This will be a 10-4 game for the Sox--unless Garza's pitching. They hit the ball well yesterday, but at every fielder. Just one of those games. And one of those years so far. Very little has gone right.

I'd say the next 5 games will be a good test of just where we stand on the Suck-o-meter, especially the offense. We face Samardzija and Maholm, then home to face Buehrle, Nolasco and Zambrano.

It is tough to tell from afar but it seems to me that the Sox start these games, business as usual and in their case that means at a leisurely pace. Lets have a nice stretch here in the first inning. Ya' know lets sort of ease into it. After all, we have nine innings to play.

Isn't this one of my crusty old Red Sox vet entitlements?????....might even be in my contract come to think of it...where is that thing!

I would like to see them for once start the game like it is going to be a close hard fought game. I would like to see them working their outs every inning in an effort to push runs across the plate. If an actually big inning busts out in the middle of it all....fine. If not, get me a run anyway. Push one across. Fight every inning.

Every time I see one of them daydreaming on the base paths I want to walk out there and kick him right in the junk. Wake the f*** up for crying out loud.

I do think they have been pressing but they are playing the game in the usual Sox fashion and it is so contrary to the kind of baseball they need to play to win games like these. Sure every once and awhile, they will bust out and score enough runs in one game to have won the last five. Big deal. Seen that act to many times already......any year....any game we can do that with ease. But fight hard for a win....oh no....you are disturbing my beauty sleep. Now they must be up to something like 2-26 in games that they are behind by the sixth inning. Working to surpass that outstanding record they compiled last year.

Ya' I really have been expecting either Agons dropped in the order and Youk sits or Agons takes a day off. Given the pitcher today Youk sits makes the most sense. Really interested to see what Salty does with the 4......maybe nothing but it will still be fun to watch.

Here we go folks....Beckett is officially on the 15 day DL. That is not great but tolerable. If it gets worse than that though....the Sox really don't have an answer.

Bad News: Beckett to 15 day DL (although V said he could pitch if it was in the post season, so probably will be back after 15 days).

Good News:

1) Aaron Cook to start in Pawtucket on Monday.

2) Cody Ross starting in Pawtucket tonight (probably be with team by Tuesday)

3) Carl Crawford threw from 110 feet. That's about as far as he'll need to throw in a game. Infielders can extend cutoff to accommodate for his arm healing. Took BP. V says he's probably ready for games. Wants 45-50 PA before called up. That's about 10-12 games. Give him a couple off days, that puts him right around July 1 for a return. Back in time for a 4 game Yankees series.

Win some games and get healthy. It's only June. Way too much baseball left to get too concerned with standings.

CC needs to be able to throw 150-175 to at least hit the cutoff. It's more than 110 ft from the monster to 2b.

Just really need him back no matter what. He doesn't need a Vlad Guerrero arm.

SFF, I admire your optimism, I really do. But to say "its only June" is a joke. Next month are you going to say "its only July"? This team has been in last place or close to it every day of this season so far. They are a MESS, and they are far less talented than a lot of people think. Thats WHY they are in last place. If they were a highly talented club, they would be in the hunt for a playoff position.

The Jays won today; they Yankees are about to win too. If we lose tonite and go 9 games behind the Yankees its time for everyone to wrap their arms around the fact that we are not going to make the playoffs this year. This is a team on the precipice. One more false step and they jump into the abyss.

Sorry, but thats the way it is.

One way or another, this team will have its work cut out for it in the 2nd half. The flip side of having a tough schedule against divisional opponents is it gives this team complete control over its own destiny instead of relying on other teams to pull out wins. As long as they don't continue to fall further behind, they will at least give themselves a fighting chance.

Who knows? Maybe by then their health, play on the field, and luck will have them hitting on all cylinders.

I see another year where the Sox start spring training on opening day, suck the first half of the season away then get all kinds of applause on these boards from the "optimists" for how much ground they make up in the second half even though they fall short yet again. I can deal with having a less than stellar Sox team, hell we have to be used to that by now but as Jung pointed out, the lackadaisical attitude of this team has grown to be self embarrassing at this point.

And F&*K Josh Beckett hard at this point, another God damned hypochondriac baby that wants the summer off.

Oh and if the Sox don't want to be swept again (and this time by Theo's rotten Cubs) they better pull a rabbit out of their ass tonight cause Morales on the hill tomorrow doesn't really inspire confidence.

Wow, I just got screwed by my tv market. Can't watch the game on cable because Fox is showing the Tampa Bay game instead and i can't watch it on MLB TV because apparently I am in the market where it is blackouted. Wtf

Out of all people Morales. Why?

Guess he is the best we have.

Sad, isn't it.

That game is a testament to all those fans who thought we had a chance if our top 3 SP remained healthy all season. It was never going to happen, and its not over yet. It would take incredible luck for that to happen, yet we stocked our lower tier in the rotation with untested question marks. One worked out; one failed miserably. Now Beckett is down, probably for a long time. And we get Morales. Or Cooke. Or Germano.

And some people think its still early and remain optimistic for the team. I just don't see how that can be justified with the reality of our situation.

It should be Buchholz on Sunday. Off-days on Thursday and Monday give more rest than normal, so it would be a while before Beckett's slot would come up if everyone took 4 days rest.

Not a #2 hitter right now.

Not a hitter at all right now.

You guys enjoy the game. Got a BBQ to attend; no Sox fans there, just divers.

To VA: its safe to enter the game thread now.:D
