There is a reason why they might consider moving Bogaerts to land an ace. If they are convinced that WMB is the real deal superstar material' date=' Bogaerts path to Fenway is likely blocked. If he is blocked by WMB, his stock may not rise that high unless he flat out eats up AAA pitching like he is the next coming of Pujols. Teams will know that we have no room for him and they will know that our hand will be forced to move WMB or Bogaerts. We would not be dealing from strength. Depth and redundancy isn't necessarily strength on the trade market.[/quote']

If he's that good, they'll move him to LF. He's already projected to potentially be a corner OF if he doesn't stick at 3B.

I think he's is untouchable, likely the only untouchable.

But you go to Philly with Barnes + Lavarnway, you can start some talk for Hamels.

Rays vs Yankees:

Moore vs Garcia

Shields vs Nova

Price vs Phelps

Could the Rays sweep this?? Those are some ugly matchups for the Yankees.

Go sweep the A's and we could be 3.5 or 4.5 back from the Yanks by the series.

Sox vs. A's:

DiceK vs Parker

Lester vs TBA

Morales vs Griffin

I wonder if they will start Cook on Wednesday and have Morales start Friday against the Yankees

I'll be turning cartwheels if they land Hamels. I just don't see the Phillies throwing in the towel on 2012. They have a lot of money invested in that roster.

I do not want to see the Sox mortgage the future by swapping top prospects to rent Hamels for two months. What makes this a difficult situation is that Hamels is going to get a very large haul when he is a FA. So we would be locked into another long term expensive contract AND we would have to surrender too much young talent for him. Bad combination. I think Hernandez is under control for another couple of years. Thats the kind of situation I would be looking for. At the end of his contract we would have other absurd contracts ending and could then sign him (or someone like him) longer term if he works out well.

Almost certainly, no? I would be very shocked if they started Morales Thursday vs A's after 109 pitches and Cook Friday vs NYY after 81 pitches.

All signs point to Cook Thursday, Morales Friday IMO.

I'm right there with you man but this is some real optimistic thinking.

I think 2/3 from Oak is reasonable but 1/3 not at all far fetched.

Rays were swept by KC. Period.

Even if Morales threw 85-95 pitches I'd still put him against the Yanks.

No knocking on Cook but we need swing n miss versus the Bombers who are completely living up too their nickname and then some this season... Cook would get shelled on IMO, anything up in the zone.

Salty deserved to make it. He's known now, and will have a better chance next year if he keeps hitting and improving his defense.

Pretty dumb if Morales doesn't start against NY.

Would've been nice to get 3 wins or the sweep but I'll take the split and we did gain ground on Baltimore and we have a leg up on Tampa.

I think you meant Cook Wednesday as Thursday is a rest day from traveling back home. But I'd be very surprised too if Morales isn't starting on Friday.

Glad to see us get away with this win. There are a couple of areas for concern for me, especially with Doubront. I am sure it was stated at some point in this thread, but I do not feel like reading 20+ pages. Doubront has pitched more innings this year than any other year in his career. I know a question is if the fatigue is finally starting to settle in. The starting pitching is going to have to get figured out with seven candidates. Morales is doing good. Cook did great in his last start. Dice-K was decent in his last start. Doubront is looking more and more fatigued. Beckett and Lester have been up and down this year. Buchholz has been solid before he got sick. What to do with the starting rotation? I like the options we have. I hope Morales sticks in the rotation. I hope Dice-K goes. Maybe we can trade him for a reliever or someone, but we might have to DFA him. The decisions with the outfield and rotation are going to be tough to make. Let's just hope we make the right decisions.

We're facing Parker tomorrow' date=' who had a 1.70 ERA in his last 7 starts.[/quote']

Then he is due to get his ass kicked. No one has only great games. Everyone has a lemon sometimes. Its Parker's turn.

The numbers don't lool good for the Sox winning the division. I think that it will take 95 wins to take the ALE. We're at the half way point in a couple of days and the Sox are 5 games over .500. In order to get to 95 wins, they would have to play 23 games over .500 on the second half for a record of 52-29 for a .641 winning percentage. I don't thinlk this team has that kind of play in it. Pumpsie is probably more right than we want to believe about the division hopes. The Sox need to go on a tear now to have a chance, not at the end of July. That wil be too late if the Yankees clean our clocks beforew the All Star break.

I don't like tonight's matchup.

It's hard to like when Dice K starts. You never know what you're gonna get.....

Well, if he stays consistent, he'll get into a jam in the first, give up a couple runs and then settle in. He'll get pulled in about the 6th.
