Just noting that Hanley is struggling over there in Marlins land for the past 1.5 seasons or so. And they recently signed Reyes to a mega-contract. Wouldn't it make sense to trade say a package involving Youkilis for Hanley? Youk is more of a real 3rd baseman than Hanley. We don't need 3rd base help since we have Middlebrooks.

Hanley's offense would be a huge upgrade over Aviles, although he's having a 'nice' season by his standards, if Hanley returns to form this season he would be much better. Hanley might just need a change of scenery to turn things around. And an infield that includes H. Ramirez, D. Pedroia and Middlebrooks might be the most talented in baseball. Thoughts?

We are going to be lucky to get a bag of golf balls for Youkilis. Who else would you include in that package, since Youkilis is a worthless piece and certainly not the main player?

As for how much you can get in trade for Youkilis. That matter is certainly up for debate!

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1211799-what-can-the-red-sox-get-for-youkilis-in-a-trade#

Assuming that Youkilis isn't enough. The Red Sox might consider parting ways with Jacoby Ellsbury in order to get another piece for the OF. Ellsbury will likely demand more money than the Red Sox can afford, because of the albatross that is the Carl Crawford contract.

So the trade would look something like this:

Kevin Youkilis + Jacoby Ellsbury + Prospect

for

Hanley Ramirez + Giancarlo Stanton + Prospect

Red Sox install Giancarlo as one of their corner outfielders of which they really need another badly, plug in Ramirez at short, and move Aviles to super-sub if. They then trot out Nava or Lin as their CF.

Marlins move Youk to 3rd, and plug in a new superstar CF in Ellsbury. A minor exchange of prospects might happen to even out the deal.

Win-Win for both teams!

With all due respect, those two guys are idiots. Who the hell are they anyway? Youkilis coming into this game (he went 0 for 4 today) was at .219/.655, which is similar to what he hit after the ASB last year. He is FINISHED; and he is owed a lot of money. The idea that we will haul in a ML ready player who can contribute in a trade for Youkilis can only be made with a moron of a GM. Its not going to happen. Period.

Also I thought Theo (or maybe Larry) offered Ells AND Buchholz for Hanley a year or 2 ago and they said no thanks. So why should this time be any different?

Aviles has done a pretty good job. His numbers except for OBP (.290) are pretty good for a SS.

He's certainly no better than average defensively. With the pitching bad and the defense almost as bad, you would think a defensive wiz like Iglesias would be more valued. I'm wondering if he hasn't been a victim of a power struggle between the FO and V.

As for Hanley, he started slow, got hot, and has now cooled off again. Defensively, I don't know if he's much of an improvement over Aviles at this point. I doubt he's on the market. The Marlins are desperate to attract Miami's Hispanics to fill the stadium, and he's one of their showpieces.

Ahh, the annual Hanley thread. A tradition literally every deadline and every offseason since 2006. Actually it's a little overdue this year, I thought to see it before now TBH.

Hanley is water under the bridge. Deal with it. If it was going to happen, it would have happened by now.

Aviles SUCKS .

Since his hot start to the year he's been BRUTAL .

Meanwhile, after a slow start to the year , Scutaro is picking it up and playing great as of late

At second base. Scutaro is having a good year at second base.

He is no solution at all to any problem we might have had at short. None. He wasn't adequate in year one and only declined since. At least Aviles is cost controlled.

That said -- if we were starting a middle infielder with a .327 OBP, you'd still be complaining. Especially if OBP is supposed to be the thing the guy did well. I don't even have to guarantee that BTW -- it's a straight up concrete fact.

And in a month' date=' it'll reverse again[/b'].

Looking back over your shoulder doesn't help you see where you're going.

Doubt it . Aviles sucks , plain and simple . His career numbers shows it .

He has a career OPS of .721. That's about average for a shortstop.

And the Red Sox are about average for a baseball team. Is that sufficient? We need above average players at as many positions as possible. If Aviles cannot hit the baseball better than he is hitting now, he can be jettisoned along with all the other deadwood on this team, and we can bring up Iglesias or Ciriaco. If we are not going to make the playoffs and if we are going to be a .500 team this year, I would much rather watch the kids than the overpaid spoiled veterans who still think this is a country club.

Mostly due to his rookie year ' date=' since then its 691 OPS[/quote']

He had a .700 OPS in 2011, and a .750 OPS in 2010. It is not skewed by one year.

No thanks.......we need less selfish clubhouse *******s, not more.

We already pay enough for guys with immense amounts of talent that do nothing but poison the locker room.

This coming from the guy who makes a new thread whenever the Redsox make the smallest insignificant move....like signing a new batboy.

How many Salty threads are you up to now?

I thought you quit the site? I got my hopes up too.

The least you could do after that glob of attention whoring is vanish for good.

Glad to see you are still baiting and offering little to no real insight about anything.

Nice to see nothings changed in 5 weeks. You see....there is a world outside of the internet buddy.

Fortunately for the rest of us, your a f***ing geek and never make it out of the basement:thumbsup::thumbsup: !!!!:)

How is me being a 'f***ing geek' fortunate for you? Just curious.

If you really posted a retirement thread only to come back in a month to stir up s*** I don't know how you're mustering up the balls to slam other people. You have the spine of a gummy bear, and you can't live without this place. That much is obvious.

With that I'm done, you're not worth the lost brain cells.

I left because I needed a break from members like you.

It may be unfortunate for you that it was not permanent. But its unfortunate for me that you're still here.

.....and you're done. Typical.....bait, piss someone off, then run away and hide. Like you always do. Talk about spineless, that means nothing coming from you.
