Marlins To Sign Mark Buehrle

By Tim Dierkes [December 7 at 3:51pm CST]

The Marlins' heavy offseason spending continued today, as they agreed to sign lefty Mark Buehrle to a four-year, $58MM deal, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The durable lefty will head to the National League for the first time in his career to bolster Miami's rotation. Buehrle, who spent his entire career with the White Sox after being drafted in the 38th round in 1998, follows former Sox manager Ozzie Guillen to Miami.

Pujols appears headed back to the Cardinals and the two sides are believed to be only a few million dollars apart on a ten-year deal

LOL Pujols....

I remember his interview after the WS , Its NOT about the money , I play the game cause I love it and money has nothing to do where I'm going to sign .

******** , or else this deal would of been done 1 year ago.

It's about respect, not money. Idiot! ;)

Why isn't there a limit to the number of free agents you can sign in one season?

The answer of course is the MF players union.

The Marlin management is taking one big gamble--considering Miami is in a state of depression right now.

Property values are down to nothing.

What was that meeting in the Commisioners office all about with Luria et al yesterday?

I wonder if Selig is concerned.

He's going to stay in StL for the rest of his career and be paid ridiculously to do it. You cannot fault him. That's the market and he's getting market value. I wouldnt blame him one bit.

I'm bassicaly stating that he's a hypocrite. you missed the point .

He's not really a hypocrite. If he was, then he'd be leaving St Louis. He ended up getting the most money and staying in one spot. It wasnt all about the money, but it surely was something about the money

Back to the offseason, I am surprised the sox didnt get in on Sergio Santos. Flame thrower, cost controlled, and cost the Jays one solid but not overwhelming prospect. He was the epitome of a smart move for the sox and Ben said he didnt even know he was being shopped. How to have your feelers out there chum!

NO

I'm willing to bet AA came to KW and said What will it take to get Santos? and KW said Molina and AA said done. KW doesn't shop offers around, look at the Swisher deal a lot of teams were pissed cause they had no idea Swisher was on the block.

Tigers might be adding Dotel to their bullpen. Valvede, Perry, Beniot, Coke, Daniel Schelerth or whatever his name is and now Dotel. Thats pretty good.

For those of you who think you can get Gio for Youk, Anderson, Reddick and Wilson think again...

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News hears from multiple sources that the Rangers inquired on Gonzalez, but moved on after the A's asked for Martin Perez, Mike Olt, and Leury Garcia.

-MLBTR

Thats would be Bogarts, Middlebrooks, Kalish/Reddick plus someone like Henry Ramos or Frank Montas(lower spect with some ceiling to grow) for Gio.

Years and a no-trade clause also play a huge factor too. That's why whomever gets him is going to be screwed. I don't want him when he is nearing age 40.

Dotel will probably sign with the Tigers. One less reliever is available. The A's are saying that they probably will not trade Gio at the Winter Meetings. Benji was wasting his time and missing out on Santos.

The Sox are said to be in active pursuit of Eric Gunderson and Heathcliff Slocumb. Just kidding. I hope.

Are you and others now convinced that Cherington is a dud, a bozo and an incompetent boob? The guy can't can't walk and burp at the same time. This was a bad pick for us as GM because the guy doesn't even know which way to turn. The better part of three days gone in the Winter Meetings and all we have is Andrew Miller to show for it? That should speak volumes about this guy's idiocy. BTW, Miller's contract was a ML one; he is out of options so he is on the team or the Sox pay him to get rid of him.

You know, ever since Prune Face Henry married that pastry tart his mind has been elsewhere. This is becoming more of a Three Stooges farce than a front office in action.:thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown

The sox are looking at Jon Niese....BWAHAHAHAHA. Please, f***ing please, deal the farm for this kid. His overall numbers arent horrible...

11-11 4.40ERA 157IP 178H 77ER 44BB 138K

But look a little deeper into those numbers. We all know Citi field is a place where hitters go to die. Well, the opposite is true for pitchers. Niese's ERA away from Citi was 5.33. He'd be awesome in Fenway, lol.

Unfortunately, we are going to need 8 or 9 warm bodies that impersonate SP this year. Niese could fit right in. After all, we signed Miller.

 No s***... too bad they'll be trading them all away in 3 seasons or less once the fans in Miami remember how many other things there are to do and see down there other than sit in an overpriced seat, eating overpriced hot dogs, and drinking overpriced beer.

That is if the Feds at the SEC don't crash the party first.

Although the bill has not come in yet for the 2011 season the more recent calculations for LT purposes have the Sox over the threshold for 2011 by about $4M. So they were over the 2010 LT cap by about $1.5M and appear to be over the 2011 cap by $4.2M. So they are surely screwed as I doubt JH is going to allow them go go over three years running and bet taxes at the 40% rate.

I seriously think the Sox should consider moving Youk at this point. Now that they are getting Ortiz like him or not, there is no means to rest Youk who can no longer make it through the grind of the 162. While Youk is past his ability to draw big value he can be used to fill some of the obvious holes on this team. Once again though we are confronted by the lunacy of keeping Ortiz because Youk was our only real power bat from the right side other than maybe Peddey.

Carlos Beltran Market Appears Thin

By Luke Adams [December 7, 2011 at 7:54pm CST]

Already today, we've heard that the Giants won't re-sign Carlos Beltran and that the Red Sox don't seem enthused about the outfielder. So it's no surprise that Jon Heyman of MLB Network says (via Twitter) the market for Beltran "appears very thin."

According to Heyman, teams are concerned about Beltran's medical records. The 34-year-old appeared in 142 games in 2011, but was limited to approximately that amount in 2009 and 2010 combined, due to knee problems.

If Beltran's market is thin, this should be the kind of value signing that Benny was talking about.

Francisco Rodriguez Likely To Accept Arbitration

By Luke Adams [December 7, 2011 at 9:29pm CST]

Francisco Rodriguez will likely accept the Brewers' arbitration offer, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network (via Twitter). Marcos Grunfield was first to report that the reliever is expected to accept (Twitter link).

Milwaukee's decision to offer arbitration to Rodriguez was somewhat surprising, considering the right-hander earned $11.5MM last year the team could only offer him a setup role. Given the dwindling number of teams who appear to be interested in spending big bucks on a closer, the market for K-Rod may have been limited.

If he accepts arbitration, the pool of available relievers will shrink even further.

I agree. I think trading Youk is the only move that is likely to net a major league starter in return. I suspect the Red Sox will be talking to the Braves. Plus I think from a clubhouse perspective Youk may have some baggage that may make moving him desireable.

Of course we probably all realize that since the LT cap limit does not go up for 2013, we are likely screwed for that year as well as 2012 unless we are willing to trade salary to bring in salary.

Pirates Acquire Yamaico Navarro

By Luke Adams [December 7 at 9:42pm CST]

The Pirates have acquired Yamaico Navarro from the Royals in exchange for Brooks Pounders and Diego Goris. tweets Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com. Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star first broke news that Navarro was heading to Pittsburgh (Twitter link).

I don't think the FO views Youks as a clubhouse problem. Forget what the media says.

They are just trying to earn a living. Youks is a vital part of the team. The only real RHd power they have.

Youks will be their DH next year. Middlebrook needs a year in AAA before taking over at 3B.

I think there is ample evidence that Youk and some of his team mates have issues. The reporters who are speaking on this are highly respected and ones who have been quite reliable in the past. Regardless, I don't see anyway the Sox can obtain a major League ready starter without trading a major league position player starter. The only one likely to bring anything in return is Youklis.
