I'm willing to talk about trades. I can take on a lot of salary if you need to dump some. Let me know.

Ditto.

I'm interested in a middle of the order bat. I know how vague and general that is' date=' but if anyone is willing to deal someone that fits that description (and is interested in pieces that I have), let me know.[/quote']

Andre Ethier?

Andre Ethier?

Ethier doesn't make all that much sense for me. I can't play him in the outfielder, and Swisher has posted just as good, if not better numbers the past two years.

OKAY GUYS, LISTEN UP.

Currently, we're not allowed to eat a player's salary or even part of his salary in a trade. But Ital said we can put it to a vote and change that rule if there is enough support.

I am all for changing this rule. Who else is with me?

I'm against salary eating too' date=' kinda defeats the purpose of having a salary cap to begin with.[/quote']

Not really, because in theory, the loss of talent is compensating for the increased salary flexibility.

What Y228 said. Eating salary is part and parcel of trades in real life. If it didn't exist, a lot of trades wouldn't go down.

But if I traded Price to you for Sabathia, and you ate some of Sabathia's price, then I'd be getting a $23million for less than $23million, which means that I'd have more than $110million "worth" of talent and still be paying less than $110million.

Plus, god forbid someone get a player on a reduced salary and then flip them in another deal with reduced salary or draft picks. I'm having enough trouble accounting for what trades are taking place.

I mean we've allowed trading during the draft, and when pushed we allowed the trading of draft picks. I don't really see any further room for compromise.

What about after the draft? Can trades be made that will exceed the salary cap?

As long as people let you know the exact details of their deals, it shouldn't be a problem. They can keep track of the specifics in the Clubhouse thread so it's not all on you.

If you're asking whether or not people can trade after the draft, then yes. But if you're asking whether or not people can make trades that put them over the salary cap, then no. All teams would have to be under the salary cap before the power rankings and voting begin. Teams that are over cap would have to trade with someone to get under the cap.

That's a fair point, but I think that's a legitimate part of the game. If a team can get more value than their cap through shrewd trades, I think they've earned it.

But, regardless, it's not that big of a deal to me, and I don't see this rule change based on Ital's and Dipre's unwavering stance.

I hate the "slippery slope" argument because it's generally weak, but if we did that, then why wouldn't we also allow 2 for 1 trades like they do in the majors? I think that there are certain elements of realism that aren't necessarily made for a particutlar redraft. Who knows, we've come a long way in this redraft than we did in the other ones, so that could be an idea that we implement for future redrafts.

I also think that it isn't necessarily fair to the other trades that occurred if we NOW implement a rule saying that we can eat salary. For all we know some of the past trades would have done so if they could.

Anyway, I'm still looking for help offensively, via the addition of a middle of the order bat. If anyone is looking to acquire pitching help for offense, let me know.

I don't think allowing salary transfer in deals would be a justification for uneven deals, simply because that's what happens in MLB. There's a very clear reason that uneven trades aren't allowed - because someone can't be allowed to draft more than 25 players in a 25 round draft.

On the other hand, I agree with the second point. It's important to remain consistent, and implementing new rules over the course of the draft disrupts the all important continuity of things.

Right now it looks like it's 3 vs. 3 with Y228' date=' A700 and Keeper being for, with myself, Divinity, and Dipre being against.[/quote']I understand the problems it would cause during the draft process. You should have the final say, since you would have to cope with the change.

Yup, I second this. While I clearly side with Keeper, as evidenced by my rhetoric, I'm OK with either decision.
