I know a lot of sox fans harbor some resentment towards Theo, but you have to respect what he is doing in Chicago. He took over a bear of a team with a bunch of players past their prime or just not good occupying a lot of their roster. But he has now made 2 deals that will stand out for them in the long term.

The first is the re-acquisition of Anthony Rizzo. They dealt hard throwing Andrew Cashner for him, but they acquired a kid who is quickly turning into a future star at 1b. Rizzo has the looks of a Joey Votto type of hitter who is finally comfortable in his third organization in 2 years. Cashner looks like a closer type, but you will take the #3 hitter for the next 10 seasons for a middle relief/closer type any day of the week.

The other was his expert deal yesterday with the Braves. He dealt a 1 yr rental in Maholm and a 4th OFer in Johnson (both would be FAs next yr) for a rehabbing former Yankees prospect Arodys Vizcaino. Yes, he is hurt, but he had TJS, something that has become a right of passage for pitchers. Arodys was a guy I didnt want to deal for Javy Vazquez, but that is beside the point. The kid has the rare combo of power and command at a young age. He should be ready to resume his big league career next yr, a season where he will be 22 yrs old for the entire season.

They also were able to get something for Soto, who has been an embarassment this season and are trying like hell to get something of value for Dempster, who has painted them into a corner.

Getting Rizzo gotta be one of the heist of the decade.

The Cubs I think have the best winning record since they promoted Rizzo, won 8/9 series. But that about to change with most of the veterans on their way out.

Trading Maholm for Vizcaino could turn into an excellent move. Really, a top 100 prospect to rent Maholm? I don't care if he has Tommy John, that just seems silly.

Short of unloading Soriano's contract on someone, he pretty much wrote the manual on how to sell at the deadline and put yourself in a position to succeed in the future.

If only Cherington knew how to read.

Theo never sold at the deadline in his time with the Red Sox...

And who says Cherington has the authority or even the desire to sell? I don't understand why people continue to try to analyze Cherington's thought process as if they had any idea what he's thinking or his plans are.

Based on the trade reports, my impression was that he had the authority to trade the small pieces.

Even that probably has to go through the "Master Puppeteer" Larry Lucchino.

Yeah Jacko, oh no! Now we should miss Epstien on top of our other woes. Please be here when we all have a good laugh as we watch your team flush another 200 million plus down the shitter this year just to play a few games in October then fizzle out again.

Soooo, you'd rather be home for October than play in it at all? Really? You sure do make a lot of sense

If I ever feel the need to post new threads on a Yankee site to constantly drag Yankee fans down during their worst season in a decade then I would expect to get called on it. THAT makes sense.

Think you're just being an ******* for no reason.

How many Theo appreciation threads did you make during his nine year tenure with the Red Sox, during which he won two World Series?
