Missed this game as well, but saw some highlights. Nice to see McDonald and Varitek being useful. It's also really nice to be able to trust the back end of the bullpen, not to mention the middle of Aceves, Wheeler and Albers (not a great night for Albers, but a great year).

I thought Bedard actually did an admirable job of damage control. The real issue is that when the umpire refuses to give ANY corner to a pitcher like Bedard, who can hardly blow it past guys, he's basically screwed.

There was one really amazing plate appearance where the batter walked. NESN showed a picture of where Bedard pitches went, and he didn't throw a single bad pitch.

Last time out he only threw 70 pitches. Why push him past 90 when he's one of the most injury prone pitchers in the majors?
