Cleveland is a hole. They cannot play ball with the big boys and have proven they cannot make the right personnel decisions to keep their team competitive. It boggles the mind that they'd prefer to sign an all out CFer and a one trick pony DH over locking uP two aces long term in Lee and Sabathia. They were handed a golden goose with their drafting and te stupidity of Omar Minaya (Colon trade) but squandered it. They are a LONG way of from contending and will likely be dealing Carmona over the next 12 months.

Their payroll was 61 million in 2010. The possibility that they could afford Sabathia/ Lee is ridiculous, and they didn't exactly have great luck with Lee-- it looked like they were selling high on him at the time.

The city is a trash bin for losers and muppets. The Guardians lack something, impact players. Choo is a great player but he can't carry the team. It's so sad to see, they sold the naming rights to resign CC. They're getting 15 million a year for it to be called Progressive Field and no CC, no Lee, No VMart, just shoving dildos up their fans butts.

And to think, for a seven-year stretch, from 1995 through 2001, the Guardians were what other teams wanted to be. They were a home-grown champion. Six times, they advanced to the post-season. They surpassed the 3 million attendance mark six times. In 1995, they won their first AL pennant in 41 years.

I'm pretty sure that was the Yankees...

Dude.... as I said they sold the naming rights to their stadium so they could sign him and four months later traded him away. They get about 27 million in revenue sharing IIRC as well. As well as $14.6 million for whoring their food out.

They could have resigned him during his arb yrs for a discount on a few FA yrs

Dude... if they signed Sabathia+Lee' date=' those two players would be taking 80% of their payroll right now.[/quote']

I'm not saying both

Right! They came one game from beating the Red Sox in 2007 yet you say they can't play with the big boys. I suggest you look at the overall history of the Red Sox. Same argument could be made about them before Big $$$$ took over the sport. (?) I further suggest you re-read the article and look at their attendance. They had a then-record of 455 consecutive sell outs from June 6, 1995 to June 4, 2001 in a much larger park than Fenway. Also, 3 of those years were sold out before opening day. They built those teams from within with shrewd long-term contracts.

Yes, currently they are financially strapped but I think you're comments are way off base.

It's not really anything that unusual. Many midmarkets assemble a core and run for awhile. sometimes a long while, before the wheels fall off and they have to start over. It's just that Cleveland is at the "start over" point now. Sometimes even the big markets get there eventually.

Is this serious?

Not the team that plays a huge big-money model no other team can safely emulate? Shocking.

The current torchbearer for the ideal model franchise is Tampa Bay. Might be handed off to KC or Texas soon, and from there, who knows. The point is that any team can build from the draft and try to hold it together for a few years. NOT every team can build from high end FA's and buying out someone else's good fortune.

Guardians were top 5 in spending during that time... Sure the Yankees had bigger payrolls during those years ranging from 15 to 20 million over them, but come on the Yankees owned those years. It was the Yankees and everyone else.

Leave it to Yankee fans to turn an innocuous comment into a silly pissing match. You guys never fail to show your colors.

Wouldn't have to turn it into a pissing match if sox fans didn't lap it up.

I hope you know im joking too, or at least I hope none of you drink urine.

What happened? We stole their land' date=' marginalized their people, and now they live on reservations and laugh as they watch us gamble the deeds to our homes away. It's the circle of life.[/quote']

Plus, they moved to Oklahoma.
