In the entire of last season I don't remember Gonzo having as many junk AB's as he has had so far this season. Swings at way too much, needs to get his plate discipline back.

If you look you will see that Gonzo first pitch swings at anything close to being on the outer part of the plate because he really just wants to take the ball to left field. Then when he past the first pitch of the at bat he is still so adamant about going to left field that he does not even protect the plate with two strikes. He is still looking outside and is usually meat for any pitcher that can catch the inner third of the plate with two strikes.

 

Eventually these pitchers are going to try to get strike 1 on the outer edge....will try to get him to chase farther outside for strike 2 and then pound him inside for strike 3. Either that or they will try to pound him inside right from the start since he is reluctant to swing at inside strikes early in the count. At any rate, he is becoming very predictable at the plate.
