According to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News, Francisco Rodriguez is willing to waive his 2012 vesting option if it makes a trade easier to complete.

The Mets are expected to attempt to move K-Rod later this summer, but he will be due $17.5 million next season if he finishes 55 games in 2011 and that could deter potential suitors. Unless, like Martino's source claims, Rodriguez is willing to waive that option. The acquiring team would then have to be willing to discuss a long-term deal with the 27-year-old right-hander.

He's only 27?

Why the hell would anyone want to ink that guy long-term?

I think that article wrongs, I looked on ESPN and it has him listed as 29.

Posey got destroyed last night in a collision at the plate. Broken leg and torn ligaments. That's a huge blow to that team. I wonder if they sign Bengie now :dunno:

That's a huge blow. Maybe now that Salty is on a HR tear (homnering in 4 of his last 6 games) we can trade him to SF for a bullpen arm and we can sign Bengie Molina.

Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports that the Nationals are still interested in trading for the Rays' B.J. Upton.

We heard back in April that Upton was being targeted by the Nats, and with their search for a center fielder seemingly now kicked into high gear, Upton might be at the top of their wish list. It would be hard to see the Rays dealing him while they're still very much in the AL East race, but if they fall out of contention by the deadline, we could certainly see a match. Upton, who is arbitration-eligible for two more seasons, is batting .228/.324/.389 with seven homers and 12 steals this season.

Royals purchased the contract of 3B Mike Moustakas from Triple-A Omaha.

Out of nowhere comes massive news for fantasy owners. Moustakas, 22, is one of the top all-around prospects in the sport and was batting .287/.347/.498 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI in 55 games this season at the Triple-A level. In a year where it's been nearly impossible to find consistent production at third base, "Moose" should immediately become a fantasy star.

Upton and Shields will both be traded before 2012 and I think Upton will be dealt this season. The Rays are long on outfielders and his contract will be about 20% of their 2012 payroll. You can justify that for a stud pitcher but not for Upton. I don't blame any team with extra cash for betting on Upton though as he's capable, at times, of being a true 5-tool player. The Rays tend not to lose on trade deals so I'm sure they're just waiting for the right offer. The Nats don't appear to especially stingy these days so I'm sure a deal will happen.

Pujols to the DL' date=' that blows for the Cards.[/quote']

Short term, yes. Long term, no. Pujols started poorly, take out 5 weeks for an injury, and the time it'll take for him to get back to Pujol form, and voila, the Cards may actually be able to afford him in 2012. Without Wainwright they probably weren't looking at a deep playoff run anyway.

1 year/$15mm contract, anyone? Would not surprise me in the least for him to take a 1 year deal and bump his value.

I have a hard time seeing any team giving him a ten year contract at 32 years old-- he has more to gain by taking a long term contract now. Another bad season could hurt him significantly, and considering that he's the best player on the planet, he'll still get monster offers in 2011. However, those monster offers will be closer to what the Cardinals can afford rather than A-rod numbers.

If Pujols comes back this season and hits like Pujols, he will get a huge contract. If he is off his game, he will still get a sizeable multi-year contract.

MLB.com's Jordan Bastian suspects that third base prospect Lonnie Chisenhall will be promoted shortly.

The Guardians designated veteran Adam Everett for assignment on Monday afternoon, clearing a spot on the 25-man and 40-man rosters. Chisenhall, ranked the 25th-best prospect in the game this winter by Baseball America, could be on his way to fill the vacancy. He's hit .265/.352/.427 with seven homers and 44 RBI in 65 games this season for Triple-A Columbus.

Carlos Zambrano cleaned out his locker following Friday's loss and told teammates that he is thinking about retirement.

Here we go. Big Z was likely acting in frustration after allowing five homers and being ejected from Friday's game, but the last thing the Cubs need is another drawn out saga with this guy. In the end, we have a hard time believing he'll actually walk away from the $18 million he is set to make next season

God damn, I wish the Yankees traded for him.

Now it turns out that he spoke a lottle strongly in the heat of the moment (shockingly...) but that the Cubs are thinking about buying him out next year.

This would be a perfect time for a big market to step in and relieve them of the burden of that contract, and see if winning was the magic tonic Z needed to turn it around.

Isn't that right, Yankee fans?
