So, Buchholz has intestinal bleeding. And he'll be back in 10-14 days. The most common cause of his bleed is infection, be it bacterial or viral causing irritation and bleeding. But something he fits into the age group of is inflammatory bowel conditions like Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis. Problems that typically require some immunosuppression and are chronic conditions that can flare and cause weight loss, dehydration, and significant GI bleeding. I hope, for his sake, it is not an autoimmune process. We shall see

Valentine said that its not believed to be anything serious and that he is expected back after his stint on the DL. To me that means its probably not inflammatory bowel disease, which would certainly be a career threatening condition.

How much of this could be caused by Buchholtz's general nervous disposition?

Well, at the very least....this allows Franklin Morales to get a couple more starts.

By the time Buchholz is back, Beckett will be ready to take another turn on the DL with blisters...so at a minimum, Morales will get 4 more starts.

Maybe Lester can go on the DL for mental duress or general whininess. He keeps telling us that he feels good and is throwing great. Yet, we are losing more than 60 percenrt of his starts. Hey Jon, it's not a mystery. You suck. Pull your s*** together and start winning. I am tired of hearing how well you throw after you lose.

None of it. No one knows what causes inflammatory bowel disease, though as I recall there is a genetic component to it and I believe its associated with psychiatric disorders. But there is no cause and effect: just because someone is nervous it does not predispose people to IBD.

George Brett crapped his pants multiple times. What's the big deal? Just shake it off (err, out) and keep pitching!

Its clearly not the Red Sox's year.

It hasn't been since day 1 this past off season. I hope they win, but pretty much this is what I expected minus Salty being a surprise thus far.

The trade deadline will tell us where the FO's state of mind is.

I haven't been to a game in 1 1/2 years.....after going to at least 5 or 6 a year since 1992. I just cant bring myself to spending the money there.

Interesting. The question then arises, if Buchholtz has had similar flare ups in the past.

I doubt he has been diagnosed with this before now, if thats what it even is (unlikely if Valentine said its nothing serious). I cannot imagine a ML pitcher playing with that condition. There would be no way to maintain any kind of rhythm. He would frequently miss starts due to flareups and would sometimes feel weak and drained even without a flareup. Its a very serious condition, sometime requiring some of the bowel to be removed. I would not wish that on anyone.

So, Pumps are you thinking that we have not actually got an accurate description of what Buch has got since V is describing it as "not serious"?

Uh oh. The countdown begins. Any last words?

I request "Ring Of Fire" by Johnny Cash be played at the funeral service.

He will stay in the hospital another night. There is something they arent saying. If it was just a simple intestinal illness, he'd have stayed in the hospital for 1-2 nights, not 4

I have no idea what they are or are not telling us. The lack of information is concerning. If it were just a simple infection they probably would have told us that already.
