That wasn't my point. My point was that whenever I see "A Gonzalez" I think of "Alex Gonzalez" rather than "Adrian Gonzalez". In addition' date=' I never said that it was unreasonable to refer to Adrian Gonzalez as "A Gonzalez", my point was that I'm used to seeing him referred to as "Gonzo" "A-gon" or "Adrian Gonzalez" and therefore, whenever I see the thread I keep thinking of "Alex Gonzalez" rather than "Adrian Gonzalez"[/quote']

Thats understandable, its kinda like how when people call Aaron Rodgers "A Rod", I always think of Alex Rodriguez at first.

Just to reiterate' date=' the Blue Jays GM is dumber than a box of hammers. And when was Jose's last juice test?[/quote']

Really? Because he did get rid of Vernon Wells' contract, and actually got something in return. Admittedly, he flipped Napoli for peanuts...but let me reiterate: He got rid of Vernon Wells' contract. Right now, the only feat I could see that would be more impressive would be if Cashman got rid of A-Rod (doesn't even need to get anything back, just needs to get rid of him and not eat any of that salary).

Signing Bautista to that deal after ONE year of more than 16 HRs is stupid.

It's risky. But if Bautista came out this season and hit 30+HR, he was looking at a "Werth" type(or close to it) deal upon hitting Free Agency. The deal will be a absolute steal or an albatross.

$13 mil a year isn't exactly an insane contract. No one expects him to hit 50 HRs again, and he's not getting paid like the Jays expect him to. There are signs that his power (at least, some of it) is sustainable - reports of getting a mechanical flaw fixed right before he started hitting for power about a year-and-a-half ago. It's a calculated gamble, but one that AA has to take in order to compete in the AL East. If it works out, it helps the Jays; if he hadn't signed Bautista and Bautista cranked 30 HRs, the Jays wouldn't really have any chance of building a contender; and if it doesn't work out, well the Jays probably wouldn't be a contender without an effective Bautista.

Also, Youkilis never eclipsed 16 HRs before his breakout (powerwise) 2008, and he was rewarded with a contract after that year. Obviously, it's not the same situation as Bautista (less money, fewer homeruns, better defense) but it's not impossible that Bautista just found his power stroke later in his career.

Can Gonzalez? Definitely, but I really think Pujols is gonna have a monster year this year, especially with all the contract year and lead the league in homers.

agon/gonzo

2009- 40 homers (only 12 at home)

2010- 31 homers (only 11 at home)

would be fair to say in last 2 years if he hit the same at home as he did away he'd be in the frame

this year i would expect him to hit more at home than he hits on the road

and the extra post season games as well this year

16/1 still available for those who fancy it:D

Gone in again at 16/1 after last night's blast to left field

Read a blog on bleacher report today that had a graphic of where his balls landed from his at bats at petco

They then removed petco from the gaphic and replaced it with fenway dimensions and reasoned he'd have hit 51 long balls last year (not enough to lead majors last year but could this year)

Facing better pitching this year? Maybe but fact he's in better line up would balance that out

Another helpful pointer is moving from NLW (3 of the 5 grounds in bottom 10 in the majors for long balls) and moving to ALE (fenway, yankee stadium, camden yards and rogers all in top 10, tropicana rated 14, for long balls)- so should hit more on the road too

I could care less' date=' hope he can lead the Redsox into the WS and win it.[/quote']

Then why comment on the thread?

He made a bet on it, so obviously the OP does care.

Cheers mate!

Oh, and on the original topic, it all depends on how long it takes him to fully regain his timing after the surgery. 40+ (like he hit in 2009) probably nets him the HR title.

You don't know how that shoulder is going to affect his power. And the delay in spring training.

It looks like he's coming around, hitting that HR to left off that left hander the other night.

He should be in the 35-40 HR range, and .300 BA. He'll hit .350 in Fenway.

Not counting Gonzalez out' date=' but Jose Bautista looks like he's going to hit 50 HR's again.[/quote']

your man baustista is going well on 11 Homers, still think gonzo can catch him

gonzo seemed to lack power in 1st month as he was hitting well but only got 1 homer

i'm hoping he;s adjusted to AM Lge pitchers/over the shoulder injury

I bet he'll be up there, along with up there in doubles, but I'm betting way more on Miguel Cabrera or Jose Bautista.

It's still a possibility though, especially the way he's been hitting it the last few days.

I think so as fenway will suit him, he knocked in plenty last year despite playing in SD

Had a bet on him to do so at 16/1 (think that's +1600 in US odds) if you can gamble online stan james still have the 16/1

I think that he could lead Doubles, and probably RBIs, Rs, i don't know.
