He had an off year in 2010' date=' but he was pretty damn good in 2009.[/quote']

He peaked in 07, the World Series year, then trailed off after that. Stopped throwing his splitter. Came back last year for the big contract.

Edit: I'll be turning backflips if Bailey puts up that kind of season.

You want to know WHY the experts pick the Sox to finish below the Rays and Yankees? Here is the ugly truth: we have done NOTHING to improve our pitching this offseason. And our pitching for the last three years finished 9th' date=' 9th, and 7th in the AL in ERA. Thats why the experts pick us to have a tough year, which we will have unless something changes.[/quote']

The whole notion of experts making preseason picks is a joke. Have you noticed that none of them ever shows us their track record of how their past predictions worked out?

Anybody here can make preseason picks that have just as much of a chance of turning out right.

How great would it be if this ends up being the World Series matchup in 2012? Just to spite everyone:lol:

It wouldn't spite me in the least Pal, not in the least. Let's be honest, though. Would you bet your house on this happening? The garage? The pool, the tomato patch in your back yard? See what I mean? Right now I think we've put ourselves against the wall and are expecting gold to come from rhinestones. That's fool's gold and the only way we can do it will be if the team plays out of his mind this season. Perhaps the pride element will be there by those who were thoroughly embarrassed and humiliated by their pratfall last season. It could happen but as I've said so often, just about everything would have to break right.

I checked the numbers, and it looks like you're right about 09. He was bad in 10, but 09 was a lot better. I recall him starting to slip a bit in 09 with his splitter, but the stats don't reflect it.

If you're going to place a bet on the upcoming season and you're picking the Sox to win more than 86-87 games, IMO you're throwing your money away. This will be another 3rd place finish---that is if they can hold off the Jays. I'm still undecided as to whether or not I believe they can.

I still don't understand this logic. I know the Jays have a better bullpen now, and their lineup is fairly solid. I still don't think they will get that close to third place.

We may be battling the Rays for second. I think the Jays will still be at least nine games behind third though.

Do people here really think the Sox are better off without Tito and Theo and with Bobby V and Ben? I mean, really believe that??? They'd be better off with a new ace if you ask me.

This is the first time I've ever really considered switching to the Braves. They have some old Boston history and the NL is going to get the DH sooner rather than later if you ask me. Plus I live here and it would actually cost me nothing to watch them! :papelbon:

Well good luck with that and thanks for being a former Red Sox fan!!:)

Here are some of my predictions,

Jacoby comes back down to earth a bit, still hits 20+ HR's

Pedroia does his usual thing

Agon puts up an MVP type season

Youk plays 125 games hits .280 with a close to .400 OBP

Crawford hits .250 and misses half the season, thus making it a better year then last year.

Aviles shocks everyone hit's .300 and plays a good SS, Iggy comes up late in the season for defensive purposes.

Sweeney+ his platoon partner TBA provide league avg. production

Salty builds off his first full season and overall has a better offensive production.

Lester puts up a CY Young type season

Beckett is good not great

Buchholz wins come back player of the year(if he is eligable :))

Bard has a great first half and average 2nd half due to having to watch his IP

One or more of the scrapheap pitchers combine to give the Sox 200 IP of 4.80 ERA ball. Sox trade for SP mid season.

Bailey has a very good season, not as good as Paps great seasons, but enought to suffice most fans but not good enough to totally quiet the nay sayers.

Red Sox BP is above league average, but not but leaps and bounds.

Sox win 96 games for the WC beat the angels in the one game playoff as CJ wilson get's thumped and Bailey strikes out Pujols for the final out.

Thank you for that incredible insight. I wish someone else would have thought of that.

I'm an optimistic person Jacko hahaha But in reality these are just fun predictions. I prefer the more positive type predictions instead of the gloom and doom Sox should just mail it in this season :D

I am actually filing a Section XII on you right now. That effectively mandates police to come and bring you to the nearest hospital for psychiatric purposes. Reason: Delusional behaviour. I'll also throw sado-masochistic and gender confusion on there too so we can add some substance

Well you didn't let me explain myself: By "stealing" the bases i meant taking them with him every time he slides into second, third and home.;)
