you could have a person who isnt in the draft pick a number from 1-50 and who ever is closest gets first pick and so forth

I spoke with Dipre and he said we'll do the voting at the end of the year, so don't worry about it Keeper. He also wanted to do monthly power rankings to make sure we all stayed interested and committed to this thing, which I'm ok with.

In any event, he planned on starting this draft at New Years, but if you guys would like to get it started earlier, that's fine by me. Let me know.

And more people are welcome to join by the way.

Ah, much better. Monthly power rankings is a good idea. I would be up for starting the draft whenever.

In addition to being able to trade players to free up cap room (after the draft is completed), I believe that we should be able to trade draft spots.

What I mean by this is that when Dipre does the random draft order, and say I get the 1st pick and Dipre ends up somewhere in the middle, if we both agree to switch, that we should be able to change spots in the draft order, which will go into effect for every round. So Dipre would get the first pick one round and the last pick the next round, whereas I would be in the middle both times.

This is my opinion, so it's not put into stone, I just thought it would be a good idea. Anyway I'll create the draft thread (and clubhouse thread) on Sunday and Dipre will figure out the order at that point and the draft will begin on Monday morning. I could use assistance creating the chart on my thread page, but I should have no problem updating it.

Oh, and anyone who drafts Brian Scalabrine will automatically win. ;)

I know the Scalabrine thing is a joke, but that made me think about different athletes playing a different sport. And I honestly think that if LeBron James played football that he would be a top 10 receiver in the league hands down, and there are many other cases of athletes in basketball and other sports who might dominate in the NFL

LeBron is much taller than most receivers. Probably would be better suited to be a tight end. I know Ron Artest wants to give the NFL a go. I don't see that working out. I wouldn't say there are "many other cases of athletes" who could dominate in the NFL. In fact, I would say there are very few.

I understand what we're doing by using guys in the bullpen in their real life roles, and I like that. My question is what about bench players like backup catchers and 4th outfielders?

Say everyone has picked a catcher and someone like Miguel Montero (not saying he would be, just for the sake of argument) is still on the board. Could we pick him to be a backup catcher? Same goes for 4th outfielders. Can we pick a starter to be a bench player?

Also, are we having DH's, and if so, do these DH's necessarily have to be DH's in real life?

You guys can build the benches however you want. If someone picked a catcher early (Joe Mauer for example) they can use their next pick on Brian Mccann if they wanted. I wouldn't say that it'd be wise, but you can do it. You guys can build a bench however you want (the positions don't have to be a certain way) and you can put players in whatever positions you want.

For example, I can use my bench to use a backup catcher, and 3 OF's, while you might use a backup catcher, an infielder, outfielder, and the best player available. The only thing I would like to see is everyone have the same amount of pitchers and hitters (ie 12 pitchers and 13 batters)

From there, you'd probably have 5 starters and 7 spots in the bullpen, but you can build the bullpen anyway you want, lefties, closers, set up men, whatever. Just keep in mind that you'll end up picking a closer out of the group.

The DH's don't have to be DH in real life. Going back to the first example, you can have Mauer and Mccann on your team, and you can use either as your starting DH or your backup catcher.

In fact, I ENCOURAGE you to build the best team you can. You can have all starters on your team and use them in bench roles.

I'm ready to start this when you guys are, and i've even got the random generator going for the current teams, and if any others join, their draft numbers will be added on a first come, first serve basis, if that's okay with everyone else.

All i'm waiting for is confirmation from the current signees and we can get the ball rolling on this thing.

Also, great idea by Ital on setting up a parameter on the amount of pitchers and hitters (in the basis of roster construction).

Ok guys, I'm going to make a list of all of the people that (I think) are playing. If your name isn't on the list, you're more than welcome to participate in the redraft (we're starting Monday morning) and if you're on the list and no longer want to participate or won't be available for a while to make your picks, let us know. Here's where we're at thus far.

Myself

Dipre

Y228

Ytrb

I believe that puts us at 13 teams. I know that RSFFL was in this thread a lot but didn't say that he for sure wanted to play. You're good at making your picks in a timely fashion and we'd love to have you. I'd prefer to have an even amount of teams.

What is a redraft? It sounds interesting but I don't know what it is' date=' but I might be interested in joining.[/quote']

When the draft starts, players would have 8 hours to make a pick (though it shouldn't take NEARLY as long) and it'll snake back and forth. People can trade players in case they end up over cap, they would be building a conventional team (25 man roster) and if one doesn't make their draft pick in time, the next person can make their selection.

It's a great way to test your drafting abilities, and people often learn more about the game (NFL and NBA especially) from doing this. People will vote on the teams and they will be power ranked, and then broken off into matchups to determine who has the best team in the end.

For reference, Ytrb won the last baseball redraft, WhiskeyBreath won the last NBA redraft, and Y228 won the last NFL redraft.

I'm sure that I'm missing some details, but anyone else can chime in and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

People would be able to build teams in any way they want. Granted, you'd need 12 pitchers and 13 batters, but you can use your bench in any way you see fit, and you can draft any type of pitchers you think would best create a team. Just keep in mind that we're using 2010 salary numbers for the 2011 rosters, so make sure that you're under the salary cap.

I'd love to do this since baseball is my best sport and would keep me interested during the offseason here on talksox but everytime i get in one of these fantasy things I always end up getting in fights and don't think it's worth getting banned for. That's why I put that message in my signature to remibd myself not to join these things. I'm sure you guys would have fun without me.

How do you determine which team is better with the matchups? Does this redraft get converted into a fantasy league? Or do people vote based upon who has the best collection of talent? (i.e. I'm wondering if the team that players play on don't matter, and it's solely based on the perceived talent of the player)

And what is the cap/2010 salary numbers? Say, if I drafted Bobby Jenks, would we be using his 2010 salary then?

I respect that, although I highly doubt you'd get banned for anything you've done to this point. You've been well behaved. There are only a few people that have gotten too into this, (I'll admit that at one point or another I've been one of them) and I think you're fine.

You're obviously free to do what you wish, but I'd love to have you here. You make your picks on time and you actually vote. That's my opinion at least.

You'd be using 2010 base salaries. So ignore AAV, signing bonuses, incentives etc. We'll be checking all of the salary figures to make sure that teams are under cap.

Different people use different requirements for voting, which I'll admit has led to some friction, but this redraft is special because it's for the upcoming season, so we can see what the live stats are and use that directly in the voting. Some people use stats like WAR, others use OPS+, UZR/150, Pfx/Fxp (I can't remember that acronym) and others just look at talent.

You can choose how you vote, but there are some guidelines, it's who you think would win the matchup between the two teams at hand, attached with a detailed explanation as to why you think that particular team would win.

Posted
I'll think about. I know for a fact I won't be in SFOC leagues anymore but this one looks balanced and I get along with mostly everyone in this redraft.

Yeah this is different, I haven't seen SFOC in a redraft, so you don't have to worry about him bullying you. I can't blame you for avoiding a fantasy league with him, I'd do it too.

First off, we'd be delighted to have you. (And by we, i mean specifically me, since i don't represent anyone else's opinions, but you get my drift).

Anyways, teams will be evaluated using statistical analysis and evaluating overall roster construction (if you have a 2B playing SS for instance), and seeds will be granted, afterward, we will enter a head-to-head tournament with matchups, which will be determined by seed order, and more in-depth analysis of team-to-team matchup will be made, with the winner being decided by process of elimination.

We will begin drafting Monday probably, and after a trade period will be granted, with Power Rankings being created on a monthly basis to ultimately decide the seeds and then finally entering the matchups after the season is done.

Hope you have fun!
