 at bats, and he took tons of pitches tonight.

Yankees losing now too. If the scores hold up' date=' that's a five-game gain on the Yankees in five days. Can't complain about that. Not that it will stop some from complaining anyway.[/quote']

Lost on Friday, so 4 in 4 days, no?

But regardless, if the Yanks lose, they will be 3-9 in their last 12.

Smells like September.

He's at 94 pitches with 55 being strikes.

The Yanks are quite capable of folding with all the age they have--even with those one-sided umpires in Yankee stadium. I think they have been over their heads the first half.

That is a pretty high percentage of balls for JV.

I think Shop got the guy at second also. I think it did need to be a perfect through and it was...good play by Ciriaco also as the ball and the runner looked like they almost got there simultaneously.

Yeah I forgot we had only played one game against Detroit so far. My mistake.

However, my point stands, mainly, that the Sox are still fighting and can definitely secure a playoff spot.

Well, they have a $170 million dollar payroll. Even with all the incompetence in the management, they still have talent on the field.

People have been talking about how old the Yankees are for 10 years now. Sox aren't catching them...

Wonder if JV was looking at the tarp coming out as he was going off the field. Would not be a surprise at this point.

Yeah, probably not. I just try to enjoy each one of their losses. :)

What a joke. After having Verlander on the rope' date=' they go out there hacking. How many times have you see that?[/quote']

Maybe Selig wants faster games. They don't get enough walks at the top of the lineup, as Pedey said. Pedey is about the only patient guy left. Maybe Papi, too.

Other teams know the Red Sox are one big pitch count machine. So they wait out their starters.

I'm definitely not going to count the Sox out, that's for sure. If both scores stand, the Sox will only be 7.5 out.

Two games into this series and the Sox want nothing to do with Fielder. They have handled Young pretty good so far.

yeah. It's a marathon. Strange things happen in August and September.Look at the Cardinals last year.

That's why the Phillies were foolish to sell.

The Sox have a lot of talent, but they have to use that talent properly.

WC maybe. AL East no way.

I would about prefer to see the other teams above the Sox lose as opposed to the Yanks. The Sox have to climb past them just to get to the WC. If the Yanks fail those other teams have a better shot at the division than the Sox. The Sox need to get one of the WC it would seem.
