I think that he simply isn't that good. He is a #3-4 SP; thats all he is now. Maybe our expectations are too high for him. I was hoping he would come up big in a big game for us, but he is no longer capable of doing that. He has gotten worse over the years since 2010, consistently worse.

Well every once and awhile we review these guys for their competitive standing within the league:

Lester, one of the sorrier excuses for a #1 and clearly not a 1 for a contending team

Beckett, still in my mind as solid a 2 as you are likely to find but not better than that

Buch, an absolute disaster as a 3

Doubront, better than most 4's you will find

Bard, better than most 5's you will find

 

As I mentioned earlier, Lester's behavior and his demeanor on the mound is way below expectations for your #1 pitcher. You just cannot be out there obsessing about ump calls because they have already beaten you if you do. You have let them beat you.
