I don't think I have seen anything like this on the forum and I know that I have done this at other forums in the past that I have been an administrator/moderator at. I am going to post some questions just so you can share some of your favorite memories and information about being a Red Sox fan. This might be worth pinning for the future just in case any new Sox fans come along and want to post answers, it is up to the staff though.

How long have you been a fan?

How did you become a Red Sox fan?

Who is your favorite current Red Sox player?

Who is your favorite all-time Red Sox player?

Who is your least favorite Red Sox player ever?

What state/country do you live in (to see how spread out the fan base is here)?

What is your favorite memory being a Red Sox fan?

When was the first time you ever went to Fenway Park?

Who is your least favorite Yankee player of all-time?

Any other comments that you would like to add?

I will start it off.

How long have you been a fan? I have been a diehard Red Sox fan since December of 2000. I followed the Red Sox well before 2000, but I declared that I would be a lifetime Sox fan in 2000.

How did you become a Red Sox fan? I was born in 1989 in Ohio. I travelled to Florida every year during the Spring since I was three to visit my aunt and uncle that live in Cape Coral. I would always go to Red Sox Spring Training games since City of Palms Park was opened in 1993. I remember that my favorite players growing up were Mo Vaughn and Mike Greenwell. I lived in Ohio, so I went to a lot of Guardians, Tigers, and Reds games. My mom got a lot of free tickets from her work. At the time I was a big Manny Ramirez fan. Since I did not have a dedicated team, I knew that when Manny Ramirez signed with the Red Sox in December of 2000 that I would be a lifelong Red Sox fan. I loved the atmosphere of going to Red Sox Spring Training games and my favorite player at the time just signed with them. I followed the Red Sox every game. I tried to go to every game that I possibly could when they would travel on the road to Detroit or Cleveland. It was a great feeling when I became a diehard Red Sox fan. I love the game of baseball and everything about it. I knew I found the perfect team. I played baseball for 17 years, including one in college, so baseball was basically my life.

Who is your favorite current Red Sox player? Dustin Pedroia. He is a hard worker and a good leader. He also is a great role model for younger kids as well. I like his work ethic and the way he plays the game. When he retires, I probably will say that he is my favorite baseball player of all-time.

Who is your favorite all-time Red Sox player? Ted Williams. Although I never got the chance to watch Teddy Ballgame play in a live game, I always hear good stories about him and about how good of a hitter he was.

Who is your least favorite Red Sox player ever? Manny Ramirez. Quite ironic if you ask me. He is one of the reasons I am a Red Sox fan and is also a big reason why we won our two most recent World Series. The reason why I consider him my least favorite player ever is because of his attitude and hearing about how he pushed McCormick to the ground over tickets to a game. I did not like that. I respected him growing up, but when I learned about some of the bad things he has done over time, that made me strongly dislike him.

What state/country do you live in (to see how spread out the fan base is here)? I grew up in Ohio and lived there until I was 20, but I moved to Fort Myers two summers ago to attend college and to be right where I always dreamed of being. I have always wanted to live in Florida and I really wanted to live in the area where the Red Sox are for Spring Training.

What is your favorite memory being a Red Sox fan? My favorite memory being a Red Sox fan is obviously probably what a lot of people consider their favorite memory, winning the 2004 World Series. There was nothing better than being down 0-3 in the ALCS and coming back and winning the next four games to defeat the Yankees and make it to the World Series.

When was the first time you ever went to Fenway Park? I don't remember the exact date, but it was in the summer in 2001 when the Yankees came to town to play the Red Sox. My mom surprised me with the trip to Boston and to a Red Sox vs. Yankees game for my birthday (even though my birthday isn't until the fall).

Who is your least favorite Yankee player of all-time? I don't like any Yankees player, even though I do respect a lot of them. My least favorite player of all-time is definitely A-Rod.

Any other comments that you would like to add? I just want to add that I am glad I am a huge Red Sox fan. I was not born into a family of Red Sox fans probably like a lot of others, but I must say that I am a proud Red Sox fan by choice. Go Red Sox!!!

How long have you been a fan? Since 1969.

How did you become a Red Sox fan? I think it had a lot to do with being intrigued by the 1967 team and Yaz's Triple Crown. Geographical proximity and being able to pick up the games on the radio also helped I think.

Who is your favorite current Red Sox player? David Ortiz. The luster of his past heroics still hasn't worn off for me.

Who is your favorite all-time Red Sox player? Yaz. I loved to watch him play. He had that kind of mythical aura about him-he was unique.

Who is your least favorite Red Sox player ever? Carl Everett. He represented everything that was depressing about the teams of his time with us.

What state/country do you live in (to see how spread out the fan base is here)? Halifax, NS, Canada.

What is your favorite memory being a Red Sox fan? Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS. Winning in incredible fashion, right in Yankee Stadium, one year after our hearts were broken there yet again.

When was the first time you ever went to Fenway Park? September 1974. Right in the midst of one of their epic collapses!

Who is your least favorite Yankee player of all-time? Graig Nettles, for what he did to Spaceman.

Any other comments that you would like to add? I'm a different person since the Sox won it twice. The pressure is off. Now I while away countless hours just jibber-jabbering on forums like this. It's fun.

How long have you been a fan? Since ~1991

How did you become a Red Sox fan? I was born and raised in New England. My grandfather was the biggest Sox fan I've known. He got me into baseball, and he took my to my first games. His biggest wish was to see the Sox win the World Series, and sadly, he died in 2003, a year before they ended the drought. He steered me the right way, as my mother and most of my family are Yankees fans.

Who is your favorite current Red Sox player? Pedroia the Destroya. He plays with the passion and love of the game that has all but left baseball and he gives 100% every single day. That, and he has a great personality, and is very approachable.

Who is your favorite all-time Red Sox player? Pedro Martinez. The man pitched 2 of the greatest seasons of all time in 99-2000, and every single game during his time here was must see.

Who is your least favorite Red Sox player ever? John Lackey? I don't know, I've liked everyone who's put on the uniform.

What state/country do you live in (to see how spread out the fan base is here)? Born and raised in New England, and have since settled in the Phoenix area for work. Chances are that I'll be moving to L.A. this year for a new position at Lockheed Martin.

What is your favorite memory being a Red Sox fan? 2004 ALCS of course! That series brought out every single emotion I had pent up. I had all but given up after Game 3, and only listened to Game 4 because I just couldn't let go.

When was the first time you ever went to Fenway Park? I don't remember the date, but I remember Tim Naehring, John Valentin, Mo Vaughn, Mike Greenwell, Troy O'Leary, Aaron Sele, and Tim Wakefield all being there, so maybe the Summer of '95?

Who is your least favorite Yankee player of all-time? Jeter. Way overrated. He was a good SS, don't get me wrong, but if he played in Pittsburgh, he'd be Derek Who?

Any other comments that you would like to add? I really hope Carl Crawford comes around this year. He's one of my favorite players and needs this negative stigma gone. Go Sawx!

How Long?-----August 19, 2000. Final leg of a Sports Travel tour (my first trip of this kind)

How I became a Red Sox fan?---I sat in Fenway Park, was taken totally in seeing Pedro shutting out KC, 9-0, and said I have finally found my team. My first team since the Dodgers left Brooklyn after the 1957 season.

Favorite Current Player---Dustin Pedroia

Favorite All Time Red Sox---Bill Mueller

Least Favorite Red Sox----Manny Delcarmen, aka, Delgarbage, Major Disaster Coming

Favorite Memory-----------October 27, 2004 Sox win World Series on my 64th Birthday

October 28, 2007 Sox win WS while watching with other Red Sox

fans in a Red Sox Bar and Grill in Santa Monica, California.

First Time in Fenway-------August, 1997. Braves smash Red Sox. My friend and I were on

a trip to New England and Fenway was just part of the trip. It

made no impression my first time there.

Least Favorite Yankee------Where do I start? I have despised that team since 1947 when

they beat Brooklyn 4-3 in the WS. The list is too long to put on

paper.

MVP--You don't say whether your not having a Red Sox jersey is by choice or bad luck. If you want a jersey, this ought to inspire you to t ake a trip to California. I have eight of them, all given out on my Red Sox Destination trips. They no longer give them out and instead give out golf shirts with Red Sox logo. I'll hold one up for you just in case you decide to take a trip out here. Let me know.

I'll be in LA next month. Probably a week in LA and then a few days in SF.

I don't have a jersey because $200 for a nice Jim Rice jersey sounds steep. My dream jersey would be an 80's road Rice uni. It's been on my xmas list the past few years.

They had game worn jerseys at last year's Xmas at Fenway, but the sizes were way too big for me.

How long have you been a fan?

-- I was born into a Red Sox family, so technically twenty-something years. My father, and his father and his father.... And all my moms and grandmoms were pink hats

How did you become a Red Sox fan?

Besides birth, I had an experience my freshman year of college where I was stuck living in a 300 sq foot room with three gay men. I made a decision that I needed masculinity in my life, and would be a big sports fan from that point on, and I never looked back.

Who is your favorite current Red Sox player?

Ryan Lavarnway or Dice-k. Clearly, the beer and chicken stuff has not made me happy about the players on the team.

Who is your favorite all-time Red Sox player?

Jed Lowrie.

Who is your least favorite Red Sox player ever?

Bartolo Colon. If there ever was a piece of scum that you don't want your children to model their life after, it would be a cheating, four hundred pound ******* who left town because he decided he was too good to be a reliever.

What state/country do you live in (to see how spread out the fan base is here)?

30 minutes outside of the motherland -- but I work right next to it.

What is your favorite memory being a Red Sox fan?

Green Monster. Red Sox versus Yankees.

When was the first time you ever went to Fenway Park?

Cubscouts in the 90s if I remember correctly.

Who is your least favorite Yankee player of all-time?

Bartolo Colon.

Mine are all large......No. 15, 19, 20, 24, 33, 34, 38, 44. I don't know how big you are but the jerseys are official Red Sox ones.....they are the same the players wear, one of the residual benefits of going on these RSD trips. We pay for the privilege.

Let me know if you are interested and I'll let you know how to get to Arcadia if you're interested. I'll also show you my Red Sox room.....that will shake the hell out of you.

I have one Red Sox authentic jersey and six replica jerseys. I don't know why people would buy authentic, unless you have a lot of extra money to spend or if you get them for free. I would prefer to spend $75 as opposed to $200. I haven't spent more than $60 on any of my jerseys and I am content with just replicas.

How long have you been a fan? I guess it would be sometime in the late 1950s or early 1960s.

How did you become a Red Sox fan? The local team.

Who is your favorite current Red Sox player? Pedroia

Who is your favorite all-time Red Sox player? Yaz

Who is your least favorite Red Sox player ever? Probably Roger Clemens (post Red Sox)

What state/country do you live in (to see how spread out the fan base is here)? Arkansas

What is your favorite memory being a Red Sox fan? Obviously, the 2004 comeback versus the Yankees and WS win. However, Jim Lonborg's pennant clinching win versus the Twins in 1967 extremely was huge.

When was the first time you ever went to Fenway Park? Sometime in the late 1950s.

Who is your least favorite Yankee player of all-time? Billy Martin, Reggie Jackson, Thurmon Munson, and Alex Rodriguez.

63 years. I was at the 48 playoff game with Cleveland, but don't remember it. That would be my first Fenway game--I guess.

My earliest memory is the 49-50 Red Sox. I still have some Fenway programs from that era.

Dimaggio-Pesky-Williams-Stephens-Doerr. Still remember the lineup.

Pedey is my favorite current player. We are the same size and I played 2b, too. Not quite as well.

Favorite all-time player is who else? Ted Williams. My theory about why Ted was such a great hitter:

he spent his whole life seeking his mother's approval. You'll know what I mean if you read his bio.

Pedro M. would be second. Best pitcher I ever saw in his prime. Tiant was also great.

Least favorite players would be Buckner and Mike Torrez. Also Bill Lee for that dumb pitch to Perez.

I never forget.

Favorite memory has to be winning the World Series in 04. There were dead Red Sox fans popping out of graves that night.

Least favorite Yankee player: probably Nettles for wrecking Lee's pitching shoulder in a fight. Nettles should have been beaned for that.

Favorite Yankee was Mantle. Handed me an autographed picture when I met him 3 months before he died. As good as any who ever lived in his prime--the 1950s--before he hurt his knee.

I agree about Tiant. I would get goosebumps at games when the crowd would chant, "Looie, Looie, Looie!" He was absolutely loved.

I don't agree on Bill Lee, though. He was cool. He was the anti-establishment leader of the Buffalo Heads who many of us identified with.

Nettles and the cowardly Mickey Rivers were very bad Yankees.

My favorite Yankee was Elston Howard. He was a class guy who later played for the Sox.

Agreed about Lee. Take that pitch away, and I like him. He got too brash in a World Series game situation. He has a farm in Craftsbury VT these days, and hosted a camp there last summer.

Lee's Canadian. Pitched for the old Montreal Expos. In the early 70s? At the old Jarrett? Park.

I remember watching a night game there on TV, and suddenly the camera went up to the almost empty grandstand. And there sat Donald Sutherland, all by himself, empty seats around him, huddled in a big parka.

Bill Lee was traded to the Montreal Expos in 1978 for utility infielder Stan Papi, but he was not Canadian. He was from California originally.

Lee also pitched for a semi-pro team in Moncton, New Brunswick for a few years, and has co-written books with an author from here in Nova Scotia. He should be an honorary Canadian.

How long have you been a fan? Since '86.

How did you become a Red Sox fan? I grew up in DC, and I was 12 in 1986. Let me preface by saying that I was kind of an Orioles fan at that point, them being the most local team, and from getting to watch Ripken come up and play with Eddie Murray every day on TV. Dad was a Sox fan that loved Yaz and Freddy Lynn, even patterned my stance/swing after Lynn (who was an Oriole in '85). My grandfather was a Sox fan, too. At the time, getting together, all three generations, to watch sports on the weekends was a regular thing, and we never missed Sox/O's games when they were on. The '86 team grabbed me with Boggs, Hendu, Evans, Rice, Oil Can, and of course, the red hot young pitcher Roger Clemens.

Who is your favorite current Red Sox player? Pedroia

Who is your favorite all-time Red Sox player? Pedro

Who is your least favorite Red Sox player ever? Clemens, not for leaving, but for everything he's become after leaving the Sox.

What state/country do you live in (to see how spread out the fan base is here)? San Antonio, TX

What is your favorite memory being a Red Sox fan? The championships are certainly up there, but this is my favorite Sox moment, and greatest memory...

How did you become a Red Sox fan? I was raised in a Braves household, and I grew up playing baseball, I used to be a pitcher. I always like guys like John Smoltz, but when I saw Roger Clemens for the first time, I was changed forever.

Who is your favorite current Red Sox player? Most of them currently.

Who is your favorite all-time Red Sox player? Despite everything, it's still Roger Clemens. Also Tim Wakefield, and Curt Schilling, who I had the chance to see pitch in the minors in the late 80s when he was playing A-ball down here in NC.

Who is your least favorite Red Sox player ever? Don't really have one, maybe Lackey.

What state/country do you live in (to see how spread out the fan base is here) Greensboro, North Carolina.

When was the first time you ever went to Fenway Park? Unfortunately, I haven't been yet.

Who is your least favorite Yankee player of all-time? A-rod. I actually really like Jeter however, mostly because I have an autographed game ball of his from back in 1992 when he was playing A-ball down here.

What is your favorite memory being a Red Sox fan? Of course it would be the 2004 ALCS comeback, as well as the two championships. I have many great memories scattered in there over the years though.

Who is your favorite all-time Red Sox player? David Ortiz

Who is your least favorite Red Sox player ever? John Lackey

I notice there are also a few other converts on this board....I thought so!!!!!! You see, it is very easy to let the Red Sox grow on you if you are of a mind. Also there are fans who have followed the team for less time than I have so I don't feel like the last guy in line anymore. I also don't think I have to convince Red Sox 305, SCM, MVP or ORS that this is my team. Too bad some believed the tripe that a few miscreants tried passing off a few years ago, two of whom are now my friends.

Keep these things coming guys and gals. This is a fun thread.

It is very easy for the Red Sox to grow on you. I get a lot of crap from some of my friends back in Ohio who are Reds and Guardians fans. They always want to know why I am a fan of a team that isn't close to where I am from. It should not matter where you are from. You can be a loyal fan from wherever you live. My dad and mom are not huge sports fans, so I was not born into a family that don't have favorite teams. Consider yourself lucky if you were born into a family of Red Sox fans. I wish that was me. I hope to start a trend with my kids and grandkids to become Red Sox fans. There is nothing more that I hate than someone accusing another person of being a bandwagon jumper. Don't accuse until you know the whole story. I must say that over the years I have made a few of my friends jump on the Red Sox bandwagon, but after they didn't win any more World Series after 2007 they quickly changed teams. The Yankees probably have the largest amount of bandwagon fans, but the Sox are pretty close because of the recent success. Let me just end my rant by saying that Red Sox baseball is a way of life for me. Some say it isn't healthy, some say it is an obsession, to me it is a choice and a way of life.

How long have you been a fan?

That's a two stage question for me.

I was a fan in the late 80's early 90's (Boggs, Clemens, Burks, etc) but I petered out in the mid 90's because, among other things, I was a little too depressed to really want to do anything at all, much less follow a baseball team (seriously, you guys think I'm a bit crazy -- I'm 10,000x better than I was at 16yo)

When I got to college around '03, I fell in love with the team again. Gray Little broke my heart right along with everyone else's. As rusty as I was as a fan, I knew from the commentator that Pedro had already done his I'm-done celebration thingee and that he had no business still being out there. Looked for all the world like nothing had changed and nothing was ever going to. I walked away from the game after that, and honestly thought I was doing it for good.

I got wind of what they were starting to do in '04 only after about game 5 of the 2004 ALCS when the murmur of what was going on overcame even my self-imposed exile. That's literally what it took to win me back after the fiasco of the prior year. When I realized that the Sox had had a chance to make another epic failure and had actually managed to avoid doing so, I was cautiously on board again.

I heard The Slap over a crackly AM radio station in northern Maine, and its aftermath brought everything back. When I realized that came-changing calls were actually going against the Yankees in elimination games during the postseason, I made sure I was in front of a TV for the rest of the postseason. Because if one impossible thing can happen, maybe others can as well.

Ironically, it was the fiasco of 2006 that brought me on board for the regular season. I loved that disastrous season more than I ever thought possible. I guess I find it in myself more easily to love a flawed team than one that goes out there and wins and no big deal.

2007 was still the first and only Championship season I followed from Spring Training to the last pitch.

How did you become a Red Sox fan?

Dad was a Padres fan when he was a kid growing up out west, and when we moved to Maine he would listen to the Red Sox on the radio. He almost made an Expos fan of me because he liked (and always has liked) National League ball better, and because I grew up with no way to watch the Sox on TV but plenty of chances to watch the Spos. I guess I became a Sox fan because that way I could talk to the people around me on more or less equal footing about "my" team. Kinda shallow, sure, but I guess we all have to start somewhere.

I still have a soft spot in my heart for the Expos and was heartbroken when they moved to Washington.

Who is your favorite current Red Sox player?

Mmm. Well, Paps just moved on, Tek moved on, Wakefield moved on, Pedro and Schill have been gone for awhile, Papi's cool for now but he's at the point in his career where I've gotten comfortable with the idea that the team will be moving on from him soon. Beckett's an idiot, Lester's a good pitcher but kinda a vanilla personality, I liked Youks better at first base, saying Pedroia is just trite, I've always been kinda skeptical on Buchholz, a lot of the other guys are unproven.. Hmm, that's a tough one.

Ahh what the heck, you all know my answer. A mix of "the next one" and "the one who's currently getting treated worse than he deserves by the fans."

Who is your favorite all-time Red Sox player?

Roger Clemens.

DON'T JUDGE ME!

Sorry guys, I'm a product of my generation, and was still submerged in depressed indifference during Pedro's peak. It didn't end well, either with the Sox or overall, but Clemens was a stud and I'll always remember him fondly.

Who is your least favorite Red Sox player ever?

Can't think of one. I don't waste a lot of time hating, either at the time or afterward.

What state/country do you live in (to see how spread out the fan base is here)?

Maine

What is your favorite memory being a Red Sox fan?

the bloody sock.

When was the first time you ever went to Fenway Park?

never been. I want to go someday but the $$$$ has never been there for it.

Who is your least favorite Yankee player of all-time?

See the above answer about least favorite Red Sox. If pushed, probably A-Rod but I just don't like hating people.

How long have you been a fan? A few years

How did you become a Red Sox fan? I honestly don't know. I followed baseball and never really liked a team. Toyed with the Yanks because I share a birthday with him. Then stopped following it for a bit then got back into it when I started playing fantasy baseball. Guess I picked the Sox.

Who is your favorite current Red Sox player? Carl Crawford I guess.

Who is your favorite all-time Red Sox player? Manny Ramirez

Who is your least favorite Red Sox player ever? Julio Lugo

What state/country do you live in (to see how spread out the fan base is here)? New York

What is your favorite memory being a Red Sox fan? signing Carl Crawford? I'm new to hardcore baseball, was a casual fan.

When was the first time you ever went to Fenway Park? Haven't gone. Was going to but a damn hurricane ruined my trip!

Who is your least favorite Yankee player of all-time? I don't hate any Yankees.

Any other comments that you would like to add? Hi.

RSF3---That last sentence of yours defines me to a "t". You know, I knew some Red Sox fans out here in California before I came aboard in 2000. Their fervor and behavior used to make me roll my eyes, but guess what? We're the same way now, aren't we? The three people I brought over to the RedSox are now as rabid as I am. That's just the way it is.

I do understand how people like SCM, MVP, Sox Sport and Palodios might wonder about the converts; after all they have gone through some pretty nasty s*** all those years of near misses and heart breaks. Glad I wasn't around when Bucky "####" Dent hit that three run job in '78, and glad I wasn't there when Buckner kicked that ball, not to mention some of the other bad things that had happened to our team. I think is is normal for some of them to wonder if we're for real. They have no worries with me, and I don't think they do with you. We're on board until they carry us away. BTW, I have already arranged that when my time comes I will be buried in a Red Sox casket and a schedule of games put on my gravesite every year. Kind of off the wall, right?
