Sounds like Ells is out for 6-8 weeks. Do the Sox bring up Lin?

Thoughts?

Gordon Edes ‏ @GordonEdes

Ellsbury has a dislocation or partial dislocation of his shoulder, according to baseball source. Minimum of six weeks ; could be longer

6-8 weeks puts him back here anywhere from late may to mid June, so it's not horrible, especially considering we'll have Crawford back in 2-3 weeks and he can be the same player as Ellsbury, but with less power.

Lin has an outstanding arm and can be a viable defensive replacement. Nothing on the trade or FA market, so we're going to go with an in-house move.

Could have been much, much worse.

Lin got scratched from his start tonight. He's the one getting called up.
Until Crawford comes back, we will have 4 solid hitters Pedroia, Agon, Ortiz and slumping Youkilis) in the lineup and an assortment of 5 mediocre to bad offensive players to go along with them.

So will it be Darnell, Ross and Sweeney starting in the outfield this week, and then this fella Lin'll be called up but come off the bench?

Will it work this way until Crawford's back, which probably won't be until early May?

Also, anyone know what's up with Ryan Kalish? Feels like he's been injured and recovering for like 2 years. What the hell is wrong with him, again?

2012 Taco, we hardly knew ye.

And somewhere, Boras is throwing back shots and practicing his speech to convince Tacoby to go under the knife at Mass General before the end of the weekend. f***!

Just watched the game. Couple things.

1) That Ellsbury injury made me cringe. We really need him on this team.

2)Beckett was outstanding. Forget that even/oddnumbered year BS. That was a great performance.

3) Nice to see former Ray Kelly Shoppach with a big game. If only Crawford would return to his TB days

4) Kelly Shoppach's slide LOL

5) Nice to see the rally in the 8th and this time with no outs. They usually start with 2 outs. Thought Ross had a GS when he hit that ball haha.

Regardless the pitching questions...

If this turn into the worst scenario (Ells out for the entire season), are we done this season?

When the Sox did little to address their obvious off season holes, many people believed that the team still had enough talent to be competitive for a playoff spot, but acknowledged that good health would be a necessity to make a playoff run. Well, we're barely out of the starting blocks, and we've lost our closer for most of the season leaving the bullpen in disarray and inadequately stocked with effective arms. We've also lost our All Star Centerfielder for 2 months and our big money left fielder is still out with an injury. We are experiencing the one thing that many people didn't think that the team could withstand. I am sure some of those people will reconsider their prior opinions in this regard, but I don't think prospects are very bright at this point. The FO hasn't made a move to bolster the pitching since Bailey went down. I don't think they will make a move to strengthen a very thin OF corps. What fun! We'll get to watch some combination of Ross, Sweeney, DMac and Lin for weeks until Crawford returns. It doesn't exactly conjure up memories of an OF roster of Lynn, Rice, Yaz, Evans and Carbo.

I just wonder how are we going to back up Ell's numbers :( No one in the bench can. On the other hand our pitching could counterbalance this issue.

I could understand (but not agree) FO's strategy about pitching/DH/Closer/SS situation but this was simply unexpected (of course, needs to be confirmed)... unless our pitching balance this team for once and for all, or our fututure could be in big jeopardy.

I've been reading here and there that Ells' injury could be very serious. As a fan I'm very concerned; and mostly considering our already question marks. I do not want to sound pessimist, I'm just worried about this and I'm trying to figure out how we could address this issue.

If it pops back in right away, the damage isn't usually too bad. I have had that happen and it is pretty painful while it is out of the socket. When it pops back in, there isn't a tremendous amount of pain if you don't try to lift your arm. I saw a friend separate his shoulder and when we opened his jersey and saw it, it was a little sickening. He was in a lot pain and while we were looking at it, it popped back into place. It takes a long time to heal 100% and regain full strength. My shoulder has never been the same. The joint is never as tight as it was before the injury. I think he could be playing with a first or second degree separation in 2-3 weeks although his performance will be impaired. In 1975, Yaz separated his shoulder, and he didn't miss a lot of time, but it did affect his hitting for the remainder of the season, especially his power production, but like with Yaz, I'd rather have an imperfect Ellsbury in the lineup instead of his backup. Today's athletes are pampered princesses, so I expect he will be out for 2 months, maybe longer, because it is all about them today, not the team.

This is really a shame, really a shame, if this is confirmed, of course.

It's funny how life works. We had/have Kalish, Ells, Reddick, Crawford, and nobody is playing these days, I've been wishing to see Kalish, Crawford and Ells play together in our OF and that possibility is just vanishing. As I said to BtR, it is time that our pitching put their s*** together and help this offense which won't be the same if this is confirmed. We'll see.

Which shoulder did Yaz pop? Cause Elu popped his right (if he indeed popped it at all) and it looked like it popped back right away, so maybe there is a silver lining here.

Ellsbury said he felt something move. When the shoulder pops out, you know exactly what happened. You don't have to guess.

Heard on Twitter that Ellsbury shoulder is "subluxed". Im not a doctor but it was explained to me that that was our best hope. He's gonna be on the 15 day DL and could be make mid-end of May
