Can't believe Rendon fell to WAS at 6th. Five teams could really be kicking themselves in a few years. I understand his shoulder is a concern, but he is easily the best college bat in the draft.

The Mariners really dropped the ball by passing on him. For a team that needs offense as badly as they do, Hultzen didn't make much sense, especially with the signability issue with him. They took Morrow over Lincecum in 2006 and Jeff Clement over a lot of great players in 2005. I think this pick will come back to haunt them as well.

With 2 picks left before we're up, we should be able to get a high profile player. I just hope we go for the homerun instead of going with a safe pick hoping that one will continue to drop to us later. Hopefully we take one of Meyer/Barnes/Guerreri/Gray. I'd prefer Sonny Gray the most of the 4.

I just hope that the Sox don't surprise me, like they usually do. Vitek surprised me, Brentz surprised me, Fuentes surprised me, even Kelly surprised me a bit. I think they HAVE to take one of those pitchers at 19 though.

Red Sox take Uconn RHP Matt Barnes. It's a good pick, but I really wanted Sonny Gray. That said I'm a huge Red Sox fan and a huge Uconn fan so this works out for me. Plus we should still get a really good player at 26 too.

Wow. The Blue Jays take Tyler Beede who I thought was a sure pick for the Sox. I think it's quite a bit of a reach for the Blue Jays, but it seems like a pick to stick it to Boston. That said, while the Sox can't get Beede, it means that another good player will be available when the Sox pick at 26. Sources were projecting Beede to the Sox in the sandwich rounds, so if the Sox get a great player at 26 then I'll take it.

The Sox take Blake Swihart. I figure that we'd get him, but I thought that we'd take him in the sandwich round. Oh well, I'm happy with a Barnes/Swihart combo, who were ranked at #10 and #19 going into the draft and taken at #19 and #26. Still some room for good picks in the sandwich round too.

I'm so f***ing disappointed that Sonny Gray went 18. Just don't go RIGHT BEFORE the Sox pick. If you're going to go before the Sox, go in the top 10 so I don't get my hopes up. What a f***ing let down.

And Swihart at 26?? Take a gamble and freaking take Josh Bell. Swihart wasn't even the best catcher on the board. You can grab him in the 30s.

I disagree on your Swihart analysis, but I'm right with you on Gray. I'm about as pissed off about Gray going right before us at 18 as I am pissed about Guerreri going to the Rays 2 picks before us at 24.

Swihart looked like the best offensive catcher by far, with a bat that's good enough to be a 3B or OF and still be a worthwhile pick. I'm also not sure if he would be available at 36 or 40, since there's much less catcher competition than there is OF competition for Bell. Not to mention that Swihart's signability issues aren't as strong as Bell's are, so I would see Swihart going off the board before Bell if the Sox didn't take Swihart at 26.

True, and I guess the catcher market is going to develop in the late 20's and early 30's, so he may not have been around at 36.

I can see the Jays taking Josh Bell in 5 picks, Rogers Group doesn't shy away from spending money in the draft.

Speaking of high power OF, Brandon Jacobs is one of the most under-discussed outfielders in our farm system I think. He and Brentz are killing it in the farm right now, although Brentz just got hurt and is out til middle of the month.

I don't know why people don't project Sonny Gray as a SP. Putting him in the bullpen is a horrible idea. He's going to be elite.

His small frame worries some scouts.

If Josh Bell falls to us at 36 and we don't take him' date=' I'm going to flip[/quote']

I'd say that if he's available at #40, then we HAVE to take him. No questions asked. I'd look at one of those high school pitchers at 36, and then take Bell if he's available at 40.

True, and sure he doesn't necessarily get the downward plane, but the guy has a 2.01 ERA in the SEC, obviously that's nothing compared to the MLB or even the minors, but hell there have been a lot of small-framed pitchers who have torn up the MLB. Pedro, Lincecum were both about Gray's size.
