Is there a rule on this forum against being passionate about the Red Sox? And publicly expressing that we are frustrated when they lose? Is everyone here required to watch the game like a robot and restrict their comments to either pompom waving or quoting statistics?

Boy...there sure are a lot of people here who like to complain about the complainers.

In my book, its all good. They do well, they get congratulated and their accomplishments should be duly noted. They play like crap, like the last 8 games, and why not lay into them a bit?

And BTW: why is the game thread closed so soon after the end of the game when there are ongoing discussions on it?

Dude we lost the East we should just fold as a franchise we will never win the East again okay.

If we manage to get into a 6-7 game hole, then what you say about winning the ALE is true for this year. The Yankmees do have a solid team this year and barring injury, we won't catch them if we fall that far behind.

So we're struggling to score runs off of the best team to ever pitch. I'm not FREAKING OUT about it or anything.

What is happening to Red Sox fans. It's not the pessimism of yore anymore, its some kind of new ultra f*** THIS TEAM pessimism and I hate it.

i hope this game-thread doesn't get personal again like past 2... some people here shouldn't buy wars/fights that don't even have and slow down the speed or gonna crash!!!

BPEF we need your mojo back!!!

Should we repeat the line up?, i would say yeap!!

Exceptional post. Losing 6 of 7 sucks but it isn't the end of the world, we're banged up and no one is going to put up a bunch of runs against Philly. We'll be there at the end of the year, this is a great team, probably one of the best Red Sox teams that's been fielded in a few years and they will get out of this funk, that's for certain.

I will say this - I've had a couple things come up over the past couple days that has kind of put the Red Sox on the backburner, and it's been a good break. I'm sure there are a lot of people who are like me in that, you live, breath, eat, and drink Red Sox, and when they lose it's incredibly frustrating, especially when they lose to teams like the Pirates and Padres. Regardless, taking a step back and putting this bad streak into perspective helps out.

We went 19-10 (.655) in May.

We've gone 15-9 (.625) in June. If we win today, we will go 16-9 (.640). If we lose, we go 15-10, still, .600 baseball.

No need to worry. In a couple days, we'll have Crawford back. We'll have Buchholz back (eventually). We'll be back in the AL parks where you can use the DH. Ellsbury will get out of this little funk he's in.

We're fine. Besides, the Yankees need a 9 game lead on us just to win the division because they can't beat us, and we've got 9 left head to head.

By the way - After going 1-5 so far on this road trip, I'm going to be paying extra close attention to the all star game this year.

When is the NL going to evolve with the times and adopt the DH?? The good thing about last night was that Lackey outhit any DH we could have put in there (Drew, Cam, Mac, Sutton, Tek).

Also - The Red Sox are 37-21 (.638) in games where Ellsbury gets a hit. They're 8-13 (.381) in games in which Ellsbury goes 0-fer. That guy is our spark plug. We gotta get him going .

Darnell McDonald hitting, wait for it....SECOND today. Bahahahaha. Thanks Francona.

RED SOX (45-34)

Ellsbury CF

McDonald RF

Gonzalez 1B

Pedroia 2B

Varitek C

Reddick LF

Sutton 3B

Scutaro SS

Jon Lester LHP (9-4, 3.66)

Just wow. Nice lineup there, Tito. Very nice. Why not hit Scut 2 and Mac 8 if you want Pedey 4? Or go Ells - Reddick - Pedey - Gonzo?

Is Francona kidding with this lineup? What a joke. I will not even follow this game on gamecast today. Lester will need to shut them out. After the first run by Philly, the game is over.

Man, I'm getting bored of complaining about this. Where the heck is Drew?

Pink eye? I hope no one defends him any more-- about him being under rated, RBIs and Runs don't matter, etc. etc.

Screw them. BTW, if you play every day on a team like the Red Sox and you are a good hitter, you will accumulate some RBI and Runs. You just will, unless you are a s**k bag like JD who gets high OBP and little else.

Last night, that team wouldn't have hit anybody. They are in a slump--as a team.

In the late innings, in a tight game, their leadoff batter made no attempt to get on base.

The team just has too much hubris to play for one run. A direct reflection on the manager.

Oh my. Lester must be ecstatic about that lineup.

This sounds more like irrational hatred for someone who doesn't play enough, and doesn't fit the whole "dirt dog" code here in Boston. He pretty much lived up to his contract, his OPS+ was very high for most of the deal (including two years where he was well-above the value of his contract), when he did play, he was more than valuable enough to counteract his absences. He's not very good anymore, he might be out of gas, but you can't seriously say he was anything less than good during his contract.

You make it seem like he missed 50 games a year, and hit .220 with 5 homers and 0 production. JD Drew was an efficient player who guy on base and hit the ball well. This is not like Gardner where you can look at his offensive production and see flaws in his WAR, Drew's value comes from his offense with his UZR padding it only slightly.

I'd take Drew, even if you do think his production is discredited because he's out with pinkeye, or hurt vag, or whatever. It doesn't matter, his offensive production was good during most of his contract, you're way off saying that this crap discredits everyone who agrees with that.

I don't care about dirt dogs, never did, but I do like guys who go to the post and produce every day. JD has never been that kind of player. I don't think there is a lot of value to players who average about 130 games per season. That's just me. I don't see his value as a $14 million player. I never did.

Edit: He didn't stink for the Sox. He is a very talented player, but $14 million players should play every day. He has never been an every day player. The fact that he sits out for minor ailments and against tough lefty pitchers have artificially inflated his OPS and OBP. If he played every day, those number would have come down. Those stats are fine, but comparing OPS and OBP of a player who plays every day to those stats for a player who does not play every day is not apples to apples.

Clearly Darnell has some sort of blackmail on Francona and he's hanging it over Tito's head. How Francona continues to start Darnell, I don't have a clue. I would rather see Cam out there than Darnell, easily. And the fact that Francona watches him hit .100 and the moves him UP in the order?!? Come on Tito. Get a freaking clue.
