Problem is, Youk's in a contract year. He's got an option, but it's overpriced. Either way, he'd be going to a contender. No contender is going to look to sell a SP unless they are flush in SP and weak in offense.

 

Only way you get something back is if you either take on years or salary from a team trying to get rebuild and get rid of deadweight. Think of the ChiSox - Send Youk + $$$ to the White Sox for Thornton, who is making $5.5mm this year and $5.5mm next year. Gets money off their books quicker.

Thing is, the one team that could really use Youk is in the division and has the match the sox need. I could see the Rays dealing Niemann or Alex Cobb for a Youkilis so they can stabilize their offense. Problem is, the sox and rays would never do that deal
