Of course as a native Bostonian I have my opinions. Yes, you can get decent Italian food in the North End. But the best Italian food in eastern Massachusetts is in the burbs. In fact, if you want really good Italian, go to Providence. As for lodging, there is a Holiday in on Beacon Street at, I believe, near the corner of Temple Street in Brookline. It is a 20 minute walk to Fenway Park or a 5 minute ride on the Boston College Green Line (located in front off the motel). And I have to disagree about the quality of Tex-Mex in Boston. While the El Phonix/Sennets Pub is long gone, many viable venues remain. In fact, Boston has some excellent classic Mexican restaurants. One is Sol Azteca at the corner of Park Drive and Beacon Street. Minutes from both Fenway and the Holiday Inn. And really, come to Boston to eat? Go seafood. But why go through all this when you can crash at my place and drive one of my vehicles?

One more thing, Mikes is a tourist trap and the cannoli suck. I spent three years working as an apprentice in the finest Italian bakery in Boston and have made tens of thousands of cannoli. Mikes is glop.

Do yourself a favor and ask Co-Co or Yeszir for advise.

:( I like Mike's Pastries...what's so bad about that? :dunno:

You clearly don't watch enough Phantom Gourmet. For shame!

In all honesty, it's notbad, just touristy. There are better places, but I don't see the harm in sending an 18 year old from Miami there. Could be a better spot to check out ladies as well.

Man' date=' You haven't. I understand how you get. It's part of being a Red Sox fan. I've got a bit of a temper sometimes when it comes to sports and music so I know I've been a dick sometimes. We've had some heated exchanges but at the end of the day you're still one of my favorite posters and a cool dude.[/quote']

Thanks man, I really appreciate it.

Ehh you're not bad at all. One of the better posters and handle arguments pretty well.

Yeah Mike's isn't the best (which I noted in my post) but what's the point in talking about places outside of Boston if he won't be driving a car?

RSFFL, just bring your walking shoes and wander around. You'll find more thsn enough fun things to do.

Trust me I will. I'll be everywhere since everything is so close.

My best advice would be...

- Bring an empty vile, go early to the game for batting practice...Stand by the home-plate area and ask someone who has field-access to please fill your vile up with dirt from the field. (I did this, and it is extremely awesome to have dirt from home plate at Fenway Park). You can ask your tour-guide, but mine said no - FYI anyone who works at Fenway will most likely say no, so ask someone who looks like a fan who has field access for batting practice.

- Go visit the library...Amazing building filled with awesome history, just to say you were there is worth it. Also, Good Will Hunting filmed a scene there...A+

- Boston Harbor is beautiful/gorgeous/solid - worth taking 30 mins to walk around there

- Go to the Fenway Park tour / Visit the official Boston Red Sox store on Yawkee Way

- Go to the Cheers bars - not impressive, but it's nice to say you've been there - not a drag by any means.

- Downtown has some nice shops including a pretty good size 4ish floor Nike Store

- Have fun - Take it all in - Be proud you rep the best team in organized sports, and that you are part of the best fan-family-mob ever...slap hands with some fans at the game.

- Order one of those Lemon/Ice drinks when you're at your seat during the game when the drink-man comes by - If you order peanuts, they throw them at you and then come collect the money, so don't duck and let them hit the lady behind you, catch that s***!

Word - all I can think of for now

Hope you have the time of your life - Guarantee you will go back annually

I had plans on getting dirt and taking the tour. A co worker told me that you can get a certificate for your first time. If they do that I'm going to frame that s*** and keep it for life. I know it'll be a good time. All I hear from people down here that went to Fenway is the atmosphere. I can picture it now. If Ortiz hits like a walk off GS on a full count in the 9th inning and 2 outs. I have a feeling that Fenway might erupt. I legit would yell at every Yankees fans within a 10 ft radius of me and tell them to lick the sack. I'd end up crying at how beautiful the moment was. We can all dream though haha

To each his own. I'm a trained pastry chef and have an opinion. There are many cool and worthwhile places to see in Boston. That is not one of them in MY OPINION. Happy holidays.

Joe Teshi's. That's the place to go in the North End.

This is an interesting observation. I was not aware that place still existed! I last went there in 1974 and the food was incredible.

Several days ago I checked Jpoe Tecci's web site. I understand they just closed. Sad if true. Great veal!

I was just planning my trip to the States and was going to ask a similar question. Great that there is already a thread here all about it!!

So excited, I'm going to be crossing off something on my bucket list by watching a game a Fenway Park! Actually I'm probably going to watch 2 or 3 games, just so that my only experience isn't a loss. I hope we don't get swept haha.

For 3 games vs the ' date=' hotel reservation, free shirt, jersey(but only 60 dollars),v.ip tour and pre game reception, all for $1,245. That doesn't include airfare but what a f***ing steal.[/quote']

Do I even get a teeny weency bit of credit for suggesting Red Sox Destinations to you RSFanForLife? Glad you went that route because you will have a blast and never will forget your experiences on the trip. I've taken 10 of those trips and everyone was memorable.

Now another piece of advice......As the oldest Dago on this board let me suggest the NORTH END for some great Italian food. Prices are reasonable and there is a lot of early American History in the North End----in many ways the original part of Boston. I would recommend Pagluica's on Parmenter Street. I go there now all the time when I come to Boston. Their seafood and pasta dishes are out of sight.

Let me know which series you're going to.

Yeah, Tecce's is closed due to bankrupcy. That was the 'in' Italian place years ago.

How about Durgin park? It got a facelift years ago when Fanuel Hall was rebuilt, but I remember the old gaslight restaurant where Prime Rib was a couple of bucks and the Indian pudding was great, too.

The grand daddy of the posh restaurants used to be Lochovers. Is that still around?

Yes, you do get the credit. You saved me a lot of money I'll tell you that. I really appreciate it. Now I have to try to convince someone to go with me so I don't get bored going alone lol.

I don't know that SoxSport but I don't think so. Besides, how should I know that anyway. I'm a Lakers fan. Still, that is one helluva Italian restaurant. You try it yourself if you get to the North End.

Well start working on some of your amigos and you might hit paydirt. Still, whether you get someone to go with you or not you will still have a great time and unless you are totally anti-social you will run into people who you will establish a relationship with and could come out of that trip with a couple of new friends. What series are you going to anyway?

Not sure how I missed that in my other post but I'm going to the Yankees series July 6th-July 8th. What other way to spend your first time playing your rivals? If we lose it'll suck because I can hardly handle watching them win on TV but if we win I get to give the Yankees fans s*** and tell them to lick my nuts. I immediately posted a FB status to see if I can get someone to go along. I have people that are interested so we'll see what happens. Regardless, I'm still going no matter what. I've busted my ass for years to get to Fenway. I'm not anti-social so that won't be a problem. Anyone who boos the Yankees at Fenway is family. I'm sure I'll meet some cool people.

Yeah, they really do a good job. I've yet to experience it yet obviously but they really try to make it a really good time for people that cone from out of town. If I didn't have to save up for a car I'd already have the money. I'm going to see if I can suck the money from my parents and ask them to get me either the car or pay for my trip. I'll pay for whatever they don't pay for. :D

My son and I are going to that series too. I have tickets for the Saturday and Sunday. Do you know what hotel you'll be staying in?

Boston marriot copley place

Not sure if you find it wierd or not but I'd like to meet up if you're interested. Grab something to eat and just talk. I'd like the chance to meet Clint Eastwood ;)

That's a first rate hotel. It's walking distance to Fenway. It's connected to the indoor mall in the Pru Center. It's also across the street from the Westin Copley-- frequently the visiting team stays in one of those hotels. Sure, it would be a kick to meet up with you. We can get a beer or soda at Remy's on the way to Fenway.

We haven't booked our hotel yet. The rates are still high right now. I am hoping there is a special deal at some point. We always stay at one of the Copely Sq hotels. If the rates stay too high, my son and I might crash at my daughter's teen tiny apartment. It's hard to find a good rate when the Skankees are in town. I'll guarantee that if you tried to book on your own all of the accommodations and transportation that you'll be getting with the Red Sox Destinations that it would cost you much more than you are paying. Their trips are a very good value. The hotel you will be staying in is a 4 star hotel and conference center.

i'm waiting to get my tickets for the 100 year celebration!! 4/20. i haven't seen a ticket under $200, but i don't care. i went to opening day 2 years ago against the Yanks, it was awesome! Pedro was there, Steven Tyler sang "God Bless America" and Neil Diamond actually came out to sing "Sweet Caroline"! Greatest day ever! i wonder what they have planned for the 100 year event? it's been a while since i've been on this site. i'm reading things about RedSox Destinations? do they do single game tickets, airfare, etc? not sure how they work. i can work out the airfare. i might need advice on a CHEAP hotel. (unfortunately i live in FL and the cost of living is not equal to the north east). i won't really be at teh hotel that much. and i'm probably going to have to fork over like $500 for mine and my girl's tickets. anyone have advice on a cheap hotel?

That would be great! SFF lives and works in Boston so we could meet up with him too, and Spud should be available if he can tear himself away from his lady love.
