I'm sad to hear Tito is going... in spite of his shortcomings, he helped to deliver two WS titles to a team that hadn't won any in 86 years.

But if he does end up leaving as all signs seem to indicate, I'm not sure who I'd want to succeed him in the position.

I'd probably be okay with either of these two, but I suspect there will be more candidates that come up here soon...

Sandy Alomar Jr - 1B coach Cleveland

Dave Martinez - Bench coach Tampa Bay

They can't just throw s*** at a wall and hope it sticks. They need to get someone really established. This is probably the 2nd or 3rd most coveted managerial position in the sport right now. There should be some serious interviews...

Tito's done some great things during his eight years here, but given what's taken place in the last month, I think it's time. I kind of expected this, just didn't know how soon it would happen.

Thanks for the list MNSoxChief.

I don't know who is available or what the Sox are looking for. It's really hard to know what they want.

If they go for more of a "ra! ra!" kind of guy they might be sacrificing some of the brains/analytical stuff that Tito and Theo bring to the table. If they go analytical then they might miss the clubhouse leadership that they need. Will be only a handful of people who have both, and I suspect most of them have jobs currently.

I suppose Bobby Valentine will be a candidate... God I'd hate that though... can't even watch him on Sunday Night Baseball for more than two minutes.

I was just thinking about Bobby Valentine as I finished writing my last post. No thanks.

Mostly it got me thinking how weird it will be to see a new MGR on this club. I can pretty well anticipate what Tito is going to do, when he is going to come out and argue, etc., but a new guy will be a learning curve unto himself.

Yeah I agree...

One guy that I just thought about is Bud Black, the manager in San Diego. He seems pretty solid... gets the most out of lineup of scrubs, has extensive experience underneath Scoscia in Anaheim, and we'd likely be able to pry him away without sending any real talent out there with Jed Hoyer at the helm.

Are there any managers who currently command the respect that a typical Japanes manager commands, while also using sabermetric principals? I love the fundamentals of the Japanese game, but not the approach.

Also, think Joe Torre would be interested?

I always liked Torre and I would love to see him come back to stick it to the Yankees. I know, I know, most people didn't like how he managed, but wouldn't Henry be MUCH easier for him to work with than Stein...

Why would he be relatively cheap because Hoyer is at the helm? Seems unlikely to me, if he's any good. I like the idea though.

Often, teams will give managers an opportunity to interview with another team. If a manager doesn't want to be with his current team, it does't do the franchise a whole lot of good to hold onto him. In that sense, you could be right.

I think Bobby Valentine would provide a personality for the clubhouse to rally around. I would think he would stress fundamentals. If Terrys personality is a 1 and Ozzy Gs is a 10..... Bobby V. To me would be a 5, just what we need.

Oh man... Joe Torre as manager would be epic. Talk about a huge f*** you to the Yankees organization though. Think he's made peace with them now... heard him talk very favorably about going back to the oldtimers game and donning the Yanks uni again.

Meh, I guess I was thinking that Theo and Hoyer are such good buddies they'd find a way to work it out. Could we maybe convince them to take Lackey (with us paying most of his salary) and a low level prospect for him? That'd be a win for us...

Its sad Tito is going, but at this point....he clearly lost control of those pussy coward bitches in the locker room. Those guys did whatever the hell they wanted to do and he is not imposing enough to stop that thing from spiraling downward.

Throw in the fact that he has some serious health issues, and it pisses me off even more that that team walked all over him.

Tito should walk out the door with both middle fingers in the air and personally tell John Lackey to go f*** himself for insulting Tito with those "faces" he made every time he made a pitching change after Lackey gave up 6 ER in 3 innings.

Sorry Old Yeller, it was your time.....but thank you for everything you have done Tito, you will forever be a legend around here. Thank you for 2004 and 2007 as well as winning baseball since the day you took over.

For all we know, Tito might want out.......who the f*** would want to coach the most unlikable group of players since the 2001 group with Lansing, Hillenbrand, Everett, Offerman, Bichette, Arrojo, Cone and Nomo.

If by "personality" you mean "annoyingness" or "speaking before thinking" you're probably right. However, Fracona's personality has really played well in Boston. He manages to really deflect things from his players... except this year it was too much to handle.

My thoughts exactly.

All the more reason to think about releasing Ortiz and trading Youkilis and anyone else who is hard to get along with or who makes it harder for guys like Pedroia, Ellsbury, or Lester to do their jobs well

I agree about Youkilis.

I think his career is over pretty soon. He is a beer league softball player. His body is breaking down and he is not a 3B. He is no spring chicken either, he will be 33 next year. I think 1 of those 2 are here next year....and they are DH'ing.....which pisses me off because we could have kept VMART or BELTRE last year to be doing the same thing.

They're both a lot cheaper than VMART or Beltre. Don't get too pissed.

For me, the goal will be to open some slots for younger players to work their way into while reducing costs. The hunger that these young players bring is pretty impressive. Youk still has it, actually, so obviously I wouldn't hate having him around.

Bobby Valentine?????? Now I want to go on a bender.

Torre is done with this s***. He won't have any interest.

I actually think Tito is pushing this to happen this way and more power to him. I am repeating myself but they changed this team around him and he now has a bunch of spoiled petulant children to manage.

The look on his face in the press conference was "f*** you and horse you rode in on John Henry, I am so outta' here".

It was also "see how you like the next guy that comes in, you ungrateful, know-it-all fans who think you could do better. Good f***ing luck with this bunch."... all while not throwing a single player under the bus.

Tito may have his faults, but he was f***ing classy.

Devil's Advocate: what about the above makes him a good potential manager? Is being scary any more likely to get you a call or get the umps to reverse anything? Is he going to go Don Zimmer on Ivan Nova?

You dont think Rice knows the game? The man is a hall of famer and not many know the city, the players and the organization better than Rice. Hes been with the team his whole life, and has been breaking down their games for the last few years.

I am not saying that Rice will be intimidating or respected by umpires or other players. He will be by his club, that dude has a BAD temperament, just ask the Boston media during his playing days. People will not f*** with Rice and his temperament will be a breath of fresh air.

in addtion to my last post (didnt want to edit it, as people have already read it, and possibly quoted it)

Brad Mills is not the answer. When I say BLOW IT UP, thats what I mean. No familiar faces or voices. Brad Mills in my opinion is much of the same. They need an outside voice. Rice is a familiar, but still outside voice.
