This a link to the video of the collision. It's clearly Ellsbury's ball, who's the one facing the ball. Please tell me how this is his and not Beltre's fault.

Yeah, thats Ellsbury's ball. So he calls for it and if Beltre doesn't back off he has to know that Beltre weighs about 100 lbs more than he does. The right move if Beltre keeps coming is to avoid the collision and let the foul ball fall.

After Buster Posey got his ankle smashed blocking home plate last he was ordered not to do that again. Let the run score. He is too valuable to risk that kind of injury again. Similarly with Ellsbury, he has to learn to avoid collisions like that whenever possible.

He's running full speed. How is he going to get out of the way in that situation? Please provide me a viable scenario where they're both charging at that speed, and he realizes Beltre is not stopping when it's clearly his ball and he's focused on it. Even had he realized Beltre wasn't stopping, he didn't have enough time to react. Be realistic.

seriously pumpsie, how can we blame a player for him to get injured.

what is his motivation to injure himself, think about it for a minute. are you even listening or hearing before you type something...

Pumpsie this is ridiculous. That collision was a freak accident, and was neither players fault.

You want these players to avoid collisions, but then when they do peel off, you would be screaming in the game threads about how they're pathetic players for not going all out.

Paul Blair may have been the best CF that I ever saw. I didn't see Mays in his prime. I can't remember Blair having a bad collision in the Outfield. That being said, the collision with Beltre was Beltre's fault. He was out way too far for that ball. He should have expected Ellsbury to be there, and had it not been for Beltre, Ells would have been able to catch that ball without going into a slide.

This is very very strange, but i wholeheartedly agree with you.

One theory gaining popularity as to the reason for his slow healing time coming back from injuries is his agent Scott Boras. Given the fiasco with his earlier injury and the questionable actions of the Red Sox medical staff, many think that Boras has encouraged the go slow appraoch so Ells won't put up poor numbers that would diminish his free agency value. I've heard more than one analyst put forth that point of view.

Sadly, that is not implausible at all.

Nor should it be. The doctors saw the injury, examined him and went by XRAYS for confirmation of rib fractures. Any intern can tell you that XRays are notoriously HORRIBLE for diagnosing rib fractures. If you went to a doctor who told you that it was just a bruise, sent you out to the field and later you found out you had 4 fractures, you'd probably be pretty skeptical as well. And Boras knows that a season like last yr will make him some big money. If Ells comes back healthy after the ASB and stays healthy next yr, he'll be making huge money.
