Fenway Faithfull:

According to a tweet from SI.com’s Jon Heyman, the Red Sox have joined the list of suitors for free agent starter Cliff Lee. The 31-year-old went 12-9 with a 3.18 ERA in Seattle and Texas this season.

While it would be nice there are much more pressing needs.

Wouldn't it be nice to see the Yankees spend 60 mill on Jeter/Rivera/Lee combined.

That wouldn't give me any joy. Cliff Lee in the Red Sox rotation would make me happy. A Yankee rotatio with Lee and Sabathia for the next 4 seasons is not going to float my boat regardless of how much they spend.

He speaks the truth.

Believe it or not' date=' the Yankees do have a spending limit, even if its monstrous. Better they spend their money in one place than in several.[/quote']Cliff Lee gives them a dominant 1-2 punch even if they have to fill their lineup with KMart Blue Light specials. There is nothing to be happy about if Cliff lee signs with the Yankees unless a Yankee with a pilot's license flies Lee to NY.

They're signing Cliff Lee. It's happening. Move on.

Lester/Buch are just as good, and years younger.

Accepting it and moving on is one thing. Being happy about it is another thing. People on death row eventually accept their fate, but I doubt any of them will be happy if the prison power goes out and the electric bill goes through the roof as a result of them getting fried.

All I said was it would be nice to see the Yanks overpay for talent. I never said I'd be overjoyed by the particular talent they get.

I'd rather they overpay for javy Vazquez. The Yankees overpaying for Cliff Lee brings me no joy, none, zero, zip, nada.

If Cliff Lee has an ounce of respect he would turn down whatever the Yankees have to offer after what happened to his wife.

Nothing "really" happened to her. That story is overblown.

The Rangers have the inside track on Lee--if they will match the Yankees in price.

I think if it comes to within a 3-5 million dollar difference, Lee stays in Texas.

In order to get Lee in my opinion, the Yanks are going to need to shell out about 28 mill a season.

Pipe dream. Texas' financial situation is weak. They aren't able to stretch like NYY can stretch looking for winning players.

28 a yr? That's stupid. I think the Rangers are in a lot worse financial straits than they let on. A lot of their capital and future revenue (in terms of their TV network) went into the sale. I doubt they come forth and offer 1/3 to 1/4 their entire team salary to one player

I think they are much better off if they go and trade for Zack Grienke.

Grienke(13.5 AAV, 15-18M AAV for extension?) - prospects > 32 year old Lee at 20-25MAAV for 5-7 years IMO.

The Rangers are world series contenders. The Yankees are world series contenders. If the Yankees get Lee, the Rangers are not World Series contenders with Greinke. With that offense, and their young pitching, they need to atleast give it a shot, considering they won their first playoff series WITH Lee. They can find the money somwhere... maybe George Bush will give them a loan?

What do you mean by this? Are you saying that the Rangers aren't WS contenders if they add Greinke and the Yankees get Lee?

Dammit Palo, I just gave you credit for using logic in the other thread and then I read this gem . How would the Rangers not be contenders if ultimately lose Lee to the Yankees and because of that trade for Zack Grienke?

I think one could argue Grienke could be as good or better then Lee over the course of Lee's next contract. Lee, while still in his prime is "over the hill" so to speak. Not that he's bad or washed up, but he's on his way out f his prime. Grienke is entering it.
