I can't think of a single thing the front office did pre-season that was correct--in personnel decisions.

The trades blew up in their faces. They knew Bailey was injury prone.

Aviles was annointed SS, even though Iggy had won the job until he got hurt. And he's still mired in AAA.

Ciriaco looked the best of the lot and was completely ignored. They missed the boat on him until injuries forced him into the lineup.

They have outfielders like Sweeney on the roster while a superior player like Kalish is still rotting in AAA.

They damaged Bard by moving him to starter--and cost the team a first rate setup or closer guy.

Lav is still stuck in AAA, though he could well be their best all-around catcher right now.

Well, they did do one thing right--they signed Ross.

I'd like to see them move Beckett because I think Morales could take his place in a minute.

Doubront-Morales-Lester--3 LHd starters who give them a good shot to win in Yankee stadium. Plus Miller in the BP--looking good.

The other two starters? Buchholz and Aviles--after Bard-Bailey are back in the BP.

I hope they don't move Beckett just for the sake of moving him... He showed a little fire last night.... He didn't pitch AS bad last outting.....If it makes sense, do it... But don't do it just to do it.... I don't want to see us paying for him to pitch against us...

I agree to that.

Also heard Tito say if you want to follow someone follow Beckett. and Lester did that, and that goes to show untill last season this was a close knit team.

I still think keeping Beckett makes a lot more sense than trading him for peanuts.

Because he eats chicken and is a meany face.

BTR to an extent i didnt like his attitude, but trading him away for peanuts when you know Beckett can surely turn it around.. we can still get the trade done in winter if need be. but we need Beckett/Lester to be the go to guys without which our season is going no where.

Beckett/Lester needs to turn the ship around..

He's a fat lazy piece of s*** who sets a bad example for the entire staff. He goes golfing when he's injured, he bitches about not having a lot of off days when he only pitches every 5th day. Plenty more negatives than positives.

i know if there is anyone on this team that needs to get traded Beckett might be it. but problem is we dont want to get peanuts in return..

he still is giving us decent outings.

Beckett/Salty/Aviles to Reds for Mesoraco/AAA pitcher ? would anyone would the Reds buy into that?

The tweets are saying Shoppach and Beckett are possible for Texas. They can probably steal Beckett.

The guy pitched well last year except for September, and has been victimized by the chicken-beer media BS. He's still a $10 mil pitcher, and holding onto him isn't bad compared to what they can get for him.

Dealing Shoppy makes sense to open a spot up for Lav, who needs some ML catching experience now.

A lotta people don't realize the media can damage a player's trade value by printing a lot of negative clubhouse stuff that may or may not be true. That hurt Youks trade value, and it will hurt Beckett. That's why teams detest leaks. But the Red Sox have such poor leadership they let the team get away from them, so they deserve it.

It's time the season ticket holders had a protest in the stands--like they had when the Babe was stolen by the Yankees. That would open a few eyes.

I remember that fans protested the trading of Hawk Harrelson in 1969.

I remember that fans protested the trading of Hawk Harrelson in 1969.

That trade certainly came as a shocker after the season Hawk had in 1968. The Sox also traded 16-game-winner Dick Ellsworth and hard throwing lefty Juan Pizarro. The 1969 season wasn't two weeks old.

The Sox received Sonny Siebert who was a very good pitcher for the Sox (Remember Siebert versus Blue at Fenway 1971?) and a useful reliever in Vincente Romo. I'm not sure why the Sox accepted catcher Joe Azcue, but he didn't stick around long if I remember correctly.

Btw, Azcue was Cuban and believed to be responsible for teaching the "Cuban forkball" which was actually a spitball to staffs he caught.

Josh Beckett Rumors: Monday

By Tim Dierkes [July 30 at 3:47pm CST]

Despite a report of the Red Sox shopping righty Josh Beckett to the Rangers and Braves, there was a clear vibe from reporters this morning that a trade is unlikely. Beckett can veto any trade given his 10-and-5 rights, and he's owed $37MM through 2014. The latest on the 32-year-old Texan...

•Beckett will not be traded to the Rangers, tweets WEEI's Rob Bradford.

•Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com has a different take on the Beckett situation. He says the Red Sox are willing to listen but not aggressively seeking to move him, and it is the Rangers, Braves, and Dodgers who called to inquire on Beckett. McAdam says the Sox won't assume much of the $37MM owed to Beckett, and the chances of a deal are less than 50-50.

My recollection is that the Yankees came to town a couple of days later, and the fans were still protesting the trade. I think that I heard about it on the Yankee radio broadcast.

Is Cherrington going to earn his pay this week ? During the winter meetings we all watched while the Red Sox did just about nothing. Teams like the Angels landed Pujols and CJ Wilson, the Tigers went out and got Prince Fielder, the Yankees and Mariners made deals involving Montero, Papplebon went to the Phillies, the list goes on.

Cheringtons excuse was the Red Sox were a good team the way they were ? really ? Don't look now Ben , but they are in last place. I think it's time you earn your money and put together a deal that benefits this team and it's painfully loyal fan base. We have sat through enough this season, and are now ready for you to make some moves that get us something that nobody ever expected. Make it SO BEN ! I honestly don't care about luxury tax, veterans, Bobby Valentine, injuries or anything else but making the most season. I want to win, and while I know the future of this team must be considered, in other words , don't give away the farm, consider this.....If you continue to let this fan base down, if you continue to field a last place team and do nothing, I can guarantee you that your revenues WILL drop. Whether it be in ticket sales, jerseys and souvenirs , concessions, TV contracts , or all of the above, you are hurting this franchise short and long term, and hurting it bad. We are sick of hearing about the deal that almost was, that the Red Sox were in on the deal to the last minutes, it all means nothing if you don't get something done. Do something Ben and make me a fan of yours like I am a fan of the Red Sox.

Havent read through all 66 pages of this thread, but just looking through possible trade rumors online... Looks like Masty is available from the Guardians but their asking price is 2 position players and a pitching prospect. I liked Masty and even though hes have an off season he has shown just as much if not more talent than most of our starters. Whats everyones take on Masterson coming back to Boston and being in our Rotation?

LOL, you still defend Beckett?

Wow! Talk about being blind.

Let's say that something hypothetically happened to Josh Beckett. Would we still be on the hook for the rest of his contract? Would we have to pay his estate the remainder of the contract or could we write it off as a "fortunate act of God"

I want CHAOS tomorrow.

Trade Beckett.

Fire Valetine.

Fire Lucchino.

Fire the coaching staff.

Trade Ellsbury.

Trade Salty.

Shake it up like I said to do all offseason.
