I say cut Macdonald

Then it's between Byrd,Posednick and Middlebrooks

They will probably send Middlebrooks or Posednick to AAA but is that the right move?

What MVP said.

I agree -and hope this is what they do but something tells me Posednick will be put on waivers and claimed and Middlebrooks will be on the Paw Sox

Hope i'm wrong

Unfortunately they won't DFA Mac AND Byrd because they are both RHH. Also, I was surprised, but they put Byrd in for Podsednik in CF when they were doing defensive replacements the other night (I believe Pod moved to one of the corners), but that kind of shows you how they feel about Podsednik vs Byrd defensively.

I say DFA Darnell (or leave him on the DL until another OF goes down), so that only leaves Ross. No chance they send Nava back down unless he cools off substantially. It will be interesting to see if they try to make room for him via a trade of some of these players. Guys like Youk, Podsednik, Byrd, Morales, and even Nava are all guys who will eventually likely be traded or moved in some way.

My guess is they make a trade involving Youkilis to make room for Ross.

I don't see a Youkilis trade happening.

You never know what they are going to do. They don't always keep the best players. Other factors such as contracts and options are often more important.

They have a logjam of outfielders: Byrd, Sweeney, Ross, McDonald, Pods, Nava, CC and Ellsbury.

They need to demote or trade 3 guys. Crawford is the guy that doesn't fit. Nava is a switch hitter, which helps him. Ross and Sweeney figure to stick.

They have to make a deal involving Youks and at least one of the outfielders.

I wonder how the organization will handle d-mac. Whenever you hear something about d-mac that seems to come out of the Red Sox organization, it almost sounds like he has found a way to endear himself to the Red Sox in a way that just does not seem likely for a guy who is really a career minor leaguer/bench player.

I would expect him to be DFA's as well. You do sort of wonder why it has not happened yet as the Sox could have probably done something like Pods or Byrd at any time over the last couple years. Maybe this will just go off without a hitch. Might be interesting to watch though.

DMac DFA

Byrd DFA

Wow!!!! We totally agree on something MVP. That's my opinion as well. I kind of like Byrd but other players are doing better and are more productive. McDonald on the o ther hand is full horseshit, can't hit, is a lousy fielder, and totally a dunce on the basepaths. He is no match for Ross, Nava or even Podsednik. Again, though, I want Middlebrooks on the Red Sox and not down at Pawtucket and that is why I strongly believe we must trade Youkilis before he goes back on the DL, which I'm thoroughly convinced he will.

Let's just hope CC doesn't return this year. That will help? :) I can't help wishing he'd go ahead & have surgery. I like the guy, but I think he's scared _hitless to come back & play in Boston. This contract is going to be an albatross around our necks for the next 6 years :( I know he's gotta come back sometime, so I'm still rooting for the guy.

If it were all as simple as having the best players out there, it would be Ells CF (when he returns), Nava stays in LF, & Sweeney stays in RF. I do like the pop Ross bring, & he was doing pretty well at the plate, but his fielding horrific. I've always liked Nava, & Sweeney is THE pick up of the off season!

sinse I'm dreaming...... how 'bout we eat 75% of CC contract, & deal him. Then offer Ells a long term contract? It's nice to dream......

How's Boston? Wish I were there!!!

I agree with SBF and mvp. DFA both Byrd and D-Mac, keep Podsednik. In addition, dismember Punto and sell him for parts. Both the Russian and Chinese mob pay big for human organs.

Or, uh, so I heard.

p.s. I agree! D'Mac should be on an INDEFINITE stint on the DL....... Again, NICE GUY, but he bring zero buzz to our lineup. I hear he's a great "locker room guy," but we need help off the bench! Yeh, yeh, yeh...... RH hitter. I really don't care anymore. It's eventually gonna come down to numbers when Ells, CC, & Ross come back. Sweeney & Nava must stay!!!! Which means D'Mac & Byrd must go? You keep CC, & I'll keep Bryd :) Problem solved.

oooops! Forgot about A-Pod. Starting to like the "kid." It's great to actually have so many "problems" in the OF. Hat's off to so many of these guys for stepping up! If I'm a GM, I'd be looking at Nava & Sweeney, & saying I could build a damned good outfield around those two.

It's an easy call with regard to McDonald. He gets DFA'd. It's a harder call when Ross and Ells return. Byrd would be the first on the chopping block. As between Nava and Pods, I don't know if Nava's OBP will be significantly higher than Pods so as to offset the other things that Pods does well. He is the better fielder and base runner. He's a good bunter and a more well-rounded player. It's a tough call. Over the next month Nava will not get as many walks at the top of the order in front of the big boppers. He'll see a lot of fastballs. He'll have to hit himself on base.

Ross is close to getting re-hab games and the FO must decide who to cut, Podsednik, MacDime, Byrd.

I don't think Nava could be sent down nor should he be.
