So whats the deal with game threads and double headers? Do I just make one game thread for the day? A thread per game?

I made 2, when those were double header.

The Yankees are back tied for first place with the Red Sox as the Sox start a 3 game series against Tampa while the Yankees are playing KC.

The Royals are a dangerous team. The Red Sox had some struggles against them. The loss of Greinke was hard, but it may actually help the team somewhat. From now on, this team is not on my "I should be afraid list". Now, the only ones left on the "easy" list are the Mets, Astros, and the Padres.

The Sox are in much better shape for this series since Wakefield went long on Sunday, and gave the bullpen two full days of rest. Three games in 27 hours could have potentially really messed up this team otherwise.

Ugh... their three best vs. Lester and the back end. Gonna need the offense to step up in a big way this series.

We got savaged by the rainout in New York, or else we would be facing Niemman and Davis today, and Shields could have beaten the Yankees, he was going up against Burnett. What freaking dumb luck for the Yankees.

Game 2 is going to be very interesting. Bedard got torched by the Rays in his first start back from the DL, but that almost certainly was due to it being his first start back with no rehab appearances.

I really feel like in both of Bedard's starts, he really got screwed. Against CLE, he had 2 bitch hits that went a total of 140 feet that scored two runs, and then in MIN, he was squeezed as bad or worse than I've ever seen in my life. And even through those two starts, he really threw pretty well. He's kept us in each game. We'll see how he does tonight, but I expect him to be good.

The Yankees are getting much better pitching from their starters right now than the Red Sox. That's the difference. Guys like Garcia, Colon and Nova are pitching much better than expected--outpitching Lackey, Wakefield and the #5 flavor of choice--currently Bedard. The killer has been Buchholz out for so long. That has tipped the balance.

The Yankees are currently 7th in MLB team era rankings (3.54), while the Red Sox are 17th (3.91) .

That's almost a half a run per game allowed difference.

In scoring runs, after 119 games, the Red Sox have scored 14 runs more than the Yankees.

That's about .1 runs per game advantage--not enough to make up for the pitching difference.

Yet the Red Sox have been in first place since July 7th.

i personally like the line up. shields just scares me. that guy can be lights out! especially against us! we need to get to him early and often! can't have this guy throwing his 9th CG of the year, or whatever his stats are!

Before anyone starts whining about the line up. Remember' date=' we have a double header today!! ;)[/quote']

Not much to whine about. But the night lineup may be a different story.

I'll bring Coco-in-attendance mojo to make up for it.

Most of it is reactionary to be fair. Regardless, I'm sure Varitek, Scutaro, Lowrie, and McDonald will be playing in place of Salty, Aviles, Youk, and Reddick next game.
