I have called out of work once, to see my daughter be born. So, no, I have never called out of work to golf. And you will just give him a pass if he did just want to call out of work to golf? Are you f***ing kidding me? This has to be a joke? A pitcher who throws every 5 days wanted to hit the links rather than throw. You have outed yourself as the teams biggest homer

First off, it's not just this, it's everything. People pile on to this guy because he was dubbed the ringleader by the media.

Second off, I'm not defending him. I'm saying that nobody knows exactly went on at the golf course. Nobody knows how he felt that day. Nobody knows if he was chipping and putting or if he was just taking it easy off the tee box.

What if the guy was having a big fight with his wife, and he needed to get away from everything before it blew up, so he called Buchholz and had him meet up at the golf course to get away from it all??

Everyone just jumps to these assumptions about it, and players aren't going to come out and tell everything because they all hate the media, so they're not going to justify a story, regardless of whether it's legitimate or not.

And finally - I'm saying there's a very good chance that everyone here is a hypocrite if they've never called out of work sick for golf or to relax, skipped class to go out and hang out with your friends, or just bailed on any prior commitment because you wanted to do something else.

How is it being hypocritical? Me calling out of a job and hanging around all day or playing a game is in no way comparable to me injuring a part of me that is vital to my work and then being stupid enough to do an activity that could possibly exacerbate that injury when I'm given time off to recoup. No matter what' date=' what he did was f***ing stupid. It doesn't matter if he misses his next start because of this or if he comes back completely fine, what does matter is he was stupid enough in the first place to take that risk.[/quote']

First off, nobody knows the situation. Did anyone here see Beckett out there gripping and ripping off the box? No. Was it reported that he was trying to rip it off the tee? No. So nobody knows, first off, how he was playing, or the situation around him playing.

What do you do for a living? Do you work behind a desk? Have you ever actually been sick and then still gone out and done something (i.e. gone to a football game in the cold weather) that could have made you more sick? Of course you have. Regardless of whether your a college student, or whatever, everyone has responsibilities, and everyone has risked further sickness or injury that would keep them from their responsibilities. And that's what is so hypocritical about this.

f*** him, anyone with a brain figured out he was a punk way before last September. Look at Beckett and look at Cal Ripken jr., yeah they both walk upright but that's where the similarities end.

Ok. Let's assume you make $45,000. What if you saw the secretary at your work call out sick one day, then later that night saw her at the bar?

Then lets say a week later, you call out sick, and you're out golfing, and you see your secretary. Now she's ripping into you for calling out sick and being at the golf course. You think that's ok?

Well guess what. You're the secretary.

That is stupid and it doesnt make it right. You are just trying to justify something that isnt justifiable, and doing a poor job at that

Oh my God.

How many times do I have to say this. I'M NOT DEFENDING HIM!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not saying what he did was right. I'm saying nobody has a right to pass judgement because EVERYONE HAS DONE THE SAME THING!!!!!!

Did you ever skip class in college? If you say "But nobody paid me to go to college" I would argue that you either had money from your parents or scholarships. That's the exact same thing. Everyone here has bailed on a responsibility of some sort and done something they wanted to. If you say you haven't, you're a liar.

And ya know what the worst part is?? How many of you have ever called out of work "sick" and gone and done something you wanted to do (i.e. golf, just relaxed, whatever), but regardless, you weren't sick. By no means am I justifying that or saying that it's any less reason to be pissed, in fact, if he did fake the injury, there would be indescribably more reason to be pissed at him, BUT...

Dumb. I work 250 days a year. Beckett pitches in 35 regular season games.

It'd be like me cutting out for 2 weeks to go on a bender. I'd also get my ass fired.

Personally, I just can't care about this story very much.

No one needs to know how he was playing. That really does not matter. In the end, he claimed to be hurt and couldn't play but still went out and did something that requires use of his injured part. I don't care how hard he was playing or how soft he was playing, in the end it was stupid to put himself in that situation and it comes across to me as selfish and reckless.

I have called out of my jobs before, sometimes straight up lying saying I was sick when I wasn't and then had fun. That isn't in any way comparable to this. But I have never been enough of a f***ing moron to call out while actually sick or injured and then gone out and done something that can potentially make me sicker or more injured. I don't know, maybe I have some sense of responsibility or something...

Also, here's something else. If I do this, my boss can fire my ass. What on earth can we do about Beckett? Nothing.

That's the thing, it seems almost as if he planned on taking the start off, like he had built up this lie the week before, and stuck to it.

Another overblown story.

Just like beer and chicken. They interviewed Cody Ross the other day on WEEI and he was saying "That's present in every clubhouse".

People are just pissed off about September, and rightfully so, but they're taking out every bit of anger on Beckett. The whole beer and chicken thing is just something for people to pile on.

And the same thing is happening with this. Who freaking cares if he went out and played golf. Yes, it probably wasn't the best thing he could have done, but who cares. Maybe he was feeling a bit better and thought he may be able to stretch it out a little. Maybe he was playing in a scramble and only chipped and putted. Nobody knows this s***.

Don't be a hypocrite. Everyone has done it. Yes it's ********. Yes it's ridiculous. Yes I'd be pissed too. But nobody can say a word because everyone has done the exact same thing. And don't say "But he's making all this money" because it's the principle, and if someone who was making less than you was judging you for this, you would say the exact same thing.

Well you clearly pay zero attention to what I post, so I'm not going to talk about this anymore. You're taking my posts and trying to tell me that I'm saying something I'm not.

Hahahahahaha.

Dude. READ MY POSTS!!!

I said people are being hypocritical about this, not that it's ok that he did it!!!

I said nobody can pass judgement because everyone does it.

By saying we are being hypocritical and "everyone does it" you are justifying it. How do you not see this?

This is laughable.

When Jesus said "He who has not sinned may cast the first stone", was he justifying the woman being a prostitute?

I guess Jesus justified prostitution.

Whatever you believe, the point is that I was not justifying nor defending him from his actions. I was saying it's hypocritical for everyone to jump on him for it.

Ok' date=' think I'm done with Beckett[/quote']I have been done with him since 2008 when he shut himself down for 3 weeks when he was healthy because the delicate little princess got pin and needles from sleeping on his arm. He just refused to go out and pitch although doctors all cleared him. He was shut down for 3 weeks with no pain or stiffness, because he was worried about his future. The prick was still under contract for 2 more seasons. Go out and pitch you f***ing prick. If your arm blows out, f*** you, the Red Sox owned that arm for 2 more years. Ironically and infuriatingly, he got injured when he came back, because he was out of condition from not pitching for 3 weeks. He pulled his lat and ruined our season. f*** him. Maybe some of you now can see what I didn't like about him.

No. I. Am. Not.

Do you speed? Yes. Do I speed? Yes.

Do I rip you for speeding? No.

That's what is going on here.
