AGons wall balled a double just last night. The thing you don't really take into account is that the ball is in the air for an incredible length of time on a wall ball. The fielder is standing there forever waiting for the thing to bounce off the wall and then he has to get to it and throw it in.

Of course if someone hits a high pop fly off the wall, your guaranteed a double .... But if you hit line drive shots ( like papi and agon do ) unless yours ellsbury or petey your held to a single

I did not get my edit in there in time before you posted again but watch the number of times the fielder has to stand there waiting for the ball to come off the wall or just as bad goes to the wall thinking he has a chance to catch it only to have it bounce off just above his glove forcing him or his teammate to track it down before the ball can be thrown back in.

Don't get me wrong, I agree it goes both ways... But power guys like agon and papi lose alot of doubles on line drives off the monster, just like faster guys like ells and etc , it doesn't really affect him as much

On line drives balls that are hard off of the wall, more times than not with someone with Papi's speed, it will be a single. With balls that would be flyouts in other parks that hit the Green Monster, then most of the time they will be doubles.

Check the MLB park factoring at ESPN for each type of hit. You will find that Fenway is either #1 or #2 in Park Factoring for Doubles every year. No other park even comes close to Fenway's record. In years when Fenway is number 2 the number 1 park often changes around. However no other park is either always #1 or #2.

I'm not gonna debate against facts, but I will say this... I'd have to believe that the array of "superstar" caliber players we've had over the yrs has to factor into that... But unless there's a away team only stat for "park effect", I guess I'll concede this one to ya.... Well played sir<_>

Park factors compare home vs road performance. The ability of better players impacts both home and road totals, which is to say, having better players is irrelevant because of what data is being compared.

Sorta funny situation for us Sox fans...was about to say "wouldn't it be nice to go into these later innings with something like an 8 run lead just to cruise for a change"...then remembered...nope that's not enough.

So with that in mind...."wouldn't it be nice to go into these later innings with something like a 12 run lead just to cruise for a change".

I am so happy that Felix has done this well for a first year as a big league starter...especially happy since the Sox were out of options on Felix and I was so damned worried that we would end up seeing Felix doing this for somebody else.

Miller has done so good since coming back!

Really interested to see if Miller comes out for a second inning. V has done so much of this one inning for you and one inning for you stuff...eventually he gets to somebody that shits the bed. Plus Miller has pitched so well I would hope he can go more than 1 inning more often.

Only thing I got, I'm not gonna get to far back into it... This series vs Cleveland has seen 14 runs a piece for both teams, 11 doubles for the sox 6 for the Guardians .... I know for a season this may mean nothing, but maybe I'll get bored and look into it later tonight

If you look at the way park factoring is complied it's real purpose is to remove the differences between players, whether ours or theirs, whether those players are playing home or away and only look at the impact from the park itself.

At the end of it all the mean average park gets a score of a 1 and then parks either side of the mean average get scores above or below 1. Records are compiled for every kind of hit.

See now I know Miller is just getting back but did it not look like V should have at least tried him?

I understand that, but your telling me ( just for arguments sake ) that if Boston hitters hit say 400? Doubles at home but their opponents only hit 300? at Fenway, that wouldn't skew the numbers a bit? Yeah in the end it's alot of doubles, but IF ( idk if there is ) there is a big discrepancy between our hitters and the visiting teams hitters, wouldn't that then atleast flaw the system a little bit? I really don't get into all the "extra" stats like that, so I'm not even 100% sure if I follow my own reasoning
