They need to really pick things up if they want to match last year's pace.

After the game, the NESN guys mentioned something about Lackey's wife. I didn't catch what they said. Is she sick, divorcing him, etc.? Is this going to be the excuse for him sucking?

Idk but if it is he needs to suck it up. He is not this bad and he can't let this s*** get to him. Honestly though I don't think it is. He's got nothing from what I've seen. The guy is putting the ball on a tee for hitters to swat.

Weren't the Sox wracked with injuries at this time last year? IIRC Ellsbury and Cameron were out' date=' and who else....[/quote']

No, it was later into the season.

His wife has cancer. She's possibly dying from it. You can't really "suck it up" when it comes to that.

I don't want to make an excuse for him sucking, but I know if I was going through that baseball would be the last thing on my mind.

Can you DL a player for family medical reasons? Lackey's head is clearly not in the game, nor should it be with all of this going on. Either way, if I were him I would want to spend as much time as I possibly could with my wife, so maybe a 15 or 30 day DL stint would be in both his and the teams best interest.

Didn't Colon do that to the Sox for a little while? If not, the Sox can just Phantom DL him. When a player is underperforming to that degree, its very easy to blame it on an injury.

The other day Oswalt left the team for personal reasons. He found out on the day he was starting that his family had been affected by the storms in the southwest. So he pitched 4 terrible innings then pulled himself and left the team for a couple of days. I guess Lackeys wife having cancer would take more then a couple of days to deal with. But maybe if he left for a week or two it could help?

Players have taken leave for various personal reasons' date=' though I'm not sure what the protocol is. Lackey would be one of the last people to admit to needing such a thing anyway.[/quote']

Didn't Greinke and Votto go on the DL for anxiety/depression issues?

haha yeah. Colon wanted to go to the DR for "personal" reasons and just said he wasn't coming back to the Sox.

Originally, it was family issues. But when they told him he wouldn't be a starter in the playoffs, he decided to take the season off, and devote his life to his one true passion:

Food.
