Yanks are now 7 up in the standings. The Sox have lost so much ground the last 10 days it's hard to see them making the playoffs if they continue losing. The Rays are playing better ball right now, and they could catch them. Or even the Angels, who are slightly behind the Rays. If one of these teams gets hot, forget it.

Except the Sox went 17-9 in September 2003 and then lost in the ALCS....

sorry, i meant 04---the year they won 8 in a row against the yankees and cardinals.

They went 21-11 in September/early October to finish the regular season.

Point is, it'll be tough to find a comparable finish that led to a good result. Earlier in the month I was comforting myself with the 2006 Cardinals and Tigers, but they didn't finish nearly as bad as the Sox are. 5-15 in a month is unfathomably bad.

The Braves are collapsing very bad as well, and SNL is 2 GB as well.

Something is for sure, the WC race in both AL and NL will finish as a horse race, nose with nose.

The Braves are 4-6 in their last 10 games. To paraphrase Denis Leary, I'd give my left testicle to be 4-6 in our last 10 games. We are 2-13 in our last 15.

Nevertheless and despite our terrible performance the last month, the RS has more chances than the Braves to make the POs .

I mean, the braves today are 1.5 GB and SNL is playing .800. Tomorrow SNL could be jus 1 GB if they beat the Mets at home (likely).

Their schedule? 3 vs against WSH and 3 at PHI. STL? 1 vs Mets, 3 vs Cubs and 3 at HOU.

IMO, the Braves are done. SNL will take the WC.

According to John Tomase of the Boston Herald, the Red Sox have tried for the "better part of a week" to acquire Mets' left-hander Chris Capuano to start Sunday against the Yankees.

Capuano? Great idea' date=' even if that means he won't be able to start in the playoffs. Get it done.[/quote']It couldn't hurt. He has been very effective at time for the Mets this season.
