The Off Season Thread is muddled with all sorts of stuff. I am making this thread for everyone to post what moves you would like the Sox to make-- a sort of Christmas Present for you the fan. If you don't celebrate Christmas, let's just call it a wish list. I'd like this thread to just be a record of what each poster wants without debate or argument. We can argue about it in the Off Season Thread. This Christmas Wish List doesn't have to be realistic. It can be funny, sarcastic or whatever you want it to be. If you would like Pujols to be traded straight up for Punto with the Angels eating Pujols salary, post it.

I'd like to close with saying that I hope Santa brings you everything you want, but if he does, it may not be the team I want to see.;)

I would like the Red Sox to find a good #3/4 starter for a good deal for either mediocre prospects/ or small money .

I would also like there to be a greater sense of peace and harmony between Red Sox fans at Talksox

Edit: Oh, and a World Series. I want that too.

Okay, me first. I don't think that I want a lot, and I don't think that what I want is unrealistic.

1. Package Reddick, Dubront, and a couple of other prospects for Garza or Gio Gonzalez. I'd be willing to part with Middlebrooks in the package.

2. Move Bard back to Closer after acquiring the Starter in #1 above.

3. Sign Ortiz to a 2/$24 million deal with $9 million in 2012 and $15 million for 2013. I want to back-load the contract to make some cap room for 2012. I'm not sure if this is how it works, but it is my Christmas list.

4. Sign Beltran to a 2yr/$22 million contract to play RF. We should have enough to sign him without going over the LT cap if Ortiz gets only $9 million for 2012.

5. One more good arm for the pen. No one comes to mind. This could be one of Cherry's under the radar specials.

These moves would give us a very strong competitive team:

Lineup:

1. Ellsbury

2. Pedroia

3. AGon

4. Youkilis

5. Ortiz

6. Beltran

7. Crawford

8. Salty

9. Scutaro

Rotation:

1. Beckett

2. Lester

3. Buchholz

4. Garza/Gonzalez

5. Aceves

Bullpen:

Closer: Bard

8th inn: Melancon

Jenks

Albers

Morales

Miller

Under the radar Cherry's Special

Bench:

Punto

Aviles

Kalish

Shoppach

Trade Ellsbury and others for a #1.

Sign Beltran on a short deal.

Sign 2-3 more bullpen arms.

Entertain a trade for Youk.

For a start, I want to sign Madson as our closer and Oswalt to a 2 year deal. Then we can keep either Bard or Aceves in the pen. I would prefer for Aceves to start, keep Bard as the set-up, and have Melancon as the 7th inning guy, it might not be realistic to get both, but it could be possible. Now to be unrealistic, Madson signs a 4 year/10 million deal and Oswalt signs a 2 year/5 million dollar deal. That would make my Christmas, even though those rates are unrealistic.

I want Santa to sprinkle his magic powder and end all Red Sox fans' sense of entitlement for christmas.

Oh, and i want them to sign Madson and Oswalt and have Youk enjoy a fully healthy season.

Hell, you just read my mind my friend. I post the same Christmas list in the offseason thread. If Ben is capable to put this team (reachable), he will redeem with some us

Joe Saunders

Andy Sonnanstine on a minor league deal

Madson/Beltran

Yes it is a jewish christmas but i don't need much.

Ellsbury for Lincecum too.

Posted

Sign Kuroda and Oswalt. Kuroda to $10M/YR and player option for $5M (this lower the AAV). Oswalt to 2/$18M.

Keep Bard in the pen.

Add some DEPTH by grabbing Sonnanstine. Keep Tazawa in Pawtucket to start for the first time since TJS.

Make some trades with the lots of OF in the system (Hassan, Kalish, Reddick, Lin, Jacobs, Brentz) to get back pitching, either starter or relievers.

The Red Sox have been moved out of the Yankee division to the National League with the new realignment.

As a result, they've announced they are cutting their budget and ticket prices 25%.

Note how this doesn't cost them anything--since they don't have any money to spend--as per Henry.

And Santa, contrary to folklore, does not come free.

CC Sabathia' date=' Miguel Cabrera, Josh Johnson, Troy Tulowitzki, Matt Kemp, and several other players that I AS A RED SOX FAN AM ENTITLED TO.[/quote']

Santa is going have a tough time stuffing all those guys down your chimney.Especially Sabathia.

My x-mas list? Sox invest in the bullpen with guys like Madson and trade for another really good arm and move Bard back to the pen after trading for or signing a legit #4 pitcher. Then, using a bullpen of dynamic flame throwers and essentially their current lineup they finally bring closer by committee into effective practice, forever ending the pattern of smart posters claiming that only a highly priced closer can pitch 9th innings when the team is ahead.

And Santa, if you're listening, what I really want is Felix Hernandez for a bunch of players I don't care about. Like leave Felix under my tree and quietly take Alex Hassan, Chris Hernandez and Ryan Dent.

Also, I really hope for Carl Crawford to have the best season of his career. Seems like a good guy . Maybe take it easy on him next season. That would be a huge boost for the club. Also, Clay Buchholz: help him become the healthy and dominant pitcher we hoped he would become just a year ago.

I would like Santa to give me a time machine so I could storm the conference room and keep the pen from hitting the paper on the Lackey and Crawford contracts so we wouldn't ever have to see that meatball on the mound and keep Crawford out of town. So we would actually have a realistic shot at extending Ellsbury. Either that or drug Scott Boras so the Red Sox can extend Ellsbury. Trade Youk while he still has some value and hasn't completely fallen apart.

Just letting you know, in terms of Luxury Tax purposes, contracts are rated on their average annual value, so signing Ortiz to 2/$24mm would have a $12mm effect on the cap, even if it is backloaded.

Other than that, I agree. I think Beane won't trade Gio unless he guts someones farm though. Especially after that Latos trade.

I think you'll need the time machine for that, too. :dunno:

Here is my realistic offseason wishlist -

1. Go all in for Matt Garza. Trade Lavarnway + Middlebrooks + Ranaudo + 1 mid-level prospect (Theo's Compensation). He's AL East tested and proven, and has a career 3.83 ERA at Fenway. That's very good, considering the offense that this team consistently puts together.

2. Put Daniel Bard back into the bullpen, making him the closer for 2012. Melancon as the set up guy.

3. Make Ryan Kalish our starting RF, occasionally platooning with Mike Aviles.

4. Sign Ortiz to 2/$22mm. That will help the cap room by $4mm, as he's projected to make around $15mm if I'm not mistaken.

5. Stop letting all of these other teams pick up the scrap heap in SP and build some damn depth!!!

I know we aren't supposed to comment, but as an aside the idea of giving Theo and co the Sox farm system for a #2 starter would really hurt. Is Garza that good?

Anyway, your wishlist, so not for me to question.

I think Garza is that good, and I also think having a 1-4 of Lester Garza Buchholz Beckett, and Aceves as the 5th man, could be extremely beneficial.

That rotation along with the Sox lineup would bring a WS championship.

My Christmas wish would be for an Edwin Jackson signing.

I'd settle for Joe Saunders, but I would prefer Edwin Jackson.

If Santa is generous I would ask for Andrew Miller to figure out how to throw strikes, Dice-K to recover a little quicker than half the season, Bobby Valentine to shut his mouth, and Josh Beckett to start working with Daniel Bard to teach him a curve ball.
