Concerned? I thought his track record of 11 good starts at the beginning of the season erased his last five years of bad play and made him an ace who is incomparable to similar pitchers who have struggled the last five years.

And Garcia puts up a stinker as well. Not starting out on the right foot. Rumors per George King are that the Yanks have been scouting Ubaldo Jimenez pretty hard of late. I smell another farm gutting deal in the works. Don't like it from here

A lot of teams have been looking at Ubaldo. I'm surprised Colorado is even considering it. Even if they're out of it, he's the kind of guy you could build around. Stats say he's been a bit unlucky this year.

He had 11 solid starts and finally put up one stinker and you were ready to call for him to fall apart. I said that his 11 starts before that were proof that he was better than that and you need to give him another start before you say he's spiralling out of control. Well, his next start was worse than the last. And he is saying that he's worried about the hammy when on the mound, even if it isnt hurting him. Now I am worried about him.

In terms of Garcia, this may be just one bad start or the start of something bad. He's gotten by on smoke and mirrors thus far and has beaten some good offenses, but he was awful yesterday. Regardless, another bad start from Colon or another 2 from Garcia probably calls for Nova to come back up and a SP to be acquired.

He has been unlucky, but his velo was down early in the yr. The SRs I've read recently sound like he is close to being back to his ace form, and if he is, then he's worth acquiring. But I worry about a guy whose mechanics are suspect and whose control is marginal in the AL East. Then again, he is coming from one of the worst pitcher's parks in America and he's thriving, so that might benefit him

I only remember two' date=' and neither seemed outrageous ... but I have no recollection of what he did with Florida.[/quote']

I remember him protesting multiples games which he had no chance of winning. Now he's making underhanded comments about how Toronto may or may not be stealing pitches illegally, he really doesn't know.

I only remember him protesting one game in which his team was losing ... and a 6-3 deficit is hardly insurmountable. As for his comments about stealing signs, I agree, unless he has some sort of evidence, there's no reason to say that.

I meant that he had no chance of having any of the rulings overturned that caused him to play under protest. He says he doesn't have any actual evidence, just rumors. Then he goes to the press and tells them he thinks the Jays are stealing signs. I just think he's making excuses for his starters.

Ah, well I'm not sure I agree with the idea that he had no chance of winning. In Florida even the umpires were confused ... admitting so after the game and saying that they would file their own incident report. Against Boston, it was essentially a technicality, but Farrell made the pitching change before he informed the umpires of Beckett's injury ... which is not how that is normally done, and the case could certainly be made that Delcarmen only should have been granted the normal amount of warm up pitches.

As for the Jays stealing signs, we're in complete agreement.

If you think they are stealing signs' date=' then it is up to you to prevent that by making your signs harder to steal.[/quote']That's what the Sox did, but Girardi, on the other hand, is a punk.

Hughes has had a good go of it today. Baby steps' date=' get him outta there![/quote']

Fastball still wasn't very good. Decent velocity, but awful location. On the plus side, the adjustments that Hughes made to his curve seem to be working, at least to some extent. He gets a very weak lineup next time out (A's), so hopefully he builds on this.

Looks like Hughes pitched well today but his velocity still hasn't improved much.

He was 90-93. While not where he was last yr, that's a marked improvement over the beginning of the yr
