Pedey got 3 hits yesterday, so maybe the thumb isn't a factor.

I'd like to see that Ciriaco up too, but Punto is under contract. They're paying him, and that's a factor.

I think we all agree the club had a tired look, and the new faces really helped. Too bad the front office didn't see that sooner, when they were loading the team up with cheap retreads.

I really do not know if the thumb is a big factor. Pedroia and Bobby V both have stated that it is not a factor. I think it is more of Pedroia was just struggling and in a slump. It happens to everyone. He did have a huge game yesterday. Hopefully he can add on to his good game yesterday.

Pedey's wearing his red sox high today and has shaved his beard. What gives' date=' Pedey?[/quote']

A new look perhaps Sox Sport. I never was much in judging a guy wearing a beard but it looked pretty crappy on Pedroia. He looked like a little thug; if he wants the clear look, good for him. What I want to see is a lot more hits from him what we've gotten lately.

I am used to him with the beard. He looked a lot younger without it. Almost like a college player. He has a two game hitting streak going, and he has four hits in the last two games. In his last at bat, he ripped a ball right down the line that went foul. He then flew out to deep RF. He has pop in his bat still and is still swinging the bat well. I think he will be fine. He is starting to bring his BA back up.

Three game hitting streak for Pedroia. Six hits during those three games, including a double, triple, two RBI's, two walks, and an OBP of .533. He is definitely performing better in these last three games. Hopefully he can keep it up.

Hey man, when Dustin Pedroia comes up to you in a dark alley and demands your cash and jewelry you give him your f***ing cash and jewelry.

It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog. I hand over the wallet.

I think we agree that we need Dustin in that lineup doing his thing. Maybe he should have been put on the DL, but you have to admire the fact that unlike a number of candy asses we have on the team who get a hang nail and are out weeks and months, Dustin comes to play, does not want to miss a game, and leaves it all out on the field. Maybe finally next year when they allow Ortiz to go free agency this will finally be Dustin's team. Keeping my fingers crossed that he stays in one piece, if we are ever going to challenge for a WS ring again he will need a healthy and productive Dustin Pedroia leading the charge.

I agree. Pedroia needs to be in the lineup. He has struggled prior to the last three games, but I think it is his time to break out. I think Pedroia will be fine. He is still young and plays hard. I think Big Papi will be around. I think this should be their team together. We may disagree there, but I don't think the FO let's Big Papi play somewhere else until he retires. He has been a big part of our success this year. He has already hit 20 homers if I remember correctly not even at the halfway point. He is on pace to hit 40 this year. Big Papi still has a good bat. I think both have what it takes to be leaders on this team. Big Papi is really respected in the clubhouse. I think this is Pedroia's team. If we did have a captain, it would probably be Dustin. I think Pedroia will be around for years to come and will be productive.

Pedroia out of the lineup today because he jammed his thumb. The good thing is it is not the same part of the thumb as his last injury. He needs to get this checked out. Hopefully it is not serious, but he is having more problems with that thumb than he should.

Just saw on twitter that a Major League source is saying Pedroia is likely headed to the 15 day DL. The good thing is the All-Star Break is coming up. Hopefully he can get it healed up and be back to 100% by the time he returns.

Yes, he has been placed on the DL. That should be great for the weekend.

Lets see if the 15 day DL is sufficient or if there is more to this. Its conceivable that this is an exacerbation of the previous injury, the one he refused to rest adequately (and which has affected his performance for a long time), loudly declaring "No one tells me when I am going to play".

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

They didnt say what the injury was to' date=' just that it wasnt to the adductor muscle. Could be the ulnar collateral ligament, which would be a problem[/quote']

Gotta bone up on my thumb anatomy lessons....

I wonder if the original injury contributed to this injury in any way. Is it the same thumb? If so, thats a pretty big coincidence.

The article I read did say that he should be back after the 15 days are up, and that starts yesterday, so he could be back July 19th. Let's hope it is not serious and that some time off will completely heal it. The good news is that some of those days are during the All-Star Break. The bad news is that we play the Yanks four games this weekend. Let's hope that he can return and produce, along with Ells, Sweeney, and CC. Are there any other options other than Punto? Can we please try Aviles at 2B and bring Iglesias or Ciriaco up?

I am really worried about the Sox chances going into a big series now with Ells, CC, Pedey and WMB out of the lineup. The Sox have found ways to live without Ells and CC at least up till the last couple of weeks. Add WMB and Pedey to the list and that is just to many guys out. In fact, I would argue that if for any real length of time, Pedey and WMB are harder for the Sox to live without than Ells and CC.

Why was this not addressed weeks ago?

Because the Red Sox couldn't afford to lose Pedroia weeks ago, Pedroia likely knew it and continued playing through pain. Seems likely to me.
