Could you dumb this down for me? Explain how options are relevant here? I've made no secret that I am relatively a new baseball fan. Lol.
If a player still has options on a player, they can send him back and forth to the minor leagues without having to pass him through waivers and risking that he is claimed. Players who have been in the majors for a while like Bard don't usually have options remaining so the team would have to put him through waivers first.

He has options' date=' but has to get by waivers. So I guess there is a handshake agreement with GMs not to claim optional waivers.[/quote']The Yankees will probably be pricks and claim him.

Who takes Bard's start on Saturday?

I can't believe that McDonald is back.

They're saying we go with a 4 man rotation for now, but they call somebody up by Sunday anyway. I like that idea!

D'Mac comes in for middle relief if needed :)

No' date=' he slipped by waivers. That is how he got sent down.[/quote']When did they place him on waivers? I thought that it took a couple of days to pass thru waivers.

Optional waivers are usually within a day. But nobody claims those as per handshake agreement.

DFA waivers are usually snatch up quickly.

People are still wondering why Bard didn't want the closer position????

He was hoping he could take the lackey route...... go in, do a lousy job as a starter, & get the big $$$$ contract. Also, like a good union boy, he was hoping to notch it back to a slightly sub par 92mph flat fastball, & save his arm for a long term career as a journeyman starter.

It's still about Lackey, & what HE has done to our starters. Sure, Beck was a willing participant in the BAD ATTITUDE CLUB, but it's Lackey who was the real driving force. "The fans are mean! Wait 'til you have a couple bad outings! They'll come after you like rabid dogs." LACKEY! :(

Those of you longing for Dice-K?????

Very short memories! He WILL BE a total bust if sent up!

Depends on the expectations. If he can replace what Bard was doing prior to Sunday, that's an adequate #5 starter. And there aren't a whole lot of other options.

Apparently.
So now the OFers are Pods, Byrd, Nava, Sweeney and DMac. What a bucket of piss! Why do we need 5 OFers? When Agon is out there, 3 of them will be on the bench. I don't get it.

Youre sending someone down for Saturday as DiceK will be up

How do you know Dice-K is getting call up? Didn't they just buy more time to get him work or is he 'ready'?

Dice K is scheduled to pitch tonight for the PawSox.

how abt Bard for Garza trade.. Theo might have a man crush on Bard and they do need a closer... i somehow have started to feel Bard is just a schmuck and him dictating what he needs.. to get paid big dollars at the end of his tenure with redsox is freaking ridiculous.

He is only scheduled to throw 3 innings. Sounds like a tune up to me. He will start Saturday and you will owe me beer.

Bard is just another position change failure. They have got to get his value back up by restoring him to what he can do well.

I'm off the hook for beer as of June 1st I thought. I'll still buy you a beer out of friendly camaraderie. BTW, how funny is it that I have tickets to Saturday's game for his first start if that is the way they are going. I hope it goes better than my last game which was Cook's first start. I left after 5 innings and went to Remy's to get a good seat to watch the Derby.

Sorry Bellhorn! I simply have had my fill of Dice-K! I can't get over him coming back from the WBC & pretending he hurt his arm in ST!!!

Major CHARACTER ISSUES! Pretend language barriers! The dissembling of info back home in Japan over the recent off seasons has been more than troubling!

Oh...... Plus! He sucks, & is BRUTAL TO WATCH!

I guess we need to play him to shop him, but NOW??? NO! We need to keep things moving in the right direction for the team! This thing could easily slip back below .500!

Hopefully, he stays away from trampolines.

I do hate watching him pitch. You are not alone in that.

Maybe they are bringing up Cook?

btw.... is he ready? I think this is the best move!!!!

NO DICE-K! Besides, Dice has zero interest in returning to the Red Sox big club! 99% chance he let's them know he's not ready!
