Won't matter when we take the next 3 this weekend against this second rate franchise that should collectively slit it's own wrist and save the rest of baseball the trouble of having to go to that s*** stadium in that s*** city to play that s*** team with its s*** players in front of their s*** fans in s*** weather.

I think you might be overreacting a bit. After all, Washington state gave us Starbucks!

Crap. I was watching the 9th inning on a delay because my dog decided that it was a perfect time to flip out and bark up a storm. Not how I wanted it to go.

But that was Felix. Not concerned about the offense. Sox should hammer the M's in the next 3 games.

Atch should not have been in the game in that spot. He has not proven to be dependable in high pressure situations all season. He does terrific in the right spots and I thought V had figured this out already. Oh well.

As for Salty...take your f***in' mask off for crying out loud. I hate catchers trying to make that play with their mask on...if you take an elbow in the face...to f***in' bad...that is the job.

As for Felix and even Morales....this game was a great example of pitching and how it completely controls the game of baseball. If we really want to play for the division...get another arm.

There are no sure things in baseball but I think chances are real good that we can take the next three from the Mariners.

These are good games for us to watch though because we have seen two really good pitchers go tonight and seen how they completely controlled the game. We are not likely to see anything like that kind of performance tomorrow night. If Cook makes enough mistakes to the Mariners, watch how they suddenly look like they know a little about hitting.

Tomorrow should be a game where the pitchers are not sufficiently talented to control the game as they did tonight and while the M's should hit some, the Sox should do more damage with the mistake pitches they get and that should be the difference in the teams and in the game.

Tough loss, but it was the hardest matchup they'll face for a few weeks and they didn't lose any ground in the AL East. Seattle and Oakland will be cakewalks now that this one is done with.

And people are going to be saying that gonzo chokes and couldn't get it done.
No, it has nothing to do with clutch. He jiust sucks this year in all situations. That's why hew is not even hotting in the top half of an injured lineup.

I bet you couldn't wait to break that number out.
I didn't even bother to look it up until after he swung at that first pitch. As SFF pointed out, he is a rookie. These are growning pains, but keep in mind that our insurance against a prolonged slump by WMB or an injury to Gonzo is Punto. I guess they were afraid that Youk would set the clubhouse on fire or worse yet, he might break out some chicken and beer. But then again, how could we pass up Lilli-Buchholz and Zack Stewart.

I love how the optimists are as reactionary as anybody. This loss isn't on Atchison, Bobby V, Salty or WMB. Atchison has been great all year. You don't need someone who misses bats if you hand them the ball to start an inning. If he came in with men on base, it would be a different story. Atch has been money all season long. He's been every bit as reliable as Padilla-- maybe more so. People who wanted Melancon, because it was a pressure situation are you kidding me? He hasn't done very well in pressure spots this year.

We lost because we faced one of the top pitchers in baseball in his prime and we faced him with half of our regular lineup and one of our biggest guns has been in a season long slump. We hit one ball hard all night long- Ortiz's single in the 9th. You don't deserve to win when you don't score. To those who said the Mariners didn't deserve to win, are you kidding me? If Morales wasn't continuing to be the surprise of the Red Sox season, this game would have probably been lost in the first inning, because our other pitchers can't seem to help but give up runs in the first inning.

Morales looks like an overpowering starter and he pitched magnificently. He could only go 7 innings. Felix pitched even better and went the distance. Seattle deserved the win and the Red Sox had no goats.

This, from top to bottom. They lost to Felix Hernandez, who as a magnificent pitcher had perhaps his most magnificent outing. He's a different caliber of pitcher and he pitched the whole way. Dont s*** on Atcheson or the other players. It was a great game that the Sox just happened to lose.

Also, throw the farm at Seattle for Felix. He's right there with Strasburg as the best in the league if you ask me.

And Verlander. Only thing that concerns me about Felix is how many innings he's thrown at his age-about 1500 MLB innings.

Nailed it. It was Felix at his finest. Hard to win a game when one of the best pitchers in the game has all his stuff.

I completely agree that the Sox lost to Felix. He was terrific. The fact that Morales matched him for as long as he did was staggering.

WMB is a young ball player. He is going to make mistakes. No sense pounding him for them but he did make one tonight. Does not change anything really. Hope he recognizes it and learns from it.

The ninth inning creates a pressure all its own. Atch has been lights out when he gets to start clean innings but I think in the main because they are not high pressure situations. I think that is why I would not have gone to Atch in that case. In this case I saw the ninth inning as just another high pressure situation more than just another clean inning for Atch to start.

Salty has been better defensively in this most recent stretch than at any time that I can remember. He does still have a tendency to pull almost rabbit out of a hat bad defensive plays. Would have been really interested to see how the rest of that game would have gone if we did take it to extras.

All of those plays and decisions combined paled in comparison to what Felix did.

Last night's game was the best example we could have of how much pitching controls the game of baseball. What might be valuable to look at here is these two games being played back to back. Because in tonight's game we should not see anything like the kinds of pitching performances we saw from either Felix or Frank. We should see more hitting because the pitchers will make more mistakes. Both teams should hit better because they will see more mistake pitches to hit and the difference in tonight's game should be that the Sox will do more with the mistake pitches they hit. They will hit them harder and farther, more often for extra bases than the Mariners will and that should be the difference in the game.

The lesson should be that hitting matters to the degree that pitching allows it to matter. Particularly in the regular season, good hitters don't do more with good pitching than poor hitters. Good hitters do more with mistake pitches than poor hitters. You are lucky to see a hitter do something with a well pitched baseball once a game.

I think Seattle was very careful with him when they called him up. As careful as a team can be, in my opinion. He has innings for sure but I would have used him the same way. He's truly a beast.

Yup, I agree.

Almost every starting pitcher will say something along the lines of "There are 5 games where your stuff can't be beat, 5 games where your stuff can't win, and the other 20 starts where you make your season."

We ran into Felix in one of those 5 that he can't be beat. That was easily the best I've ever seen Felix. Unreal.

Go win the next 3.
