Hey look, Theo "The Saviour" Epstien's Cubs are playing .406 baseball by May 12th.

Where have I seen that .406 recently?

Last night the Sox combined barely passible pitching with MOST of them playing good baseball for a change to get a win.

If they can get the same Doubront effort that he has given them his last few outings and combine that with MOST of them again playing good baseball again, they may just be able to squeeze out another win and some momentum as well. If last night is any indication, Nava better be in today's line up, sad to say.

Pedroia had a great game last night. He has a 11 or 12 game hitting streak now if I remember correctly. If anyone this season is going to be our team MVP this year, it is going to be Dustin. He is probably our most consistent hitter and our most consinstent player defensively. He is a gold glove defender and one of the best offensive second baseman in all of baseball.

Big Papi and Sweeney have been solid offensively so far this year and Gonzalez is starting to get hot. I like what I am seeing from Middlebrooks and Nava. Byrd has been doing decent. A lot better with us than what he was doing with the Cubs. I really hope Aviles and Ross can get hot.

Yep he's on a 12, I think he can reach 20. By far the best player on the team.

Lavarnway is hitting .260ish right now I hope if he gets called up he's more a .280 hitter. I'm done with the Salty era.

He was hitting in the .220's not too long ago. He has been improving at the plate lately. We all know what kind of potential he has at the plate. He has seven hits in his last five games. There is no doubt in my mind that he will come around offensively. He just needs to settle in and find his swing. He is not any worse defensively at C than Salty is. He has more potential at the plate than Shop or Salty. I think it is time to move him up and give him a chance.

I don't know much about Lavarnway, he's got a high ceiling offensively?? More than WMB?

That is a tough call. Lavarnway has above average power. I always thought that Middlebrooks was a good contact hitter, but he really has proved that he has a lot of power so far this year. I am not sure who has the higher ceiling offensively. I think that Lavarnway will be able to produce more HR's and RBI's at the Major League level, but then again Middlebrooks has surprised a lot of people this year. If you would have asked me in Spring Training, I would have thought that Lavarwnay would be given a chance before Middlebrooks in the pros. I really think that they both have high ceilings offensively, but at this point I think it comes down to a coin toss to who has the higher ceiling offensively. I think both have potential to produce 25+ HR's at the Major League level. I do know that Middlebrooks is our best prospect and that he is the better offensive and defensive player. Lavarnway will progressively get better as a catcher, but when it comes to being the better all around player, then I think that goes to Middlebrooks. I do like Lavarnway's work ethic, which I think will allow him to become an everyday starter as a C in the majors, unlike what some scouts think he can become.

Papi can't get any respect?? Petey's been great, but not "by far best player so far " if we go offensively, which in fairness to Ortiz - that's all we can compare- And papi's numbers are better than petey's in every category

Just give him the respect he deserves and has earned

Edit: sorry, petey has 1 more run scored than papi

This team has gotten a tremendous spark from the Pawtucket guys which is both a pleasure and a worry. They have both taken better at bats and smarter at bats than a good number of the so called veterans. Nava has thrown better outfield leather in a couple of nights than the rest of the outfielders have for a couple of weeks.

That said most all of them played decent baseball last night...showed some smarts at the plate for a change and even threw some leather at catcher (heaven help us). Pedey does not fall into the problem category as he almost always makes smart plate appearances as does Ortiz for the most part and Pedey is always great in the field. In both cases the only time they don't make smart plate appearances is when they try to take too much of the offensive responsibility on their own shoulders. In Pedey's case when that happens it is usually cause pitchers are unwilling to pitch him on the inner half. Pedey gets desperate to get a pitch on the inner half and will sometimes swing at something that is not a very good pitch if he does get desperate. When Ortiz takes to much burden on he starts swinging at pitches high and inside which is not his pitch.

Hopefully we will see at least the effort we have gotten out of Doubront the last few starts and at least as much smarts at the plate and decent baseball in the field as we saw last night.

The Tribe has an also ran pitching tonight. This is just the kind of guy that should be meat especially for the Sox LH hitters. If they have trouble with this guy the top of my head is going to come off.
