Didn't Josh Bell send out an email to all of the MLB teams telling them not to draft him because he was committed to Texas?

 

I guess a $5mm signing bonus can change your mind. Kind of wish we would have taken a chance with him.

Sox signed 1st round pick Matt Barnes. Barnes is a great young pitcher from UConn.

We could be comparing this draft to the 2005 draft in a few years. Any team that gets Brnes and Swihart in the first round would be very pleased. Add Bradley jr and Owings and we should all be very pleased. That doesn't even mention the rest of the draft.

 

Also I agree about Barnes. He looked impressive in the one start i saw in the CWS. Nice addition to ranaudo among the top Sox pitching prospects.

Both the Pirates and Nationals spent over $17 million on the draft this year. I don't think small market teams can complain about being outspent in the draft anymore.

Nope. Kinda exposes the difference between a real small market and a team that won't spend, doesn't it?

I'm pretty sure I saw on SP that God came to him in a dream and told him not to sign. then the Sox upped their offer and he signed haha. Jesus FTW:lol:

So outside of rounds 1 through 4 did the Sox pick up any talent? I know you got Betts who looks like a nice get but didn't follow the rest after him.

Kukuk is probably the most talent player we got after the 4th round (assuming you meant 4th round and not 4th pick). He's an 18 year old lefty whose fastball hits 95 a a plus slider and a changeup that needs some more work. He's still pretty raw but that's to be expected of an 18 year old.
