Why hasen't he officially retired yet ?

It dosen't seem like he will pitch again so why not retire?

I Hope he does like Nomar and signs a final contract with Boston and retires as a Red Sox.

I was bored today and was watching past games from the late 90's and early 2000's witch brought me

to post this thread .

I miss Pedro :(

No way he's coming back.... but he'd still be better than Wakefield.

You would sign the guy without knowing his conditioning?

Who knows what he's up to these days.

It was INSANE. People forget how good he was. The Globe would run a "Pedro graphic" that showed the number of hitters to reach second base and third base. It rarely got above 2.

Used to have a big ass poster on my wall of Pedro, I didn't get to see him play that much since i was so young, but he had inhuman stuff from what I've seen from mostly replays and stats.

When I first heard he wouldn't mind joining the Red Sox, I was really hoping he would, but it was pretty obvious it wasn't going to happen. And now that I look back at it, he probably would of been good to have in the rotation. Who would you of rather started, 40 year old Pedro, or Kyle Weiland?

I really took that for granted, since he was at his peak when I was getting into baseball. I would be disappointed when he didn't get 10 strikeouts and allowed more than 1 run. I'm planning on going to his HOF induction. I was assuming it would be 2015, but is eligibility 5 years after he "retires" or just 5 years after his last game?

Also, rsr, where were you watching old games? I've been trying to find some but MLB is extremely stingy.

5 yrs after his last game. Rickey was still technically active when he got inducted. Pedro said he is done prior to the postseason this yr. He hasnt officially retired, but he is done. He was, without question, the best starting pitcher I have seen in my lifetime over a 5-6 yr span. He didnt have the body to have significant longevity, but his stuff was just stupid and he was very smart.

I used to watch old games and stuff on ESPN Classic until the idiots at my cable company pulled the channel.

I remember that it was a EVENT whenever Pedro took the mound for a couple of years there....just incredible, the place would just buzz.

Clemens was a beast, but Pedro was an artist, and more fun to watch. I don't know if we'll ever see the likes of him again.

Pedro was by far my favorite player ever. Like Gringo said, he was an absolute artist out there. 1999 and 2000 were probably the 2 best back-to-back years from anyone, in history. That 0.73 WHIP in 2000 is a record that I think may never be broken. I had the chance to go to Fenway a few times while he was pitching, and that place rocked like it had never rocked before.

Do you have the Pedro no hitter in relief when Troy Oleary hit a grand slam against Cleveland?

That was an amazing game.

Have you seen the one-hitter he threw at Yankee Stadium when he struck out like 17 or 18? I think that might have been his most dominant game

Just found out that you can get Pedro's 17 K performance VS the yankee's on Itunes for 1.99.

same with the 1999 ALCS game 5 where he threw 6 no hit innings.

I allready bought it .

I never get tired of watching old games of him pitching .

his 1999 and 2000 season were the best back to back seasons you'll ever see a pitcher pitch .

Ha! The king has been proven wrong once again. Get off my throne you filthy peasant.

That's extremely cheap rsr. I'm thinking of buying it. I felt like I missed out a lot on Pedro.

Ooops, my recollection after 11 years was off by 9 days. I am surprised that I posted that it was a Saturday, because i do clearly remember that it was a Sunday night ESPN nationally televised game.

I do remember that the last out of the game was a grounder to second and the second baseman double or triple clutched and just nipped the runner at first base. I'm not sure, but I think the second baseman was Jeff Frye. I don't remember who hit the ball.

The King is never wrong about the important stuff. You are not worthy. You should be honored to be in my presence.:D

Tino Martinez

CAP CANA, Dominican Republic — Pedro Martinez usually attends the David Ortiz Charity Golf Classic. But he was back in Massachusetts tonight, helping raise money for charity there with an autograph session in Bedford.

Martinez made a little news, telling reporters that he will be officially retiring in a few weeks. Given that he last pitched in Game 6 of the 2009 World Series, Martinez was pretty much retired anyway.

Pedro, 40, was 219-100 with a 2.93 ERA and 3,154 strikeouts over 18 seasons. He won three Cy Youngs and has a World Series ring. That speech at Cooperstown should be fun to listen to

Hope he does like Garciaparra and signs a one day contract to retire as a Red Sox
